How does one rationalize and live in a world with plenty of evil?

We may not be the source of goodness, but we still have to learn how to participate in goodness and not bar its entry, and the trials that this life provides are the exact lessons that we need in order to become good participants. Adversity is medicinal, so we should be grateful for it rather than resentful.
Choosing good may reveal virtue but it doesn't make goodness itself more valuable. A world with less evil and fewer opportunities to reject it could still be a better world because there would simply be less harm.

No one's saying that evil is a good thing and should be fostered for the sake of giving us more opportunities to be virtuous. They're just pointing out why it's silly to get depressed about the fact that the world isn't already perfectly good, because if this world were perfectly good we would have nothing to learn, nowhere to grow, and no examples to show us the folly of evil.
