Just received news that I just missed the cusp for a highly selective aptitude exam for my dream career track and I'm just feeling numbed out. Everyone I talked to was certain I'd pass. And this has become a constant pattern of disappointment.>you are my best student anon you should apply to [prestige university]>rejected>go to cc and transfer to state school instead, graduate with honors>anon id love to have you in my study abroad program next semester, please apply>rejected>anon you would be an excellent fit for this language scholarship, please apply>rejected>anon you are exceptionally bright you would be a great fit for my graduate cohort, please apply>rejected>wageslave for 2 years full monkmode reading and studying and became fluent in my desired language, grow massive library with 1 or 2 highly specific interests>apply to tons of subject-specific internships and entry level positions, express personal interest to hiring manager or research fellow etc>radio silence, getting rejection emails like 12-18 months late>decide private sector is fucked and sign up to take aptitude test for public sector>we regret to inform you that blahblah we encourage you to test again next yearI am now almost 30 and have never gotten a break to really prove myself. I'm a strong writer, a great interviewer, confident, well-rounded. i have a pretty thick writing portfolio (policy wonk) I am motivated, passionate and i can tell my parents are partway heartbroken and just confused.I still love my life, I am always happy to apply myself but it just feels like I am stonewalled no matter what direction I go in. I don't know how normies get jobs so easily. I know I'm not perfect, but I have also never received pointed feedback or criticism on why I was passed over or what I can improve on. So I'm just left to flail and keep guessing in random directions.
what are you applying for?
>>34777435Anything and everything tangentially related to foreign affairs, weapons trafficking, counterterrorism, diplomacy, war studies, non-state actors, etc. Anything under that umbrella.
>>34777471do you not have military experience or something they'd want for this umbrella of jobs?are these government gigs or contract? i know the government system throws out apps left and right before a human even looks at them.what are you doing now?
>>34777494I wanted to join the military straight out of high school and 99d my ASVAB but learned I was disqualified for hearing loss. This last opportunity was through the competitive service. I took an aptitude exam at a testing center while someone was watching me.The opportunities before that were all private sector research institutions, think Brookings, RAND and quite a ways down in terms of 'DC clout'Right now I'm just wagecucking as graveyard shift security/firewatch because I get to be alone. Had a lot of eggs in this basket so I'm thinking I should just TEFL somewhere overseas.
>>34777532if you're still security near 30, it's not going to bode well on your resume, especially for jobs that may be more often given to cock suckers over merit.i've been in government and seen enough of how the game is played. chain of command is simply who is best at metaphorically sucking the dick of the higher up.it sounds like because you never did military or any other government position your foot isn't even in the door.when i got my first government gig i had gotten rejected by the computers for years before a human could even see my app. i just cold called every ranger station in the surrounding states until one found a backdoor to hire me.wdym firewatch?
