once youre an adult youre basically on your own. if you get into trouble like a medical emergency, you have nobody except yourself to rely on. even if you have a spouse or friends, they can only do so much to help you. my only wish is to go back to that time when i was a kid where all i cared about was playing video games. how do you get over this fear of living with no security for the rest of your life?

You have to create your own security, it's part of the process. Yeah if you're living paycheck to paycheck and don't plan ahead, you're going to stay stressed because you're riding the edge of disaster constantly, but if you save well, make good choices, keep up with your shit like medical appointments and obligations, then you're able to relax more because you have a plan, and once you've been through a few crises and came out the other side you'll also grow your confidence because you know firsthand that you can handle them. Think of it like having a messy house and someone is coming over soon. If you leave a mess and have a sudden guest, you're going to panic and start scrambling to clean up, probably doing only what you have to in order to make it presentable in time; if you keep a clean house, however, then you won't be so worried because it's already fine. If you're doing things "right", then you'll enjoy increasing levels of security as you get older, your wage is better, your savings grow, your investments bear fruit, etc. and you're more stable. Plan ahead for what you can predict, accept that unpredictable things will happen, and set yourself up so that you're capable of dealing with them.

I have a house and savings that can last me many years, but because I'm unemployed and have dwindling career prospects, I'm feeling very insecure about the future.
I guess the feeling only goes away if you have millions.

The state will take care of you.
