I want to study but my ADHD makes it so hard. I hate reading shit I don't care about. The most productive I've ever been was when I had somebody kicking my ass to do stuff. But I don't have any friends or study partners to do that. What can I do? I could go on my college's reddit and find people, but I'm scared. Not of talking but potentially attracting retards (and the unknown in general). It's insane how many retards attend college. I need actual smart people that motivate me to work hard.
>>34601546Do you know anyone in your class? They'd be the best study partners
>>34601546Are you being medicated?
>>34601546Google for "body doubling".
>>34601561No, nobody really talks in my classes. It's a commuter school + professors are really bad at creating a culture where students talk to each other. I did have some dudes try to take initiative to talk to me but they always turn out to be bums that fall off the class. My fears are not unfounded.>>34601562Nope. Have shitty insurance and only have a part-time job so probably can't afford it anyways.
>>34601565>body doublingI've considered maybe streaming on Twitch or youtube as a possible way to hold myself accountable. maybe i can just sit there and pretend someone is watching me
>>34601546Bro tell me about it. I'm just here to procrastinateI can take stimulants, I can watch motivational content, I can occasionally force myself to go through something painful. But when it comes to doing boring mental work it seems that the only thing that will ever reliably motivate me is FEAR of failure. And even that isn't reliable.
>>34601546Don't you have medicin for your ADHD for reading and stuff.
>>34601546>ADHDcaused by parasites and toxins
>>34602099its genetic. my dad has it too.
>>34602394>its geneticthat is a lie they tell people
>>34602658only retards that dont have this condition say that. people dont say autism or aspergers is fake when they can look at anyone that has it and clearly tell theyre different. but unlike those two, ADHD doesnt prevent you from socializing so it looks invisible to everybody except to other people that have it. the part of your brain responsible for willpower is literally 1/3rd smaller than a regular person's.
>>34601546use addy for that?also can I ask are there any subjects you actually enjoyed and focussed in school?
>>34603059if you cant source addy on campus just try some pot. productivity strains to exist
>>34602732>only retards that dont have this condition say that. people dont say autism or aspergers is fake when they can look at anyone that has it and clearly tell theyre differentI have very bad news for you Anon, ADHD and Autism have the highest likelihood of comorbidity, even more so than depression, so chances are if you have ADHD you also have Autistm and if you have Autism, you also have ADHD. The research is getting to the point that there are psychologicsts actually suggesting that ADHD and Autism is the same illness just with vastly different symptoms if Autism is a spectrum.
>>34601546As someone with ADHD who has their shit somewhat together:>get medicatedI don't have insurance and I work for 17 dollars an hour and I can afford my meds, you have no excuse, I can help you out and there are tons of private programs who are willing to discount your meds for you if you're willing to shop around.>if you drink caffeine stop, if you drink alcohol stopBoth can really fuck you up and make your ADHD symptoms worse so if your addicted to either start tapper off.The only exception to this rule is green tea due to the l-theanine in it and the low caffeine, if you MUST drink caffeine don't drink more than 100 mg a day.>bedtime and relaxing time is holyI'm not being hyperbolic here, literally bedtime is sacred, set one and stick to it, drop everything and sacrifice everything to keep it sacred. People won't get it, because they aren't like us, but give it a month and you'll feel so much better.Same thing with relaxing time, if your extroverted, do stuff that relaxes and recharges you. If your introverted (like me) spend time alone and do what you want. I generally make Sunday "my day" because I'm also religious and I'm supposed to rest at that time anyway so it's a great excuse to just blow shit off and take care of yourself. Any work or anything stressful can wait till Monday and if its something you need to do, then make sure you get it down on Saturday. Plan ahead, speaking off...>Plan aheadI know its ironic because ADHD and its hard to stick on a schedule but it doesn't have to be a schedule as much as you picking things that are important: tests, papers due, shit that has deadlines, and setting aside time each week or day to do that thing. Don't over complicate it, don't force yourself to do it, do as much or as little planning as you want just make sure its sustainable and you're getting your most important shit done. This includes getting to bed on time and relaxation.I'd post more but I'm out of space.
>>34603059yes. psychology. its the only AP class where i got a 5 on. the only class where i paid attention in class and could recall every term from memory without looking at the book once. i like coding too but computer science is such a god awful degree because of how little coding is involved.
>>34603171i have the addiction gene so id rather not. i already chug 1-2 coffees a day so imagine if i started tasting weed and alcohol on top of that. easy way to go homeless forever
>new fag thinks studying and hard work is real without a goal
>>34604814theres no space in newfag brodie
>>34604450again you can probably get addy from someone on campus. cannabis wont get you addicted that easily. nicotine is an option you can get everywhere but ten times more addictive.
>>34601546One big step I made with adhd is when I realized I was already holding myself accountable, but that it didn't help. You won't shame yourself into focusing i'm afraid.
>>34605205that's an exceptionally retarded suggestion. Adderall is a fast acting stimulant. It is very addictive and crashes hard. That is assuming the street drug you get is actually Adderall. Go see a doctor and favor long acting or non stimulant medication.>>34604450yes you do, that's part of adhd. the good news is this mindset will prevent you from getting addicted to retarded stuff like cigarettes or alcohol. but if you're taking a drug like Adderall every day it's gonna be hard to manage.
>>34605215it doesnt matter what you think of adderall, dumb retard. it is literally officially prescribed for people with ADHD.but sure, get Ritalin then. its whatever. the point was to get any sort of ADHD medication. which you can definitely also get from dealers.
>>34605221Nta but I think that they're right I mean coffee is already a bit like adhd medication and it's just impossible to stop + I feel less alive. The alcohol thing is true too but I feel like if I started with cigarettes it would be over
>>34605232again, get ritalin instead of adderall then.you keep saying alcohol but noone ever told you to start drinking.also to me personally caffeine is nothing like adhd medication.
>>34605221> it's prescribed so it's good and since it's good you can just buy it in the streetAnon, I'm really sorry. > If you feel like Adderall is too short acting try Ritalin Ritalin is shorter acting than Adderall.>>34605232OP, to clarify, I'm not saying you should not consider Adderall or Ritalin as part of regulated medication. All i'm saying is, the shorter acting it is, the more addictive it is, and the hardest the crash is. Hence my advice to favor slow acting stimulants like lisdexamphetamine. And definitely not get medication this addictive and this harmful in the street. > Meds are like coffeeIn a way yes, but they last way longer and they are less addictive. Imagine the first hit of coffee lasting for hours. In addition, I can easily taper off from my medication in 3-4 days and the only side effect is being tired. If I try to stop coffee, I get bad mood and migraines.
>>34605299Before the other retard barges in, when I say that adhd meds are less addictive than coffee, i'm referring to non stimulant and slow acting meds. A strong factor in addiction is how long it takes to hit. Coffee hits very fast. But if you get Ritalin, it's also very fast, so there's a very real risk of addiction.
>>34605299>is shorter actingretard versions of it exist, retard. it also doesnt contain amphetamine salts. this is literally the go to medication in european countries.
>>34605335I see your dealer really has a wide range of high quality products
>>34605356my dealer is the government that pays for all of it, since I don't live in a dystopian 3rd world shithole like the US.that said, there is no way you can't get Retard versions of any these medications somehow, right? It can't be that hard.if not, again, order some cannabis. statistically adhd people are 60% more likely than normal people to self medicate with cannabis in adulthood than normal people.because it works.https://www.leafly.com/strains?filter%5Bhelps_with%5D=add_adhd
>>34604146If I tried to get diagnosed with ADHD and they wanted to throw in an autism diagnosis, could I refuse that? I don't want that label
>>34605416dont you want clarity
>>34605424I'd probably just get in my head over it and feel like life's impossible
>>34605416How is autism a worse label than ADHD? ADHD people can be super productive and hyper focused but usually it's the opposite, autists meanwhile have a reputation of actually being smart
>>34605448If I were self aware about having it I for sure would go into social situations with the expectation that I would struggle and be in my head about it, so I'd rather not know
>>34605432>feel like lifes impossibleyou managed life well so far considering you are enlisted in college and worrying about your performance. whatever diagnosis you may get, it would not be a severe one, since you appear highly functioning. so it would change absolutely nothing except you now know more about yourself and gain an additional perspective of why things are the way they are.
Oh fuck... the adderall has hit my system... the change, it's happening... grRRRGH...!! get away from me, before it's too late...!!(flails on the ground, then stands up and does the dishes)
Oh fuck... the thc has hit my system... the change, it's happening... grRRRGH...!! get away from me, before it's too late...!!(starts dancing, then does the dishes, then does pushups)

I had a psychiatrist appointment for ADHD a few days ago and he says he doesn't think I have it (though he says I do have major executive dysfunction, generalized anxiety, low self-esteem, and general depression). Getting SNRIs prescribed to me, apparently >>34606436 is going to be what life feels like. Also just realized half an hour ago how to turn my entire life around in half a year compared to the 4-5 years I was thinking it would take, so I'm feeling hopeful for the first time in a long time.
>>34607285nice, hope things go well for you anon
