There's a really cute girl who was my coworker for almost a year and quit the job a couple weeks ago. She's very shy and introverted, but she slowly warmed up, started chatting with me and everyone else more, and we would end up hanging out on breaks a lot. She gave me her number a few months ago and we added each other on Steam and played games a couple times. She definitely enjoys being around me, I make her laugh a lot, and we have some common interests.

But I've always written off the idea that she wants to be anything more than friends. She's Mormon (not just Mormon in name only, she actually goes to church and stuff) and I figured that meant there's no way she would want to date me since they often stick to their own. I know there are exceptions, but I just assumed I had no shot because of this.

Then a few days ago I get a text from another coworker saying I should ask the girl out. Apparently a bunch of our friends all think she's is interested in dating me, but no one mentioned it to me until now. So I texted her and said we should grab lunch one of these days and catch up. She said yes and we're planning on next weekend.

Here's the thing though. I never mentioned the word "date", so I'm still not sure if she's actually attracted to me in a non-platonic way; this could just be a lunch with a friend in her eyes for all I know (we've never had lunch together btw). So I guess my question is: when we go out to lunch, how should I test the waters to get a feel for how she actually feels about me? I don't wanna just bluntly ask if she likes me. It's difficult because I've been in situations before where I thought a girl was giving all the signs she was into me: clearly enjoyed my company, laughed at all my jokes... but it turns out she was not only already taken, but was a lesbian. I guess I've been traumatized by the friendzone and I don't trust my own senses anymore.

When dating people of different religions the idea both people have is that they will be able to convert the other.

Mormons are annoying as fuck though, so I definitely wouldnt bother trying to "fix" her or whatever. Just decline and dodge yourself a bullet.

What the fuck is this wall of text this nigga is writing just to self sabotage?
>We love each other's company but...
Fuck you.
Just get between her legs and act like a man for once.

That's assuming you actually believe that shit, which oftentimes people don't.

This is a layup, she told someone she likes you already and they are helping hook it up. I had a coworker tell me some girl was into me and asked her out we dated and lived together for 3 years.

That did cross my mind as a possibility. I feel like it could just be people gossiping though.

Just ask

I will if I need to, because I need to get an answer either way, but bluntly asking would be really awkward if it turns out the answer is no

There is exactly one reliable way to tell whether a girl likes you or not, and that's to ask her out.

How exactly would you word it?

figure out what half-way is for you and don't go beyond it. If she's shown some interest in a non-mormon then you can make a good-faith assumption that she's not out to change you and just likes you. Women are vulnerable to the group and generally are quite willing to forgo romance if it doesn't tick her group's preferences. I don't wanna piss on your hopes but I recommend you shoot your shot with the kind of confidence that abandon grants.

if she didn't ask someone to hook you two up she admitted to someone she likes you and they spilled the beans. Go for it bro, the worst that could come of the mormon thing is you have to wear magic underpants and get a second wife.
