I am 21. My parents say that I should look for a gf but I have a model competition in less than 4 months and want to order some stuff to build for it (largest show in the state, by the way and I won a prize at the local level).Which do I choose? Convince me one way or the other. I cannot choose both.
You can meet someone at the event. Remember to shower and groom your hair
>>34622180what kind of models? Cars/vehicles yes. Weebshit no.
>>34622180I don't see these as mutually exclusive unless you think you don't have the time or money to do both. Things hardly are that black and white, and besides you don't have a gf so what makes you think that you can just get one in 4 months? And if you can then why don't you?
>>34622198Airliners. Thoughts?>>34622192The only girls there are the wives of boomers. I bathe twice each day. Last show I went to I was talking to this lady and funnily enough (she was in her 60s) she watched anime and built GunPla (hard to believe, but that is what she said).>>34622199>you don't have time or money to do bothThis, I'm afraid.
>>34622222It depends entirely on the type of woman that you're aiming for. Some would be glad to spend time with you while others expect some level of spending, not necessarily because they're shallow but perhaps from the perspective of measuring their own worth? As for time you can just make some. If you truly like someone there's always time somewhere.I'd say find the girlfriend first and then make excuses for you you can't maintain the relationship.
>>34622222>Airliners. Thoughts?Nice quints. Airplanes are vehicles so yes. Also there are mainly older guys making these type of models right? maybe they have daughters or nieces? Lots of women on the apps would love a free plane ride "love to travel" type shit but if you're worrying about $100 idk also was gonna suggest getting into restoring old classic cars that would attract women.
>>34622222Women are cancer. Go to the model show, fuck that 60 year old Gunpla chick.
>>34622251I have money, just do not wish to part with it too easily. If I think it is worth it for the right person, then I will spend it, though.>>34622301>nice quintsThanks.I have about $300k in total savings, but no job at the moment (I've got an insider at NASA, though so maybe I can get into engineering with them). I will likely spend about 20k on flight lessons and maybe 80k on an aircraft. I know of a very special airstrip on the other side of the state that spans an island. The other 200k will be savings, then I work for about five years (assuming I start at 60k before taxes), then I can purchase a house (property is still pretty cheap here).>daughters or niecesThat is a good point, but how would I ask? I am not a club member or anything and my local club is small.
>>34622328Then there isn't a problem, is there? Also I forgot to CHECK THOSE QUINTS >>34622222.
>>34622328>but how would I ask?just exactly like you opened this post except conversing with a person face to face. Your hypothetical script: (old guy compliments your model) "Oh you like that model I made? My parents want me to get a girlfriend but I decided to spend $100 on model gear instead. You couldn't help with that could you? If I married a girl with a model maker in the family at least my inlaws would be cool with the hobby!" I can't predict how or where the convo will go but it could be that easy.
>>34622328>I will likely spend about 20k on flight lessons and maybe 80k on an aircraft. All you need to get her is take her on a vacation flight. No need to be the pilot bro.
>>34622180>Should I spend $100 on model kits or get a gf?Definitely the model kits. Fuck your parents!
>>34622373Shouldn't be.>>34622375This sounds good. I will do that.>>34622384Well being a pilot would mean that travelling is a bit more peaceful private and allows for a more intimate bond. Just thinking long term. Thanks everyone.
>>34622180>I cannot choose both.Could you explain why not?
>>34623405Time. If I work on model aircraft, then those are hours taken away from the prospect of dating. I would need to work on what I have planned every day, if I plan for it to be ready in 4 months. So it more or less shoots my evenings and weekends.Money is a lesser factor too. I technically do have the money, but I am a saver, not a spender (meaning I am a cheapskate, but I can break the habit).
>>34623765Maybe you should look for a woman who wants to work on the models with you?
>>34623801Last that happened, I got an AR pointed at my head. I am a bit wary of that. She was incredibly into me, but I probably would have gotten killed had that relationship continued (worse yet, I saw her car outside the local flight academy when I was at the airport, I do not want to cross paths with her for fear of my own safety, though I am armed).I am not 100% certain what I want, but I do not want that again. Unless you think that folks other than that are out there in the hobby.
>>34622180Spend $100 dollars on model kits and the girlfriend question will disappear.
>>34623964That is a point. I guess it is all a case of keeping busy.
