Yes. There's no such thing as "learning software dev". You either become a dedicated engineer and build shit for people for money, or you start a business and build the tools you need for it. This is not compatible with nursing, even though nursing is just blue collar grunt work without decision making, the physical exertion (including mental fatigue over lack of sleep) won't leave you room for solving minucious problems in development.

In development, you have to think minuciously to solve individually irrelevant steps, and that lack of sense of progress can be daunting. Shit like AI also is phasing out most simpler applications, so the job is always on specialized use cases. Learning a language, and a library within it is to memorize a vast toolbox, so in every case, you have to specialize quickly.

The only complementary skill related to development that can be generally used by other skillsets is entry level webdev, that is "Learning to present information using HTML, CSS and maybe JS".

A lot of missing context here. Are you currently unemployed? Have you ever been employed as a software dev?

The traditional role for software dev seems to be dwindling in demand for sure. I say that as an unemployed dev since early this year. I haven't started looking for another job yet but the prospects seem very grim.

Yet somehow I think there's still demand for technologists with expertise and skillsets which developers have. I'll figure that out when I want to face the job market again in a few months, see how I have to adapt and what I have to learn to stand out.

The primary driver is that I think I'd find more fulfillment with my life helping people rather than idling away in corpo software dev. I've always liked to help people, and the times I've felt satisfied about myself were those few times my first aid training came in handy during a crisis.

As someone who works in tech, if you have the ability to change fields to something that is more personally fulfilling, I say go for it. Most days it feels like my job only enables me to continue existing so that I can do my job. I get no satisfaction or pride from it in any capacity. I'm not in anything dev related, but I'm sure it's the same feeling.

I unfortunately don't have any advice for you but I'm a software dev of 10 years and I feel pretty much exactly the same about everywhere I've ever worked. Also the industry is worse than ever before right now, it feels like it's been hijacked by investors and businessfags/productfags who only care about appeasing them and inflating stock values rather than building a good product that actually solves problems and that people actually want to use. Good luck, I'm probably jumping ship in the next couple years as well, I just don't know what to jump to yet.

Nursing is not meticulous, it's just scheduled physical work. Here's a nurses routine in an average ward
>Distribute food to the patients
>Administer morning drug, including IVs and IMs.
>Bathe the patients including movilizing them
>Change the sheets
>Keep track of inventory
>Transport patients to studies
>Keep track of mobilizations, drug administrations, signs
>Receive incoming patients
>Ready patients for discharge at midday
>Distribute food again
>Write shift updates
>Handover to the next shift
It's repetitive. There's no time to know the patients either, you deal with their moodyness and also workplace drama, since most other nurses are also uneducated. ICU is a lot more busier involving keeping track of fluids, you're on the watch for rapid changes in signs signalling dangerous complications.

lmao if that's true congrats on picking nurse because it's even worse, basically cop level in terms of not being able to think about anything else all day long when something goes mostly wrong at work

often feel like a piece of shit for being inexperienced or making reasonable human errors.
halo effect makes coworkers place unwarranted high expectations on you.
sure hope it gets better with experience. at least the pay is good.
