I started going to the gym, running and playing piano. I find myself barely reading any novels as I have less and less time. Also, whenever I do read a novel, I always feel like I am wasting my time. Like I should be out there living and experiencing life instead of sitting in front of a book reading about it.Though I wonder, do you lose anything if you give up /lit/ as a hobby completely?
>>34843991reading helps me think more than anything because the pacing of it is much slower than any other hobby, except going for a walk.do you feel like you're missing out on anything from not doing it? if anything, i'd consider cutting a hobby that you don't enjoy to make time for it or reading before bed.
I hate how reading feels like a massive waste of my time but doomscrolling on the internet feels productive.
>>34844006>>34843996>>34843991Read in bed instead of scrolling you fucking retards. Or read on breaks at work. I have torn through more books on lunches and coffee breaks at work than you've probably read all together this year.
>>34843996I enjoy it but it's not that important to me. Like with piano I have been going all in, taking weekly lessons, practicing daily, studying music theory, reading about music history, listening to recordings. Never have I done that with literature. However, I don't know if I am not missing out on anything if I quit. Like maybe cognitive benefits. I also heard women find it attractive if you read.
>>34844032it sounds like you're not that into it, but you have replaced it with other productive hobbies>women find it attractivepeople that say they read often haven't picked up a book in years. for some it's just a totem or altar that makes them feel good. the vibesjust tell them you read (even if it's only music theory)
>>34843991Reading a book like how to fix a toilet is good. But reading too much self-help is an issue. At some point you just have to go at life.
>>34843991Well, what're you reading? Is it philosophical stuff that gives you a valuable perspective on the world that's worth keeping even past your natural lifetime, or is it foid-monster romanceslop? If there's books out there that would enrich your life even more than the piano practice hours or extra reps it takes to read them, wouldn't it be better to read them instead?
>>34843991When you stop reading as a hobby nothing really happens. You're allowed to change your interests over time. I would argue playing an instrument and exercising are better than reading since you're engaging your brain and body more, though it's not really healthy to think of activities you enjoy like that.
>>34843991Reading novels is for women, children, and effeminate (homosexual) men. The gym and running will turn you in a sexual tyrannosaurus.
>>34843991If you read and haven't started writing then the reading's useless
>>34843991Read on the shitter.
>>34843991>find myself barely reading any novelsNothing will happen, novels are the lowest tier of books.
>>34849732None of this is true.
