I'm looking at either getting a government job at around $100 - $110k a year or a corporate gig potentially $120 - $130k a year. Right now I am only making $60k. Is the government gig worth the reduced salary? Both are in finance, I fucking hate working and corporate culture and feel like being a government shithead still making 6 figures is the way to go.
>>34838916Not an answer to your question I'm just confused how the government job would feel less "corporate" you still have a boss coworkers etc
work for state government. I have worked as a corpo rat, and here's what I can say about the government job:The most obvious advantage of a government job tends to be firing immunity. In corporate jobs, the threshold for a fireable offense is much, much lower, and often, they can just dump you. See the hundreds of famous Zoom/Slack Layoffs. In government, you would only get fired for the most egregious offenses, and even then you would have due process in it. People I know in state government who are managers say they let a lot of bad behavior slide becuase they simply don't have time for the paperwork, meetings, documentation, justification, and other bullshit for a firing. So if you're competent, great, if you are a bit lazy, you can get away with it a bit.Depending on WHAT the government job is, you will also notice less or more diversity bullshit. I work in government finance, we struggle to find "diverse, equitable talent". You may not be working with foreigners at all.
>>34838916Consider this. Government jobs are usually recession proof, have great benefits, have a solid track of progression , and your day ends at 5 on the dot.
