My whole life I was the smelly guy, all through highschool and young adulthood I had really bad BO and greasy hair
It was even something I got called into the office at work over more than once

A few years ago I decided to stop using any kind of soap or shampoo and just wash with warm water, and I've become very neutral smelling and less greasy, so I'm pretty sure the soap products were the cause of my issues my whole life by messing up the pH on my skin or something like that

But that's not good enough, I want to actually smell good for once not just not bad, and I'm tempted to start using soap again
Should I try it or do something else?

soap is alkali and the skin needs to be slightly acidic to prevent smelly bacteria and fungi
wash yourself with vinegar and douse yourself in essential oils
if i rub rosemary oil into my scalp for beautiful hair, thats all you can smell, and you can smell it from metres away, even if its just a few drops

It's your diet.
You are feeding the bacteria.

Tell us more about your hygiene routines. How often do you shower, when do you shower, do you use deodorant, hair products? How do you do laundry?

I think they don't wash but use lots of perfumes

Shower after the gym with just warm water which is most days
Probably not showering if I didn't go out at all
Cold wash my clothes with regular detergent and hang dry most of them
Use deodorant, not antiperspirant and apply as needed, usually twice a day

I recently purchased body spray though
