I feel like I’m sort of auto piloting through life, especially since becoming employedLife just goes by so fast and I basically do nothing in my free timeSo many hours just wasted away doing nothing but scrolling or other stuffBut I never want to do anything I don’t feel an inclination to and nothing is really on my mindI don’t really understand how to plan on doing something and then actualize itSometimes I do actually engage in my hobbies and enjoy them more than something like doomscrolling or urge surfing but the habit doesn’t lastBut I basically don’t feel conscious over my mind it’s like I’m doing everything in autopilot but have moments of time where I notice “oh I should do X” or remember certain things I used to like or have actual memories of things I used to do - like waking out of a stupor But I don’t think sitting at work and saying some mantra of “At 5 PM tonight I will do X” will actually make me do itBut otherwise I’m just wasting day after day and week after week Even just reading a page a day I could’ve finished multiple books by now idc
Why do you do anything at all mateExactlyGetting a bunch of books ticked off is meaningless if it amounts to no goal external of it. All of this shit is meaningless and you don't actually care about any of it beyond some people telling you you should do it.Find something actually worthy to pursue. Uncover what other people are doing and their trajectories and follow suit if something looks promising
>>34774667I don’t give a fuck about other people
Write shit down, what you want to do today, tomorrow, etc. Constantly remind yourself to slow down and stop autopiloting.
>>34775103Aight then
>gooner who has yellow fever>"i don't do anything worthwhile"no fucking shit
>>34775110I have this problem and for me personally I need to keep a written schedule for myself. Doesn’t have to be down to the minute but I need a basic framework. It also helps to reinforce ‘what do i want to do today?’ ‘what are my goals this week?’ instead if just daily zombie mode get to weekend repeat. It’s different for everyone but I find that writing everything down helps me remember that i want or need to do certain things
>>34775125? Sorry next time I’ll make OP a picture of a big cock since you’re such a faggot
>>34775098You don't need to give a fuck about them to take pointers from them and work out what actually seems to have worked in their lives. Stay in a pit of meaninglessness then
>>34775131Why talk like this you sound mad and that you’re making a lot of assumptions lmao
>>34775098That's where you're wrong friend, everything you do feels worthwhile thanks to people. You think you don't care, but you do. At the end of a long journey, learning an instrument for example, you want to play for people. You don't need them to clap, just observing you is enough, that feedback, even silent observation from afar, is good enough to sustain you and make this worthwhile. And I'm not saying that you can't or don't enjoy playing for playings sake, but playing for people completes this activity. If you weren't able to play for people at all, this activity would be like courting a woman for a really long time, knowing that you can't have sex with herThere's an end goal. It's a cherry on top, but it's the cherry that makes the cake with us humans.I say this as someone who tried his hand dancing, singing, acting, ttrpging, board gaming, all kinds of social hobbies and activities - everything is meaningful with people, nothing is meaningful without people. To go against your nature is what a mong would do.I fully empathize with doing nothing when given freedom, that's a separate issue, but I wholeheartedly disagree with your statement about people. Even as someone who's a loner, I've come to recognize that people are the problem, but people are also the solution.Choose a performative or social hobby - this is your next step.
>>34775138>read a book>that would’ve been better but there were no people around to see me read it
>>34775201You're going to use this knowledge with people, eventually it all goes back to people. You wouldn't do anything if there weren't people to witness it eventually. To say I don't give a fuck about people - as a human - is the most retarded attitude you can have and it's likely why you're on adv asking for advice
>>34775220Maybe we just genuinely see the world different because what the fuck are you talking about and what does it have to do with the OP
>>34774286Ever thought of what it means?late 14c., "settle a dispute, determine a controversy," from Old French decider, from Latin decidere "to decide, determine," literally "to cut off," from de "off" (see de-) + caedere "to cut" (from PIE root *kae-id- "to strike"). The sense is of resolving difficulties "at a stroke." For the Latin vowel change, see acquisition. The meaning "make up one's mind" is attested by 1830. Related: Decided; deciding.Cut. Eat. Trim the BS. That is how to decide. You do not need to feel like doing things in order to do them.
>>34775771No why the fuck would I think about etymology
>>34777192Answer me why you would not.
>>34777192nta, but their point is that all life is autopilot - people who "do things" (whatever that means) do them because they've removed the bullshit in their life that might otherwise cause them to get stuck in paralysis. you mention scrolling - that's the biggest and most obvious one. hours a day just staring at a slab of glass that tricks your brain into thinking you're "doing things". imagine how much simpler it would be to do shit if you weren't compelled to stare at an algoslop feed all day. the etymology lesson is the anon trying to help you reframe your thinking. it's not about "doing things", the trick is to remove things that stop you from doing things. humans naturally want to do things, that's literally boredom is - your brain saying "lets fucking do something". cut the slop out, and the things can start to seem like they simply do themselves, because your natural state is doing things
>>34774286Read Atomic Habits. You will build a habit of doing something, very small at first, but with that build your identity. If you’re on autopilot and don’t feel desire / the intrinsic thought of doing something, you won’t do it, and if you won’t do it you won’t think of doing it, this is a negative trajectory that sums out to 0 Sounds like you? But, and this is long term so it might seem weak and unsatisfying, just doing a bare minimum every day sort of changes courseIt’s small but it builds your identityI say this because you don’t seem like someone who has choice paralysis or lack of focus, but just aren’t conscious of what you want to doBut if you can spin this into, say, reading 2 pages of a book a dayOpening the book and reading those two pages before you, continuing if you want or putting it downBut you do this for weeks, months, etc you will passively compound the amount of this task you complete, it WILL be on your conscious mind, and your identity will form around itFor example; how many times have you had the thought “I should be doing X right now” but don’t do it - you may be habitually doing this and building that identity as someone who doesn’t do thingsSmall habits, time, big changesThat’s all
