About 2 weeks ago I was recently laid off from my moderately well paying job due to no fault of my own. I am a broke college student and thanks to the current economic situation and my geographical location, work opportunities, especially for part time/seasonal full time work are incredibly sparse. It took me nearly 2 years to find a job within 45 minutes of where I live.

Now that the backdrop is set I can explain the drama. After my parents heard that I was laid off they immediately began demanding that I break my lease and move back in with them. Now would be a good time to mention that I moved out explicitly because of their behavior. I can get into more details later if desired. Along with not wanting to move back in with them, breaking my lease would result in one of my housemates going homeless and my other housemate having to drop out of university due to not being able to afford housing without housemates. My parents are aware of their situations and have told me that they do not care and I should be unwilling to assist them. They also blame one of my housemates for my car recently breaking down despite him having no association with my car problems and being willing to drive me around while my car was being repaired.

I have had to deal with similar behavior all of my life and I am slowly going insane. It is not possible to function in university without parental support in this day and age and as such I am effectively reliant on whatever charity they happen to be willing to give. I do not know how to properly cope with them most of the time.

You could just turn this into a paragraph, at best. We didn't need all the context.
Sure you couldn't have run this through with Gemini?

Here's how I read it:
>More money
>BUT MOMMY AND DADDY ARE FUCKING MEAN! >:'(
or:
>I'm bout to be homeless because I'm fucked
>BUT AT LEAST I'M NOT WITH MY EVIL ABUSIVE RAPIST XENOPHOBIC SATANIC PARENTS!

You missed the point. I dont understand how some people are so willing to just fuck over friends like that. I just grew up in a very toxic family. My brother gets all of my parents money while being willing to curse out my parents in public. I seem to be the only person in my family that has any real capacity for empathy, and I swear its driving me nuts seeing how they treat each other and other people.

Quite frankly I dont care about their money, I just wish they would have faith in me and who I surround myself with.

they're housing you. did they pay for your college tuition too?
you're at their mercy anon. you gotta play ball. they can believe whatever retarded shit they way. i didn't agree or get along with my parents. you're not going to change them either. barking up the wrong tree.
all you can do is change how you cope with the situation you can't change.

they want*

if you don't care about their money then walk out the door and go homeless
you sound insufferable. where your parents fucked up is not disciplining you better

A. they are not housing me. They have on many occasions explicitly told me that they have no interest in financially supporting me through college, and have only done so infrequently. I have been paying for all of my own living expenses. B. The majority of my tuition is being paid for by my grandparents. The issue is that while my grandparents left me that money for my education, they put it in a trust which my parents manage (very poorly).

My one housemate came from a domestic violence situation and has no interest in returning to that. My other room mate cant drive and his parents live too far away from campus to be able to commute regularly.

Imagine living with parents who would sit you down, scream at you every day for not getting straight A's instead of assisting you with homework, pulled you out of advanced placement classes as a punishment, force you to go to the university they graduated from, and then once you get accepted into a program which would pay for your entire degree be told that "you're not working hard enough". I believe I have earned the right to crash out.

your situation isn't special.
how are they supporting you if they're not housing you? if they're giving you something, you're signing a contract to give something back to them.
where do you live in this world that it takes years to find a job?
>>
>>34780110
Their support boils down to allowing me to use money my grandparents left for me as long as I do as they say. Do they care that they may cause me to get evicted? nope. What they are (failing) to give me is access to my inheritance. >>34780110

>where do you live in this world that it takes years to find a job?
I live nearby a rather large city in the Midwest. I have applied to restaurants, to manual labor jobs, to skilled labor jobs that I have credentials for, to coops through my school etc. I have received maybe 2 or 3 calls back 3+ months after the interview. I have lost count on how many jobs I have applied to but on one job searching site alone I applied for 50 jobs, and got 0 interviews. I have also tried calling up and visiting companies in person and I have been denied every single time. The only reason why I got the job that I did get was because my housemate who does not come from a dicey background had a parent who was able to hook me up with a job related to my degree.

next summer you should apply for wildland fire. they start hiring around fall time on usa jobs
depending on region (places usually flexible due to college aged candidates), you'll work 3-6 months and get paid a shit ton of over time that should cover you for school time if you're not stupid.
if not you can always apply to military like national guard or air guard and they will literally pay for your college.
you're in the prime years of your life, and even if you're a ham beast can still work toward either of these as both take in certified fatties all the time. both places are usually desperate for new blood.

I cannot join the military (unless a draft lol) due to several severe joint injuries across my body due to sports. I have considered and actively wanted to though.

Wild-land fire does sound interesting though. I am familiar and comfortable around heat protective gear as I have generally worked as a heavy metal fabricator up until recently. Attempting to go back to school resulted in me losing that job though. It didnt pay well and was far away so whatever. I have applied to similar jobs in the area but no one was hiring.

in wildland fire you're usually getting 50-60 hour weeks plus hazard pay working 5-21 days in a row. depending on the season some areas can be super quiet and you're just sitting around all day hanging with the boys doing fuck all. it's a good time and i highly recommend it.
there's also conservation corps and other gigs the forest service and similar offer. it seems like you need to step out of your zone to find jobs during summer.
im surprised because every place in the midwest i grew up at was hiring like crazy unlike the west coast.
for now it seems like you need to play ball with your parents until you can achieve financial independence. like i said, you aint gonna change them. its a lost cause.
try not to be angry at them and learn to cope yourself without thinking the sky is falling on you. i know you're young and that's still hard, but you'll get past this.
your friends are gonna have to figure it out for now. do what you can to find a job, but parents are there to help you and not them.

Call their bluff. Stay where you are while you job-hunt. They are not going to abandon you.
>>
>>34780012
first problem is sounds like you got a couple of narcs on your hands and that you told your parents you situation - they can use that to manipulate you. greyrock them, give them limited information.
second, apply for unemployment so you have money to pay your rent while you look for a new job. apply for SNAP/use foodbanks if you have no way of paying for food. see if you can apply for anything that can help you cover utilities or rent also.
third, and tying into the last thing, look into your state's local department of labor for finding work.
