Is anyone else trying to drink less and just feel like they're white knuckling every "sober" day
I've been drinking the past 15 years just about, the last few months before this I was drinking pretty much every day, my weapon of choice usually being beer. But, I am starting to get very fat. I literally look like a pig in pictures, and none of my clothes fit anymore. It's embarrassing and beer has to go.
But as much as I hate being fat, I fucking hate being sober even more. There's no RELEASE anymore, there's nothing for me to get excited about or that makes me feel good or relaxed
>You're just bored! You need to get some hobbies to fill the time!
IT'S NOT THE FUCKING SAME. I have a bunch of books at home I haven't read. I have a bass guitar I play. Endless catalog of movies and videos at my fingertips. A full free weight gym and boxing gear at my workplace, free to use whenever I want. I don't care about any of it, and none of it makes me feel better. The fact of the matter is there is no sensation on this planet that tickles my brain and scratches my back like a fucking frosty, tasty, delicious bottle of suds does.
Anyone else feel this way, that there's just nothing that replaces the feeling of having your favorite drink? Genuinely, how the fuck do you go on? I can't go back to drinking beer every night, I'll end up weighing 500 lbs at this rate, but holy fuck sobriety FUCKING SUCKS.

For anyone in this thread who is underage or hasn't started drinking yet, DON'T. DON'T DO THIS TO YOUR BRAIN, DON'T EVER TAKE A SINGLE FUCKING SIP OF THAT DEMON IN A BOTTLE. IT WILL HOLD YOU FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE.

Forgot to mention if anyone suggests I try another type of alcohol or weed
>liquor
I don't know why but my body just doesn't react to liquor the same way as beer. If I drink a six pack of a strong porter or a few 211 tallboys I'm happy, sleepy, feeling nice.
Meanwhile I can drink my way through a whole bottle of hard liquor in a night if I'm not careful, I won't be sleepy at all, instead I'll be likely punching holes in walls at 3 am. No hard liquor.
>wine
I've got bad GERD so wine is a no go
>weed
Already smoke weed. If being buzzed is great being crossfaded is AMAZING.

Beer is humanity's oldest recipe. There's something about it that nothing else can quite replicate, humans have felt that way for thousands of years and I'm sure there's a reason for that
>>
I've been sober my entire life so I don't know. I will never drink alcohol in my life.

Weed is also poison. Smoking anything is poison.

Good man, don't ever touch it.
Too bad this doesn't help me as someone who's had a sip of the demon and belongs to it forever now.

No. Fucking fat women is my vice, and pounding plumper pussy is better than being drunk. Hell, getting my dick sucked is infinitely better.

Then you have what is known as an addiction. You have no goals, no future, and no desire beyond your next drink. You need to sit down and get it together, either with a pen and paper or somebody who cares about you, work out what you want in life, besides another beer.

I had to clean up after my alcoholic stepfather. His internal organs couldn't hold in poop for any amount of time so he would always shit the bed, shit in his diaper, shit in his pants and shit on the floor. I was the one who had to clean it up. The house smelled like human feces 24/7. He was an asshole to everybody and tried to physically fight me on 2 separate occasions. I slowly watched him mentally deteriorate over the course of 1 year until he died on new years eve. I never mourned for him, I was relieved and happy he died. I hated that motherfuckers guts.

that's why you don't feel good. you're still overloaded on the hedonic treadmill. you need to give up easy intense instant pleasure for a bit and regular stuff will help you feel good again

He had the opportunity to recieve help for his addiction but he refused. He didn't care so it's impossible for me to feel bad for him. It's the Balkan and Russian culture in my opinion because he was Bulgarian and to be honest no matter if your Russian, Serbian, Croatian, Romanian idgaf, they're all the same.

I have long term life goals, I'm not some loser, I'm a business owner with a STEM PhD who works 10-12 hour days on complicated shit.
That's part of it, beer is a no fuss, no work pleasure in a bottle. At the end of the day, it's there waiting for me and it will always make me feel better even if I had to deal with a shithead client or something (literally) blew up in the field during testing and I go home hot, dirty and disappointed.

Part of me knows this, but hot damn I don't like going through it.

Bullshit. That's not fucking true.

You try AA or any of those other groups? You definitely have an addiction and they call what you're going through being a dry drunk.

I can relate, though I'm a 2-3 nights a week kind of drinker.
I was quite skinny before I started drinking regularly, and it only took about a year for my weight to shoot up to where I am now (~93kg).

It's just so easy to fill in dead time with a 6 pack. If I'm working or doing something I don't feel the urge to drink, but if I've got a free night I almost immediately feel the urge to get a buzz.

OP could very well be me in the future if I let it happen

i quit drinking due to a mindset change. i analyzed my behaviors and basically once i accepted that i only do these things to keep the bad thoughts away i was able to stop. you need to have a reason to be sober, and your "health" alone isnt a good reason because health doesnt actually matter if you are just waiting to die, if you have a goal that you need to be healthy for then thats different. i dont even exert any will power or think about alcohol, i just dont do it.

Literally everyone who drinks too much feels like this when they stop, but many of them manage it successfully. Everyone needs to find their own way through, and I don't know what yours is; but one thing that does occur to me is that every activity you mention - reading, guitar, movies, fitness equipment - is something you do by yourself in your own home. So the first thing you might want to try is going out and doing things with other people.

I don't usually get out of work until like 8 or 9 pm most nights. I've also done a lot of group hobbies in the past and I just never end up fitting in, with anyone. I always get pushed to the periphery, just that weird guy that's always "there." Jiu jitsu, church young adult groups, writing clubs, cosplay groups, it always end up like that. I'm either too autistic or not autistic enough.

And you work 7 days a week? Including mornings?

You're romanticising it. Even when you're hating it's like you love it, you love the passion, you love the self-destruction, the 'tragedy' of it all, even in the way you talk about it. You're watching yourself through the screen of a movie and don't know that it's gonna end with you red and purple all over, not able to catch a breath, and shitting in big goopy piles because you'll be a walking vat of poison. It won't be fun then, or cinematic, or relatable. However it will be too late and you'll drift slowly and embarrasingly toward death.
