Diagnosed with psychotic depression and was put on Zoloft. Had my first psychotic episode last year in August and I'm now recovering from another, milder one.Am I fucked forever in a cycle of relapse and recovery? Doctor didn't say anything but he'll probably put me on antipsychotics later and I'm afraid of the side effects like weight gain.
get yourself on aripiprazole (abilify). its got less side effects because its a third gen antipsychotic
>>34782009To add to this, make sure your doctor doesn't start you on too high of a dose or increase it too quickly. You could develop akathisia which is a living hell. It's less likely with newer antipsychotics like abilify, but it happened to someone I know. Good luck anon, sorry you're experiencing this and I hope things can improve for you

I have schizophrenia and I have learned to know what triggers an episode for me and how to get over it. For me what helps is that I get to a place where I can relax and then I just do nothing, take the medicine and wait for the episode to go away and this usually takes few hours. Antipsychotics made me gain weight because you could eat endlessly. What I do is I just buy a certain amount of food, so that I don't eat all the time. Also remember to exercise.I get about 100-120 episodes a year.
