I'm an autist. I know not to tell others but my mom leaks it out and I've been in organizations for us so I know others from it. I was a neet for a while so it's hard to erase the stigma.

Normalfag here. We don't see autists as retarded, we see them as the opposite. Smart, nerdy, dorky, bookworms or otherwise eccentric aloof types with some dedicated interest to some intellectual topic. The only people on the planet who see autism as an intelligence deficiency (retardation) are old boomers in their 60's and 70's. They're dying off soon so don't worry about it bro.

Autists ain't retarded, they are socially crippled to shit though that much is obvious. But it can be easily explained to normies if you just tell them

"I got ASD, it's a neurodevelopmental condition, means my nervous system is exhausting for my brain and body. So if I ever go quiet or seen socially out of sync, that's why."

there's no hiding it, so get over trying to hide being neurodivergent
but its fair to tell your mum that it sucks when she goes around telling everyone you're weird before they meet you
(when she inevitablydoes it again, you're within your rights to have a melty)
