I worked at a retailer over 10 years ago. The word going around was that one of the managers asked the boss to have a vacation so he could take his kids to Disneyland. The boss said no. Then the manager was like "Please" and the boss replied, "I'm nobody's bitch."Was this the right move? Why or why not?
>>34632432>Was this the right move? Why or why not?No, this boss should have his balls crushed by a hammer. He has zero empathy, and it's actually a fucking monster. The business wouldn't crumble just because a single manager took his kids to Disneyland for fucks sake, this would improve the manager's mood, he would be grateful, work harder, be more motivated. Now, he was disrespected, even though he was educated, the boss may lose him soon. What a shitty and incompetent boss.
>>34632432>Was this the right move? Why or why not?No, the boss is a retard. If he couldn't give the manager a vacation he should just explain why, and come up with solutions, not act like a fucking dumbass.
>>34632432I bet he thought he was so cool, what a bitch lmao
>>34632432Yeah, that didn't actually happen. But in general, denying employees holiday is nearly always a terrible idea: without holiday, employees get burn-out, and if you piss them off enough they will simply leave. Very occasionally it might be reasonable to *ask* an employee if they could possibly not take any holiday at a particularly important time; but if that was what was happening, the boss should have calmly and politely explained why it was so important. Simply being a dick about it is never a good idea. Any boss who acts like this will have employees quitting and then suing for constructive dismissal.

>>34632432>>34632476This absolutely does happen. It doesn't make sense but it happens anyway. Retail people are insane, and management is often among the most jaded and burnt out. Retail workers have shitloads of skeletons in their closet, too. Many of them are no ok people and retail is the only job they can manage to keep.Corporate also likes turnover. You are not meant to like your job. When they can't pay people any less, the next best thing is to have a reliable stream of workers quitting over time. During slow business periods this leads to the cheapest labor possible, and then they can just put out the "NOW HIRING!" signs before the busy parts of the year.
