My Volkswagen 2.4L AAB engine makes this weird clanging noise, especially when cold. I think it gets a bit better when the engine has warmed up.Any idea what's wrong with it?4chan doesnt allow video, so I had to upload it to Minisome:https://minisome.dy.fi/index.php?thread=201
>>34706111Link don’t work for me. Put a long screwdriver handle to your ear and use the tip as a stethoscope. Find the loudest stationary point and report.
>>34706161>Link don’t work for me.Works fine for me m8, what happened? It's a platform I've coded myself from scratch so I'd be interested to know.
>>34706250I am an iPad user. It is old. Maybe I fat thumbed. I try again.
>>34706250That rotary loading symbol forever. Not a lot it can be. Engine noise is engine noise. A clicking clacking that quickly goes is a timing guide. No danger. Jingle jangle that gradually fades is loose exhaust. If it sounds different in or out of gear, it is a body attached point and not an engine problem. Functioning glow plugs, you can check if one of the exhaust manifold runners take longer to warm up. If you determine oil problems, flush it with gasoline. You can put in a mouthful here and there to clean the oil system and it will evaporate out with moderate driving.
>>34706299>That rotary loading symbol foreverYeah my server is just super slow, but vids will load up eventually. The engine noise is a constant clinging / clanging like a valve was hitting the cylinder head or something. Sometimes sounds like a leaking exhaust manifold almost. The idle sound is just loud and unpleasant.I'll do the stetoscope thing tomorrow.I dunno if this is connected to the engine noise problem, but like 1 out of 20 starts, the engine struggles to start. Starter motor is pristine, I just need to give it a lot of gas before it fires up. Fuel filter has been replaced. But almost always my car starts instantly, like absolutely perfectly.I have no idea why sometimes it's as if it doesn't get diesel or there is no spark.I'm a gasoline engine guy so I barely understand how diesel machines work.
>>34706550Maybe you have a glow plug not preheating. Idk diesel too well either. If you can’t feel of mist water to find a cold cylinder at startup, maybe you are the type to have thermal camera capability on your phone, to find a cold exhaust section, locating any culprit.
>>34706751OP here.I invited a friend over to listen to the engine. The weird clanging sound stopped after a while and then the engine ran normally. My friend commented that it was running smooth as fuck, very steady idle.He thought it could be an injector issue, adding that if it was a serious engine failure, the sound wouldn't just go away on its own
