I don’t consume /a/ material too often, but I do love Death Note, and I once binge-watched AoT and Parasyte at one point. I tried Your Lie in April, I thought it was a bore. I also gooned to milf hentai (the best part of anime imo).

I’d like to try some more /a/, but I never like weeb culture to start with. The thing is I’m what you call a “westoid,” and I’ve seen what a lot of otakus/weebs become; as they gloat over Japan they start to disdain the West or anything non-Japanese (hence a lot of America bad Japan good takes I see online). I guess it’s not that much of a surprise since many weebs are also of Latinx or Indian origin, and they hated Anglos to begin with. I see both chuds and tankie weebs do this to an extent.

Now, I respect Japan for the most part, and I also gotta give credit for mangakas for prioritizing their audiences and not bending the knee, but I am also greatly proud of my western heritage and all the beautiful things we accomplished, be it literature, classic movies, classical music, arts, and anything that also influenced the Japanese anime (I also think that some iconic /co/ like Regular Show and Phineas and Ferb cannot be beat). I will acknowledge that modern western entertainment is garbage, but I mainly consume older material to begin with. Strangely enough vidyas are the one thing that I almost always gravitate Japanese for, but most American/western developers treat games too much like cinema than games; plus there isn’t much weebism for Japanese games besides JRPGs.

I think what most westerners mistake, both weebs, normies, and antis alike, is that they treat anime too much like a genre when it’s more of a medium. Not all anime is the same; I don’t have to enjoy nor reject them all, nor do I have to be a part of any weeb culture to enjoy them. At the same time I don’t want to look like one of those poser normies tourists that are plaguing the scene. Do I just not interact with weebs?

Sounds like you already are a weeb.

stop being so fucking pedantic about terms, enjoy what you like. it does not matter what you are as long as you live a good life - which includes having a girlfriend/wife and having friends. if you can't find friends/gf who enjoy same content as you do, then consume that specific content on your own or with a dedicated, smaller group of (online) friends or with other anonymous /a/ folks. nobody forces you to make anime your lifestyle that you have to share with everyone around you. and the person you posted is likely a lolcow making money off his fake weeb persona.

all of this should be obvious, I am spelling it all out for you because sometimes there are legitimate autists on this board and not just trolls.

You're such a dumb, self-obsessed pontificating faggot jfc
watch what you want to watch, read what you want to read.

Why are you so afraid of what you MIGHT come to think? Are you that fucking scared of maybe forming a thought?

part of me wants to get into more anime, but at the same time part of me doesn’t want to get into anime

i feel like i’m missing out on some good stuff, but i don’t want to do anything with the weeb fandom

You can enjoy something without being part of some fandom/group. They are mutually exclusive (unless it's like something where you absolutely HAVE TO interact with other people but even then there are ways to mitigate it). If you don't want to talk about anime with other people then don't. You don't need to reject your heritage or whatever to watch anime.

Which women?

Just ask for suggestions and keep your distance from the "interesting specimen". Just go through whatever curated classics list they have. Most stuff (especially new stuff nowadays) is dogshit but that applies for every medium. You can sift through the garbage for diamonds or watch stuff that is at the very least not bad. I guess you don't get that sense of discovery. Oh well.

just don't interact with weebs. its how i enjoy most things. just stop interacting with online fandoms and don't define your self identity by the slop you consume

Just don't be a weeb
Why does the online culture matter, all communities are full of insufferable people, just don't engage with the community. /a/ is relatively tame, but you'll get shit on (or at least you would have 10-20 years ago) if your tastes are too entry level.

I like anime and manga, but I don't relate at all to most people in the west who engage with it. I cringe at the culture, I don't touch dubs, I can read and understand Japanese so the most I'll do is Japanese subtitles. I don't want to be part of any community that streams from Crunchyroll. I'd rather pirate or buy the Japanese BDs (which are very expensive). And if I happen to come across someone who is specifically like me, I'll be more likely to develop a genuine friendship from it compared to the localized slop they pump out.

If you want to get into something, find a manga, any random manga, and start reading it. If after a few chapters you're not feeling it, drop it and try something else. If you find something you're interested in, you'll find yourself coming back to it. This ensures you're sticking around for something you find personally engaging, it'll be more particular to you. You won't be drawn in or influenced by any community. And maybe that manga has an anime, and you might be curious how it looks in motion with voices.

Don't even start with some massive 10+ year series, just do some random finished series that was short. Maybe you'll like Sakamoto desu ga, I dunno, but it's not a huge investment and it can't hurt to try.

Have other interests. Don't base your life around anime and japanese games. The worst thing about weebs is that they have no culture. They have a superiority complex over the cartoons they watch when most of them know nothing about history, art or literature. Enjoy western made things too.
Also modern anime is just as garbage as modern western media. But that's neither here nor there.
