How to I get closer to God when I grew up secular? I want to believe but sometimes it's hardI only know one other Christian in my life, just a friend I speak to onlineWhen times are tough and I feel hopeless, lonely, nihilistic and suicidal (which happenes a lot nowadays); How can I ask God to help me?Can God be my friend that I can speak to when I'm lonely? How do I stop sinning when I've struggle with porn and thoughts of suicide since I was twelve?

Just speak to him. There aren't magic words you have to say.Maybe you should join a group.

>>34715856No such thing. Christ is King

>>34715849>When times are tough and I feel hopeless, lonely, nihilistic and suicidal (which happenes a lot nowadays); How can I ask God to help me?What people call "prayer" is mental placebo for readjusting your mindset. I had a personal religious revival a few years ago and for a while I really tried being earnest and sincere about it. Then a series of bad events, both materially and spiritually, started happening. People started dropping out of my life left and right, work started to go south, I couldn't resist the call of alcohol or marijuana to ease my anxiety, the world itself just became very cold and hostile. I kept praying, I kept going to Mass, but it didn't help. I prayed to God over and over every morning, said countless Rosaries, with help for my impulses and addictions, but they only ever got worse. I think the breaking point is when I confessed to a priest about drug and alcohol use and premarital sex with the woman I was seeing at the time. He literally told me "you're not even trying," which struck me as odd because I had been praying for help with these issues, vehemently. I realized if it's incumbent on me to "try," then what is "God" really doing other than giving me guilt and false hope in varying degrees?I don't think you need to try and connect with "God," I think you need lifestyle changes and a way to try to be around more people. If prayer is useless without action you might as well leave the prayer part behind and just focus on the action part.

>>34715849You are already on the road to do that anonWhat you need to do is to search for him, either through reading the bible, going to chruch, praying, looking up christian debates or podcasts, or christian movies or music. You can engage with whatever type of christian content you want, just find the one you likeThe second part of this is to look for him "with an open heart". Its like, engaging in good faith with the material, not in a snarky, gotcha, looking for inaccuracies type of way. Truthfully asking yourself "what if he's real?" and then following up with that through engagementDo that and wait for god to show, once you find him you will start seeing him working in your life with crazy ass coincidencesYou might feel a bit schizo at first because the coincidences are that spot on, but you will also start loving him tooIve been an atheist for like 6 years, like truly hating him and all, and God found me in my suffering and he's been helping me ever sinceGodspeed anon
Christians aren't closer to god than you are. Learn the motivations of a few more of them and you'll know they're just like their children- joining lgbt anti-white groups to fit in.
>>34716028> drug and alcohol use and premarital sex with the woman I was seeing at the timeDo not feel bad about drug and alcohol use and premarital sex. By engaging in these you are merely upholding time-honored Christian traditions. One is not a true Christian without them.
>>34716348>Do that and wait for god to show, once you find him you will start seeing him working in your life with crazy ass coincidences>You might feel a bit schizo at first because the coincidences are that spot on, but you will also start loving him tooOr, you know, they might really just be coincidences, and you're deluding yourself into thinking it's "God" working them until you hit a really bad streak again and realize no one is looking after you and you're just being subjected to the chaotic whims of an at best indifferent and at worst hostile universe. >>34716028The whole concept of God giving you prosperity in your worldly life is also antithetical to the point of the gospels, at least I M O. There are many, many Christian martyrs and saints who are supposedly in Heaven after not only suffering through awful lives but being subjected to brutal deaths as well. God doesn't work miracles for anyone on this planet, it seems like he just likes putting people through hell and misery to give them Stockholm syndrome and if you don't like it too bad you get hell and misery forever.
