my bf of 2 1/2 years and i are stuck in a bumfuck ass town with nothing to do, no stimulation or friends around us and it's exasperating our depression and mental illness. we're trying to get out of our situation by moving to a new town but it's been increasingly hard and taking a toll on our relationship. we've gone through so much together and i don't want to break up but we are at a loss on how to help each other and make each other's lives better.

I hate to break this to you, but this is a time for you to know what real love is. It's not like how it is on TikTok and instagram where you get these lovely banquet marriages and everyone's happy and mom and dad cheer you on with champagne in the end. No, you figuring out what groceries to buy from the 20 dollars your boyfriend gave you in a sweaty kitchen while he sadly had to use the money on the rent is the reality. You're in it to survive together, not just to have fun together.

If anything step away from watching all the disturbing graphic imagery and death metal music and try to spend those quiet moments positively and all will be better. Therapists and medicine can help too. The best thing you can do, is focus on those tiny moments your boyfriend is sincere to you; something as simple as "how is your day?" instead of focusing on the negatives will make things better too.
