u just kinda have to have experience with coming up with different reasons and explanations though
keep ur usual state during it, stay talkative/enaging/whatever the mood in the room is and watch ur words

make up a story you yourself can believe, usually by changing the truth for your interest (everyone does this btw). the more you practice the better you get. also make you sure they are easy to remember for you even if the other person won't
