I am A+ certified as of today and im not sure what to do next. Do I apply for jobs or build a home lab??
>>34847102get a job
>>34847111Feel like I should do the home lab so I can have some artificial experience
>>34847123Get the job so you can afford the home lab. Simpl'as.
>>34847123>i go to /adv/ to advise others how i want to fuck up my life
>>34847280Any tips on how to get past the AI that looks at resumes
>>34847424Not for AI, and I won't bullshit that I know more beyond the "1pt font full of buzzwords in white text at the bottom" trick. But since it's an IT cert, I will bullshit and say there's two different scenarios you'll probably encounter:>small company, the boomers haven't caught on to AI>which means you'll be doing IT for tech-illiterate boomersor>large company, you get tossed into the resume pool with everyone else (who probably has just as shitty of a resume as you do)>if your DEI resume gets through, at least there's a chance it's not completely full of old people
Be real with me bros, how easy is this to study up for if you've built a couple computers and been a "computer kid" millennial, but never got super into IT or networking stuff much?
>>34849211Im a cybersecurity professional with several mid-tier certifications making six figures.A+ is retarded and gay and is only good for being a help desk monkey. No job I've ever been interested in has listed A+ as a requirement or even a recommendation. Then again, I do cyber and not IT or sysadmin trash, so maybe your job pool is different. Typically though, CompTIA certs suck ass and are only good for getting through boomer low-tier filters. I really cannot imagine that A+ is relevant for anything as of like a decade ago.The decent staple certs that people might actually care about from CompTIA are Net+ and Sec+. If you have those (one or both), you will be much more attractive to employers (even though CompTIA still sucks imo).Dig into whatever specialization you want from there. There are a million certification tier lists on YouTube, watch one. You're going to have to study. You're going to have to memorize, a lot. They can be a pain. The more genuinely interested you are in the material, the "easier" they are (your eyes won't glaze over reading about the dozen different types of fiber optic cabling if youre actually into that somehow).Certs are important in this field. Get them.
>>34849447Can I get in without a degree?Do you have a degree?Have you gotten a new job recently?I really appreciate the advice. I'm in college for a maths degree at 32 but it's just an associates and I know it's a joke, I just want an excuse to be a NEET with my parents for a bit and learn the higher maths I always felt was necessary for true enlightenment. But I know it won't get me a job. So I need to be looking at something that will.
>>34849521>Can I get in without a degree?Depends where you want to work. Some places yes, other places no. Anything related to the government definitely requires a degree, hard stop, unless you already have multiple years of relevant experience. A degree always helps, regardless. Unless you have a solid track record of building projects on your own and a relevant work history, of if you already have a handful of good-quality certs, my opinion is that you should probably get the degree.>Do you have a degree?yeGraduate degrees aren't really necessary btw unless you want to be management. If you want to remain technical, the only thing that matters after a Bachelor's is certs.>Have you gotten a new job recently? Not really. I'm very happy doing what I do where I am. I know this means I'm pretty lucky considering what I've heard about most of the job market these days.>I'm in college for a maths degree at 32dude>just an associatesdude>I just want an excuse to be a NEETafter reading this I regret typing anything up for you at all but it's too late now, might as well still send this>learn the higher maths I always felt was necessary for true enlightenmentyou're 32. if you actually cared you would've already learned them.how the fuck is your current situation or desires even relevant to the first set of questions you asked. I hate you. stop fucking around and do something with your life man. i'm several years younger than you
>>34847102Congratulations OP! Me too! I've looking for even a basic shitty helpdesk job all across the country for months now. Welcome to the boat.As I study for my network+ as if that'll make any difference in this hellscape, I find this is a joke compared to the A+, and were I to get a job in it I'd probably pick it all pretty quickly. So all I need is the job. Then I can have the experience.....oh well back to the void.Maybe we should look into being electricians next.
>>34849675I just got tired of wagecucking for 50k a year and not being able to afford anything. I had no idea what to do next.>if you actually cared you would've already learned them.True. I thought when I got a full-time wagie job it would give me the structure in my life to study on my own. Instead it just drained all my energy.>If you want to remain technical, the only thing that matters after a Bachelor's is certs.I'll see if I can even afford a bachelor's at this point. The only reason I'm getting an associates' is because I used CLEP to skip half the classes. But that only applies for basic bullshit.
