How does it normally go if someone says they want to set you up for a date with another person? I have never been "set up" in my life but I don't even know how it really goes. I am afraid to say yes because what if I look at the woman and don't like her? Long story short, a Turkish grandmother I do yard work for said she would love for me to meet her daughter because I am apparently so nice. I think I am a nice guy but I am always hesitant because I am basically an autist too. Anyway, she said her daughter has had bad luck with guys and she really wants her to meet someone nice. So if I tell her yes, what usually happens next? I am going to be real with you, my biggest fear is that I say yes and the woman they want me to meet is obese or has kids or chain smokes or something. So to the people who have been "setup on dates" before, how does it normally go? Tell me all details and leave nothing out.

"Bob, I know a girl named Jane you might like. Want to meet up with her?"
"O K"

"Jane, I know a guy named Bob you might like. Want to meet up with him?"
"O K"

"Bob, here's Jane's number. Give her a call."

"Hello, is this Jane? This is Bob. Our friend Joe seems to think we'd get along. Want to meet for Coffee?"
"O K"
"Great. How's Starbucks Tueday at 3:00? I'll be the nervous blond guy in the blue shirt."

In general, women (including your own mom) set men up on dates to give a woman a chance because she thinks the other woman deserves a good guy. You get singled out as “a good guy” and they start trying to hook you up with women who have problems because they’ve clocked you as somebody who will just accept it. Who you are and what you want is completely fucking irrelevant. You are an item that is to be offered to another woman.
I’d say to try this one out simply because the lady is old and not American, so it’s slightly less likely that this is a “give a fucked up woman a chance” situation. If you don’t like the woman for a reason that would piss off the old lady (single mom, smoker, fat, etc), then just make up some other reason that you didn’t like her so you don’t ruin your ability to do work for her.

Why would a American woman try to pawn off a woman who doesn't have her shit together onto a man they consider nice? It seems mean spirited.

You have the female concept of personhood reversed there.
It is not mean spirited, especially to them. The woman is nice and she deserves something nice to happen to her. The woman is not being pawned off onto a man, the man is being presented to the woman as an easy option. I guess you could think of it like offering a healthy cricket to a frog. Mean spirited toward the cricket, nice thing to do for the frog. Depends on with which one you sympathize and women sympathize with other women more than you. Just how it is.
