I don't have my own car, only my parents', and I'm scared to drive them even when I do get a chance. I got a license in my late teens but never got used to driving. How the fuck do I muster the courage and habit to become competent now, especially when I have nowhere I wanna go that often? It's like being stuck in a rut.
>>34778574You just have to do it. Teach yourself, use resources, drive defensively, don't be an idiot and look at your phone.
>>34778574when i taught kids i found the most rural areas to drive to and taught them there. it gave them the ability to go slow in towns and fast on country roads. Even parks, abandoned/empty work places, or schools on the weekend aren't a bad spot to practice.alternatively choose times that there is lower traffic like at night or on the weekend.one of the harder parts of teaching nervous drivers is that you have to think about it like you're in a school of fish. if you feel pressure from the other fish swimming in the lane, you're liable to act stupid to adjust. you have to learn to ignore those around you for good decision making. if someones on your ass, let them pass if you can and don't just gun the accelerator or panic and find a place to turn because they're being an asshole.if you really want just get a sign that says student driver, to let others know around you. they sell some magnetic ones online too.
this thread comes up every week and the answer is the same, just practicetake your mom to walmart or something

>>34778930You're right but to be fair:1) This site is home to a lot of neets/losers/etc.2) If people are beyond those problems they can most likely solve their own issues.

>>34778930I just don't come to this board ever man sorry I just got a burst of anxiety about it and thought this may be a good place to dump about it and get some tips.I appreciate the first 3 anons who replied.I did try to get back into driving before, used to drive to the hospital to visit my uncle every week until he died, after that I spent a while away from home in a place with way better public transport so I never felt the need there. Now that I'm back it feels like I'm back to fucking square 1. Taking my mom shopping sounds like a good excuse to practice though maybe I'll try that.
