How do I stop saying 'errrrrr' before every sentence when I'm speaking to people?
>>34849970My 8th grade history teacher gave us the best advice I’ve ever had>instead of saying uhhhh or ummm or wellll or some other type of filler word>just be silent for a moment and don’t fill itLiterally just pause before speaking. Even a long-ish pause before starting makes you seem significantly less stupid than filler words, especially starting with one. Seemed like it worked for other people too because class speeches in his class sucked a little less after that.
>>34849979It's simple but it makes sense, I probably need to practice just pausing before talking
>>34849990He played us this video where Nixon was getting asked questions and he started every answer with>WELLLLThen teacher cut out the sound for that word and just made it silent before letting the answer continue. Nixon sounded so much more intelligent it was unreal. I’m not complimenting Nixon at all, just saying that the difference was massive.
>>34849970Take a (somewhat) deep breath before you start talking. Practice a little in front of the mirror, think of a few questions and what you would answer. Take a deep breath, then remember that you're not supposed to start with "errr", then start speaking when you know what you want to say.
>>34849970Try tongue twisters and just generally speak more trying to not do errrr
>>34849979This. People overestimate how long pauses feel to the other party. If you pause then it actually grabs the other person’s attention. Another thing is while thinking, it’s a good idea to think about the wording you want to use instead of the idea you want to convey
>>34849970Remove your tonguetongue tongue Sahur
>>34849970Just say it for a short duration. Like, um. Not uuuuuuuuuuuuhhhhhhhhhhhh
