i have this old range rover the original buyer had made a new key before he sold my dad the car which doesnt quite fit right. The key works but its so difficult to get it just in the right place to start the car. How can I make the key way better?

All you can do is rekey the ignition.
Call an auto locksmith.

There's no way to make your key better.

You could try a squirt of Lock-Ease.
It makes locks more lubricated. Worth a try.
