Why do people get drunk and become alcoholics if alcohol tastes horrible and causes physical discomfort?

>>34856054Some alcohol tastes great (I like dark beers), but the physical effects of more than a few standard drinks are unpleasant for me. I really just like a beer for taste occasionally. Different people react differently.
>>34855958For me it started as peer pressure and then led to addiction. 1 week sober today.
Alcohol makes you feel great, you might just be drinking it wrongand a lot of it tastes good, cold beer on warm day is one of tastiest thing in the world, lots of wines are delicious, champagne is great, a lot of drinks are awesome (I think screwdriver tastes better than regular orange juice, whiskey coke better than regular cola, in fact most juices taste better with a bit of vodka) and alcohol makes everything fun and interesting, the most boring movie in the world is suddenly fun, time moves faster, anxiety gone you just feel good the entire timebut obviously effects diminish when you drink too much but thats the catch, you slowly feel less good so you drink more chasing that initial high when what you shouldve done is taken a break and refreshed before drinking again
>>34856054>>34856123>it makes you feel gooooodhow do you niggers feel good by having your head hurt?I drink a glass of wine along some stake and my head throbs with pain, even from less it hurts like a motherfucker, so how do you masochists even feel "wonderful"?>>34856074I guess some alcohol has an interesting taste that goes well with food, but by itself it sucks
>>34856170seems you just have bad genes. my condolences. i don't really get headaches unless i drink way more than I should (like, half of a bottle of liquor). if i drink in moderation being drunks makes me feel warm, slightly numbs my physical sensations, and clouds my brain in a good way.also, in my experience, alcohol is an acquired taste. took me a little while to start actually enjoying whiskey and brandy. but i've always liked lighter stuff like wine, beer and cider.
>>34856188>bad genesI don't know how BAD it is TO NOT WASTE THOUSANDS OF DOLLARS ON ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES FOR SOME SHITTY BUZZsame goes with other things, like nicotine products, or any other type of "make me feel gooood" productsman was meant to eat fruit and meats and drink crystal clear water, you can mix those, like making juice, but everything else is against man's biology
>>34856205literally incorrectalcohol, or more specifically food and beverages that contain ethanol, contains nutrients and calories. we (along with several other animals including bats, chimps and insects) have evolved to be capable of consuming alcohol comfortably.humans in particular have been capable of digesting ethanol for about 10 million years. https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC4299227/you can make the argument that distilled liquor is "unnatural" but fermented beverages absolutely are.
>>34855958Because I want to gain weight but not exercise
>>34856215alcohol, like beer and whiskey or anything else made out of seeds or distilled, sucks ballscider, like apple cider, is alright and a glass doesn't make my head hurt because it isn't an alcoholic beverage with vanilla, like whiskey is, it's fruit juice with naturally occurring alcohol
>>34855958To become an alcoholic you have to cross a certain thresholdWith cigarettes, coffee, porn etc the threshold is crossed instantly, you consume it once and you want to consume it the next dayAlcohol by default makes you feel shitty but if you get unlucky and make bad choices you quickly get to that point where you are drinking more than you should
>>34855958People prone to alcoholism experience alcohol differently because of how their body consumes it. It has a weird energizing effect and feels more enjoyable overall. Also imo they tend to have less hobbies or cognitively intense interests in their off time, so generally being impaired is less of an issue for them. They're not necessarily dumber, instead they are often more extraverted and people-oriented with their interests.
>>34855958I'm not an alcoholic but I like getting drunk every now and then. When my motor control is off balance and I slightly miss things, it's funny. Acting like an actual retard is funny and comfy. Sometimes I puke, but even that's fun and funny. Cleaning up after that is funny too because it's dumb as fuck. I drink water so it doesn't give hangovers for now.
>>34855958>alcohol tastes horribleIt doesn't.
>>34855958Alcohol tastes good and doesnt affect everyone physically the same way. There are people who barely get hangovers or just have a naturally high pain tolerance. Alcohol frees inhibitions, give you a big boost of dopamine, and is mildly psycho active substance that depresses the central nervous system causing your thoughts to slow down relieving some anxiety in the process.
>>34855958They needa cognitively impair themselves to not have to face reality
