How can we save money?

>inb4 go to /biz/
If I ask about that there, I’ll get advice on making money with crypto and stocks, and that’s not what I want.

Start with making a budget, then you can actually start selecting areas to cut back

no, seriously, go to /biz/ and do the polar opposite of what they tell you

Stop spending it, retard

Get a bolt on bidet for the toilet. They are like fifteen bucks. You’ll save that much in a month on not using as much bathroom tissue.

Hand up the file nozzle when it stops. Cramming fuel into the car fucks up the evaporative system. Any extra fuel is unusable and will leak out the vent line. Topping off is a waste in many ways.

*Hang up the fuel nozzle.
The sun was in my eyes.

To misquote Charles Dickens:

Annual income $50,000 and annual expenditure $49,999 - result happiness
Annual income $50,000 and annual expenditure $50,001 - result misery

I read PT Barnum say that but maybe he was quoting Dickens. Never read. “It was the best of times. It was the worst of times.” wtf is that? Contradictory from the getyeup. I can’t get down with that.

Been wondering about the same thing, here's what's been working for me this year. It's a compromise between being accurate with your budget but not having to micromanage every single expense
Write down how much money you make.
Divide it into 3 categories, you can tweak this numbers and decide what you include where but this worked for me:
>50% for monthly payments
rent, utilities but also the few subscriptions I have including my monthly public transport ticket etc
>30% for variable payments
I subtract an average of how much money I need for groceries, this way I don't have to track how much money I spent on those every time I buy something and the rest are my "free" expenses for the months. These I track in my journal to keep an eye on them. These are mostly things i buy for fun. Going out with friends, games, books, furniture etc but sometimes also less "fun" things like some tool or kitchen appliance or whatever
>20% for saving
I split these between some money into an ETF for my retirement which I won't touch until I get close to that, some money in an ETF that I can touch eventually when I'll need to buy something big and some just in a sparate bank account.
Been doing some fine tuning here and there, but so far it helped me to at the very least get a better feel for how much I'm spending on what. And it's quite low effort too, all I do is recalculate the new average for groceries at the end of the month and keep track of the shit I buy.
Also this is pretty much just the baseline, if you make enough money to crank the savings percentage up, go for it, for me it just isn't feasible at the moment.
