How much do landlords fuck you in the ass if you leave before your lease is up?
>>
I’m a landlord I generally let people leave and keep their deposit in this situation. I think that’s what you can expect from 90% of independent landlords. If it’s an operator of an apartment complex they might try to really fuck you.

I would be happy to be rid of you and stick it to the next guy.

I'm in an apartment complex. They own multiple buildings across the city. They have fucking cameras in the hallways and courtyard even right outside my apartment door.

Not only did they require last months rent in addition to the first months rent, but a motherfucking DOUBLE security deposit on top of that.

They have a clause in the lease that if I want to leave, I have to give them 90 days notice.

It's not the landlords that you need to worry about, it's that they'll fuck your credit rating, so you won't be able to get a credit card or a loan or a bank account for years.

I suppose it can't hurt to send a notice asap, or at least check if they can legally require you to inform them 90 days in advance or only something like 1 month

They will probably want to “sub lease” or something gay. You could consider lying to them about your reason for leaving. For example I know you basically cannot do shit if someone has to leave because the military needs them somewhere. You might look into other legal provisions like this. Otherwise just ask the retarded woman who works in the office to help you. Use the technique of telling her your entire life sob story and annoying the fuck out of her until she helps you. This works so well it’s unreal. Any time someone jams you up you can annoy them into submission this way.

No, you misunderstand. This isn't some realtor company with an office on the property. This is one dude, that owns multiple buildings. They're old too. At least this one is. I know him by name. He doesn't have an "office". Just a phone number to reach him and his "crew".

When I met him the first time to show me the apartment, motherfucker only had his pickup truck parked outside the building. His "office" is his truck.

And the way I pay rent is by mailing him a check to some PO box.

They can legally only fuck you to the extent that they lose income. If your lease has 6 months to run and they re-rent it next month, they can only charge you for the one no-income month plus costs.

Costs - Some cities require them to repaint or do other cleaning between tenants, and if your leaving means they have to do that sooner than normal, they can legitimately charge you.

Depends on your oease. Read the early termination clause. Some will just charge you one month's rent. Others expect the full remainder of the lease to be paid in cash immediately along side another full month as penalty.
Depends entirely on what you signed.
