I work in Clinical Engineering as a guy who fixes/maintains/calibrates medical/laboratory equipment, and a few months ago we hired someone who I believe is intelligent, but struggles deeply with confidence issues and is so afraid of making mistakes that he seems incapable of taking action by himself. Example: He told me that he needs a grounding strap for his desk, and I told him to take the one off my desk and I will get another one. I told him this at like 8am, and he comes back to me several hours later with a few other questions, and then reminds me that I have still not told him how to take the ground strap mount thing off my desk. In reality, it takes a Phillips screwdriver to loosen two screws. I was astonished by this.

When I was younger, I struggled deeply with confidence, but I am one of those mid 30s millennials that looks 10 years younger, and after deep reflection and personal growth, I found confidence, and I walk around the hospital like I own the place and love flirting with lab girl qts while doing fun stuff with hardware. 5 years ago, I could only dream of this level of confidence. I know this person from my last job, and I know that he looks up to me, so I feel like I have some kind of responsibility to sit down with him and talk to him about these issues, but I am not sure if it is my place, and even if it is, I am not sure what to say and how to help him. I know from my own experience, that "becoming confident/finding confidence" takes time, and is a deeply personal matter, so maybe I am just wasting my time.

Has anyone ever encountered a situation like this? Have you ever helped/guided anyone who is struggling into becoming a person who is confident and capable? What approach did you take? I feel like he has potential, but his personal issues are very, very deep, and I am not a therapist, so I am lost.

Yes you are the hospital creep, I've met guys like you and the girls find you very uncomfortable to be around

I like how you focus on one aspect of the post to project your own insecurities and ignore the rest, 10/10, gr8 b8 m8. I think if I were delusional, I would not be getting IDd at the liquor store and bars.

Do you have any advice to help my coworker? Or are you just here to shit talk on the internet to make yourself feel better about the state of your life?

You are delusional hence why you refuse to consider my post. You claim to have mastered the inner self through "reflection" yet you cannot fathom how to help someone else who needs the dame help? Its because you can't, because you didn't. This post was a cry for help from your subconscious.

He is still at the point in his life where he thinks that arguing on the internet is a good use of his time. Hopefully he grows out of it eventually.

No problem

I'm not being a dick, truth hurts sometimes. I already provided my logic, if he already taught himself to be a super confident guy he should be able to teach others. But he can't for "some reason". Reread my post.

I'm not arguing, I posted my thoughts with no foolish idea that you would be open to accepting them. Not my first rodeo

What logic? What argument? All you did was shit on op for trying to help someone. You think that confidence can be taught and instilled into a deeply troubled, and probably autistic person, that is being described here? If this were true this board would not exist, and neither would /r9k/. Kill yourself anon, you bring nothing but misery to the world.

Yes yes I'm sure you are totally a different person

Maybe dude is just new and just didn't know how to take the thing off? Unless you're concerned about the several hours it took for him to ask, but you said he littered it with other questions so he could've just done sumn else.

What else is there to do, just let him know you're there to help with whenever he needs it. Maybe some motivational speech how it gets better if you blah blah
