Is it actually good advice to delete Instagram or will it just turn you to a social outcast (net negative for mental health)?
it's widely known that social media is harmful to your mental health, and that deleting all your social media accounts will result in a significant improvement to mental health.people only put the good parts of their lives on social media so it looks like they have perfect lives while you don't, which is obviously not the case. curating only the good bits leads to a distorted perspective. it's a fucked up keeping-with-the-jones cycle where the only winning move is not to play.
>>34641976Made a facebook once when I was 12. immediately deleted it because I became disgusted with others blogging about their lives and so willingly putting so much of their private lives on display for everyone to see. I wanted no part of it and deleted my account and never looked back.
>>34641976Everyone's different, try cutting instagram out for a week and test whether makes you feel better.>will it just turn you to a social outcastIf you don't have a job or friend circle you are already a social outcast. Deleting instagram won't re-integrate you into society, and it might even hurt you if you're using it to communicate with friends.
>>34641976You should absolutely delete Instagram if you're constantly on it and you keep comparing your life to rich influencers and it affects your mental health. You should not delete Instagram if you're a regular person who follows family and friends and want to see what they're up to every once in a while.
She's still on x though
>>34642121I have a job and a few friends I rotate with seeing. None of them have social media, but I have a big chunk of friends living outside my town that I sometimes keep up with social media. I feel I'd lose that and any descent dating prospects if I delete it though, but then again I hate how fake it all is and sometimes feel I rather be a hermit>>34642124I keep it for the latter, but I also know they all just curate their lives to be some fake narcissist experiment, which also I'm in habit of doing, which brings out the worst in me>>34642126people don't really show their lives on X though
i find that the less time i spend on my pc in general, the happier i am. humans should be going outside and socializing. the only thing you need a PC for is to check emails and thats it.
>>34641976I'm a photographer and I think my digital well-being was overall better when I just installed the app to upload some pictures and then deleted it after a few days. Now I'm not sure if I can do it, because even though I use it to doomscroll and waste time a lot, it also lets me know about local events and shit.I've been thinking of maybe deleting the app and only using it through my PC's browser, since it's much harder to infinite scroll there for some reason.
