Name me some good reasons to stay living in canada vs taking the money I have and living a simple life somewhere else? All I do here is work and survive. I accumulate money and don't spend anything for fun. I have no balance of work and fun. Buying a house is a life long commitment now. I don't even know what I'm working towards. And this will seemingly continue until I'm old and can't do it anymore then I will go off and do what I am thinking of doing now. Is there any point of waiting or should I just do it now? It's like the parable of the Mexican fisherman or something

The only real reason is not having enough money. Before you go, consider the following :

>With your current net worth , can you live the rest of your life in x shit holecountry?
>Do I actually know what the realistic living expenses are there?
>Do I understand my rights in X country will be greatly curtailed vs my home country?
>What will I do if the government there is corrupt and turns against me and tries to extort me?
> What will I do if I lose my money somehow (scam , bad investment?)
> What will I do if I develop a serious health issue like cancer?
> Am I willing to learn a foreign language and culture?
> Does the food there suit me?
> What are the toxins I will be exposed to in X shithole?
> Am I willing to live somewhere that is hot and crowded all year long with no escape besides the aircon at my apartment (costs money)?
> What happens if X shithole country becomes more developed and more expensive?
>What if I get old and run out of money?

I'm not saying don't do it, I'm just saying you need a contingency plan for these things.

The question of *where* is rather important.

Leaf here, this country is turning to shit. If you can afford to get out, do it. I only wish I could afford to.

Swim across the Atlantic or Pacific ocean if you are determined to leave.

Canada is actually pretty good if you live in a comfy city. Thunderbay, Saskatoon, Winnipeg, Edmonton, et Al are not comfy.

I don't know where you expect to go. We are sorts as good as it gets in terms of QoL

Could go to Europe or Aussieland, but what do you expect to change?

No I'd be going somewhere like south east Asia where it costs a fraction to live vs here. Mind you I am not rich. I've managed to save like 100k or something. That's enough for a down-payment on a house here to insure I have to keep working forever to pay the mortgage. Or I could do what I'm doing (no rent, no life, good pay) for a few more years and then leave.

IMO we still have it pretty good in Canada. As someone that bought a condo a few years ago I can say that while it has its benefits, owning a place isn't automatically a big financial advantage or substantial QoL improvement. If you look for a quality purpose-built apartment you can often avoid a lot of issues rentals can cause.
The 2nd tier cities tend to be much more affordable as well. It's really the GTA/GVA where affordability is at its worst. And even then with rents coming down you can find deals on places in Toronto etc.

For me even just small trips to New York always give me a renewed appreciation for where I live in Ottawa. Basically seeing how much worse the poverty/crime can be just a bit south in the states makes it easy to appreciate how clean and safe Canada often is.

However you only live once, so venturing out could be a really great experience, and easier to handle financially as you say. I'd maybe suggest first visiting whichever country you choose to go to before fully committing to it though.

I'd also recommend visiting different major cities in Canada as well, if you can afford to and haven't yet. Like if you've only lived in Toronto, you'll probably be surprised by how much there is to do in these other places. The festivals and culture in Montreal are incredible. Ottawa is great if you want a more chill place that still has larger-city amenities. Edmonton is great if you want to get on the housing ladder without spending much, etc. FYI if you want to bring down the cost of travelling to these different places, there are pet-sitting sites that let you live for free in peoples' homes if you take care of Fido etc while the owners are away.

Take a look at the cost of real estate in these other cities as well. With a near 100k down payment you could cover a big chunk of the mortgage, 30%+ in a lot of cases.

This country is a shit hole, our "new imported working class" is jacking up housing prices, creating a fucked job market with fake qualifications and increasing crime rates the whole country over.

The politicians who allowed this should be shot.

Yea. I don't know what the future of this country is. To have a house anywhere close to a decent job and life costs a lot. I'm struggling do I want that. Or buy a house with cash in some comfy poor country. Getting lucky and buying a house that appreciates seems less likely now. I wouldn't have a lot left over for fun or investing or anything. I'm already 40 so time is running out to save for the future. A mortgage would be paid off by the time I'm 65 now.
