Should’ve made an update post on my OG thread (number in subject line and post image). I made an appointment with a neurologist in Chicago long after I made that thread. September 30th. It’s the soonest I could get. Genuinely hope I can get some answers on what the fuck is wrong and why I’m experiencing this at the age I am. Thank you for those that shown concern o7
>>34772796Well, the way I figure it, cowboy to cowboy, is that there ain’t much we can tell you that the grass on the prairie can’t tell you better. All the best, partner.
>>34772796good luck. not sure what else to say but a doctor is due. i'd write down the details on a pad for when/what you're forgetting. you didn't hit your head or anything?
>>34772796That seems like a very long wait and I'd absolutely call around to other offices to try and make a sooner appointment. Hell I wouldn't be above going to an emergency room during an episode to see if they'll do the head mri that day. You could maybe take a multi vitamin for the off chance it's a vitamin issue.
>>34772796Have you been tested for sleep apnea?
This doesnt sound like the cognitive decline that comes with early onset dementia, since you'd be in a more contant state of confusion. You have moments of swinging in and out of awareness, so to me it sounds like heavy dissociation. If your brain is processing trauma in the background, it can take so much work that you lose touch with reality and its not a sign of decline just temporarily redistributed mental resources. Did something horrible happen? Its always possible that you dont even remember. Although it is scary to experience losing touch with the world around you, and its worrying to watch yourself "slipping", it's NOT a sign of "cognitive decline". don't panic and don't overdiagnose yourself. As long as the "forgetting" is happening in quiet moments when you feel safe like as you say with your partner, in the shower, shuffling your pockets for keys, it indicates that your brain's just doing what it needs to do. Its not great to run a red light but its not the worst either. Watch it. And if it keeps happening then i'd suggest taking intentional time like to read a book you dont really give a shit about just to give your brain whatever time it needs to get it over with on a regular basis. I hope that helps. does this mostly happen in moments where you feel safe and comfortable? That's a sign that you're just processing something. are you aware of anything major happening, ever, that you might not want to think about but still needs attention? what kind of things are you thinking about leading up to losing touch with reality? Does that give you any clue as to what you're unconsciously dealing with?also don't trust doctors just because they can fling a qualification around. So many of them are actually incompetent so don't be shocked when you don't get the help you need. Some of them are good but you have to look hard
