i hate the people who say "just do this even if you hate it"
like normal people are retarded in that aspect its like asking a "normal" person to cry for hours and stay rotting in bed, they cant do it they are too "happy" and cheerful
i wanna be happy too, a small mistake fucks me up
i had a shitty encounter 24 hours ago and i still cant get over it im so fucking sad i dont feel like seeing anyone or letting anyone see me
i dont even have an interpersonal support net to help me feel better, its so fucking tough

story time. lets hear it.
>>
>>34862176
I can relate to this perfectly anon san.

I took ssri's for like 7 years in my 20s and 30s, then eventually decided they weren't helping and quit them. I started to realise I never needed them and that they'd messed my life up. I became more aware of myself and sorted out some problems I had through sheer desire and will power and realising some truths.

10 years later I got to a point where I was fucking miserable and hated my life. Despite being better off meds in terms of feeling like I ws more my true self, my life was a disaster and I was tortured by thoughts of events that not only happened a day ago, but YEARS ago. I couldn't control myself, my mood would randomly be awful no matter what I did.

Eventually I was so lost I decided to take meds again, something I swore I'd never do and that I believed were poison and mind control drugs. Guess what? Instant improvement.

Now I realise that over those past 10 years what actually happened was I went quite insane. I thought I'd gotten better but I hadn't. To be fair, I DID actually get a deeper understanding of myself and improved my sense of accepting myself and being happy with who I am, but everything else was just fucked up. Now I'm a lot better and the best thing is, I don't remember shit that pissed me off and then spend hours or days being tortured by it.

I think I've always needed ssri's. I will probably always take them. Looking back at some of my behaviour off meds, I think I was completely fucked up, but weirdly it made sense to me at the time. I suppose when you're mentally and emotionally unwell, you think differently and bad shit seems different.

I'd recommend taking meds, 100%. It's not your fault, sometimes people's brains and bodies just work differently in response to life and you need some medicine to sort it out. Tbh we're really, incredibly lucky that we're alive now when they have this medicine. 100 years ago you'd just be fucked and that's that.
>>
>>34862176
>i dont even have an interpersonal support net to help me feel better
Can relate. Currently live in a place where I don't know anyone except coworkers and have no friends. (checked out socially years ago and have been trying to move, obstacles kept coming up, stayed longer for a job)
When you have no friends to socialize with, one shitty encounter, just a scowl, a nasty remark, or road rage bs just fucking sticks with you.
>>
>>34862394
Opposite effect for me. I had a heartbreak over oneitis 10 years ago. Psych recommended SSRIs, I took them for one year. There was a before and after. Before I used to be a snarky cowardly guy. After I was a deadpan analytic autist. After taking them, I hardly ever felt achievement, wonder, purpose, and as stress piles up, the happy days are becoming cyclic fluctuations, my mood is on the tip of getting pissed and dunking to hopelessness, and recovery comes after 3 days of not doing anything or trying a new thing, though new things to try have run out.

I wish I had NEVER taken. I now understand there exists noxious advice (e.g. academic excellence, romantic love), there exist noxious omissions (avoiding to talk with children about relationships or their feelings), there exist noxious circumstances (extremely competitive fields like medicine, olympic sports), and that there exists NO help, no natural empathy towards depression and dyssocialization, no institutionalized help, and broad treatments for excusing these (antidepressants, CBT, blaming fault on the patient for not recovering).

My strongest with is to have a child and to raise him without all this shit. That's the only way I imagine to make sense of this suffering, the only way to prove I lived and how I lived was important, and that the obsessive love my parents gave me wasn't just a clumsy mistake.
>>
>>34862176
It never gets better, I just try to make it until bedtime everyday without killing myself, wake up and repeat.
>>
>>34862176
Yep it started in high school, but didn't really crush me til I was in early 20s. There was nothing wrong with me, no experience or circumstances to blame, just how my brain works. Went on meds, the first ones worked ok, but made me tired all the time. Talked to Dr again and got a different one that had no side effects beyond some manageable sex stuff (if I kept at it I probably could have fixed all side effects but it didn't bother me. Male btw). Worked great.
Did that for 5 years, then wanted to get off them once life was in order. That went ok too, though I did become an alcoholic as well, so perhaps that's related? Probably not, it's genetic, but it probably didn't help.
Went on them again when went through another rough patch, then off again once life stabilized. I probably should have just stayed on them but that's being a sperg for ya.
Oh, lifting helps a lot with anxiety. Diet and exercise are not a meme.
So anyway if you're like most depressives, diet, exercise and meds should work. If not, then psychedelic therapy looks promising for med resistant issues. There are good, accessible, affordable options once you decide to get the ball rolling.
>>
>>34862491
>Don't go on meds for a year just cuz of a breakup
Fixed that for you
>>
>>34862394
>Now I realise that over those past 10 years what actually happened was I went quite insane
>Looking back at some of my behaviour off meds, I think I was completely fucked up, but weirdly it made sense to me at the time.
Very relatable. I went through a year long mental breakdown before finally seeing a psychiatrist, and on a whim at that. She gave me the checklist to fill out, and when she diagnosed me with GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) on top of the obvious major depression I doubted her judgment, because how the hell could I have anxiety when I can function normally around people? Then when the Lexapro kicked in a couple months later it was like "Oh, so THIS is how I'm supposed to feel."
Admittedly it didn't do much for the depression, but going from an almost daily occurrence of nervous breakdowns, 30+ minute crying fits, constant thoughts of escape, and heart palpitations, to a baseline level of serenity, it puts a LOT of shit in perspective. It also made me realize that I was not, in fact, functioning normally around people; it only seemed that way to me because what went on behind closed doors was so much worse.
>>34862176
It doesn't make a lot of sense when you're in the middle of it, but depression / anxiety really is a mental illness, in the pathological sense. It fucks with your brain and personality just as much as a bad flu does. Consequently, it is usually not something you can get over just by toughening up.
Try both meds and therapy, the meds should hopefully pick you up enough for you to find a support net while you're in therapy.
>>
Meds and therapy. I also had a good friend that helped me.
>>
>>34862558
How did your friend help you? I wanna be there for someone but I'm not entirely sure how
>>
>>34862539
Fair, Like every disingenuous retarded thing in my life there's reasons for it. I was studying medicine, guy who prescribed me was my professor. Medicine is that kind of shit where everyone is a firm believer on the poisons they hand out and think side effects are a matter of bad luck, also it's a culture of toughening out shit because the most important thing is to get the job done. I had been oneitising this girl for 5 years, because I thought she was the love of my life, even though she found a boyfriend on 2nd year of that, probably tired of waiting for me, and she must have married him, they never separated. Seeing them together happily made me so suicidal, and her last name was the same as mine so she was next to me in every list, I couldn't get rid of her. Maybe I could have dropped a year and she'd have been my superior but whatever.
>>
>>34862176
>i dont even have an interpersonal support net to help me feel better, its so fucking tough
That is tough anon. There must be someone that you can talk to. One family member, one friend. No man is an island.
> i had a shitty encounter 24 hours ago and i still cant get over it im so fucking sad i dont feel like seeing anyone or letting anyone see me
The modern scientific theory is that there are 2 types of depression, anxiety depression and depression without anxiety. Yours sounds like the anxiety type
Take control of your nervous system by any means you can find (not alcohol). Do not spend too much time inside your four walls, it just makes you more anxious and you start to see everyone as your enemy.
If you were less anxious you would likely feel way more positive about life. We are generally a happy species.
Btw the bright side of loneliness is that if you are super lonely, that also means you could become super focused, as in "depression can't hit a moving target"
You can try going into a different mental state where you do what you "should" do 24/7
>i hate the people who say "just do this even if you hate it"
like normal people are retarded in that aspect its like asking a "normal" person to cry for hours and stay rotting in bed, they cant do it they are too "happy" and cheerful
Do not do things if they feel meaningless. Maybe people mean well with you but all they're really saying is that you're going to need money at the end of the day.
But being an adult means always doing things on your own terms and at your own risk. If you cannot be happy right now even if you try, and you HAVE to try, then do something that makes you happy. It's your life.
>>
>>34862176
i believe fucking a hot woman is the cure to a man's depression. i mean imagine if you had margot robbie naked in your bed. would you be a sad, depressed doomer? obviously not.
>>
>>34862176
I got over my depression by making inward changes. For example, rather than obsessing over my mistakes as if they were something negative, I remind myself that a mistake made is a lesson learned. Now, I'm grateful for the mistakes I made in the past because they taught me not to behave that way in the future. Wishing you hadn't made a mistake is irrational, because that's the same as wishing that you hadn't learned. It's wishing to be in the same state of ignorance you were in prior to making the mistake, which guarantees that you will make the mistake once again. There are logical solutions like that to all of life's difficulties, even death.
>>
>>34862176
I've gotta sleep so I'm not gonna type everything out but I used to frequently get catatonically depressed but managed to work my way out of it. Decided that trying to make a change was the only good option and gradually learned to stop giving in to my depressive thoughts and combat them whilst working on the corcumstances in my life that contributed to my depressive state
You need a belief that things could be better if you make the effort
>>
I've had/have an anxiety disorder that I assumed was depression. Going to a therapist helped a lot. It wasn't a silver bullet and I'm not "healed", but I'm leagues better than I would be if I hadn't started going
>>
>>34863507
how did you realise it was anxiety and not depression?
>>
>>34863839
my therapist helped me diagnose it and yeah, the symptoms sound a lot more fitting. I also have that feeling of not wanting to leave bed in the morning or whatnot on some days. But one of the big indicators of anxiety are the attacks. In my case it's just heavy heart pounding for a prolonged period of time or pain in my chest or stomach if it gets real bad.
The reason I went to a therapist was basically just "I feel like absolute shit and can't see how I can go on like this much longer" plus having a sibling who had a very positive experience with therapy and had been trying to convince me to for a year or so with me being mostly too proud and/or not wanting to admit to myself how bad of a state I was in.
>>
I'm perpetually numb and not on ssris anymore, havent been on em since 2015. occasionally the depression breaks through to feel something.

idk maybe my brain is permastuck in anhedonia
>>
>>34863900
>too proud
why does this make me laugh
>>
>>34867664
It's spot on. A superiority complex and an inferiority complex are two sides of the same coin. Excessive feelings of inferiority cause an excessive desire to outgrow your current self.
That's generally a healthy thing but it becomes too much it stifles real improvement and feeds delusions. If "too proud" makes you laugh, read it as "too ashamed" because it is the same emotion.
>>
>>34867706
I don't need to be lectured by someone who mixes up being lazy with depression. save your words for your therapist or when you can't get out of bed next time
>>
>>34867790
And I won't get fooled by someone who claims to have beat depression by getting out of bed, you anti therapist
>>
>>34867706
>superiority complex and an inferiority complex are two sides of the same coin
you can romanticise it however you want. the term you're looking for is NPD. guess you'll need a few more years to understand what is really going inside of you. take your time
>>
>>34867907
I am not romanticising it, and you can call it narcissism if you want. I am talking about psychological phenomena that can cause anxiety and depression.
But calling it narcissism does not make it better, it's just yet another word that makes it sound like one is consciously being evil.
>>
>>34862176
I have had Major Depressive Disorder for years now, but never once have I been "sad" or felt bad about my "mistakes." The thing I regret most in life, is showing someone an album I now think is trash.
I don't really know what emotion "abject suffering" is, but I have felt that one quite a bit.
What ended up helping me was taking nortriptyline.
Now I don't feel "abject suffering" anymore but I still feel empty.
You should probably just get on nortriptyline.
>>34862394
Broskie, get the hell off of SSRIs what are you doing man? You realize that they have withdrawals right? They hardly even work too. Your probably just addicted or something.
>>
>>34862176
Quit bitchin bout muh depression
The fuck are you so sad about
Specifically
>>
>>34867624
why?
>>
>>34868900
>get the hell off of SSRIs what are you doing man?
nta but why get off ssris? i would say most of us retards have some sort of ocd or tend to ruminate on bs, doesnt ssris help with that specifically?
its the only reason i have been contemplating starting it
>>
>>34862425
i love how every word you said resonated with me i wish we were friends
>>
>>34863303
That's the point of depression, you should feel happy with a beautiful woman in your bed but you just don't. Because that's how depression works
>>
>>34863303
Funny enough that's actually scientifically true to an extent. Turns out people produce chemicals that are ment for the opposite sex that effects a persons mood. Best way to get it is from physical touch and specially sex. Sucking on a titty literally cures depression.
>>
>>34862176
Yes. Never got better I sit in bed all day and give people bad advice.
>>
>>34870864
Do something else for a change. I mean the main reason you are here is boredom. Not saying you don't have other problems
>>
>>34868900
>get the hell off of SSRIs what are you doing man? You realize that they have withdrawals right? They hardly even work too
are you talking from experience or just random baseless shit you read on fourchan?
>>
>>34870878
But I'm too depressed to do anything
>>
>>34871417
Then do meth or something. If you always do what you always did you'll always get what you always got + you're gonna get random health issues in your 40s no matter what you do anyway
>>
>>34871417
find a nice person in your local hippie commune and ask them to be your tripsitter. then take a heroic dose of mushrooms.
thats all I got for you really (you will be cured)
>>
>>34871427
>>34871429
I did drugs when I was younger. Mushrooms definitely made my life worse. Meth is nasty but I wish I could get on adhd uppers that might get me going.
>>
>>34871608
yeah, calling cap on that one.
a recent clinical trial with 350 or so people resulted in 91% of them reporting significant improvements for their mild to severe ptds, depression and anxiety symptoms after 1 month after just 1 dosis.

a small percentage of people dont take them well but you have tripsitters for that and they arent addicitve. if they dont work (low odds) just dont take them again.

also, if you take them in a bad context and without a proper tripsitter etc, it of course worsens the effects
>>
>>34871622
NTA but I lemon tek'd a 4.7g dose of albino penis envy shrooms with the intent of facing my inner demons but all i really did was piss myself on the couch, live entire timelines of my life forwards and backwards, with pangs of contextless emotion flying by at memories i hadn't actually formed from those timelines. later i associated solid colors with certain timelines and negative/positive emotions attached to whatever timeline fuckin' teal meant.

we're on 4ch grabbing shrooms off of craigslist and taking them in our shitty rooms, not in a controlled clinical environment. i could've airbnb'd some remote cabin a state or two away, but i probably would've aped out/lost touch with reality even harder than i did in my house
>>
>>34871622
I'm really against tripping as a solution. If you're trolling then good job. But the whole Joe Rogan bullshit like microdose curing everything good way to bring on the mental illness. From experience if you do mushrooms enough times it gets like drinking but more volatile. It's wasteoid cope to think that is helping.
>>
>>34871779
i dont care what you are against you dumb redneck retard. taking a heroic dose for therapeutic effects is also vastly different to "joe rogan microdosing" you disingenous, anti intellectual faggot.

>Just one month after the dose, 92.2 percent of participants said the experience had been beneficial, while, on average, their mental health symptoms had fallen dramatically.
>After three months, the proportion of participants reporting moderate-to-severe PTSD symptoms had fallen from 48 percent to 16.8 percent. Moderate-to-severe anxiety fell from 45.1 percent to 13.2 percent over the same timeframe, while moderate-to-severe depression fell from 42.2 percent to 16.5 percent. Meanwhile, life satisfaction rose from 63 percent to 82.3 percent across the cohort.

meanwhile there is thousands of vets already taking psilocybin to alleviate their PTSD and depression successfully while you sit here and cry about joe rogan like a tranny.

>>34871706
getting a nice calm place to lie down and a tripsitter thats not afraid to hold you if necessary arent negotiable.
psilocybin will rearrange your nervous symptom and alleviate your symptoms permanently if dosed properly for 9/10 people.

that said you could always just start exercising every day. we already know that exercising is more effective than any anti depressant.
>>
>>34871809
ok you glownigger timothy leary sped I told you I already have taken mushrooms before but..

The only reason SSRIs were able to get FDA approved is because we didnt have laws against failing to report clinical trials until 2007.
The pharmaceutical companies just did enough clinical trials to the point they were able to round up a few with seemingly good results, pushed those, then those SSRIs got FDA approved and we never went back and retested them.
A lot of datasets relating to SSRIs are also manipulated in this manner even modern ones since those restrictions dont really apply to just studies alone and mainly to FDA approvals.

TLDR, its bullshit they hardly work better than placebos, its a complete scam.
>>34870892
I had Major depressive disorder for years.
I have been on many, many types of headache relief and antidepressants and treatments. Probably around 30 different pills in total. Obviously including SSRI's. And nortriptyline is the only thing that one, actually worked. And two, doesnt need 2 goddamn months to "reach its full effect." It works on day one.
>>
>>34871809
I don't know why you are shilling shrooms so hard when the average NEET can't source it, let alone find someone patient and understanding enough to watch them throw up and babble childishly for six hours. Either the NEET so happens to have a circle of emotionally available and deeply understanding friends, happy to potentially contain anon shitting on their own balls and screaming gibberish, or $$$$ for a clinic in Oregon that will underdose you and make you listen to Stars of the Lid.

Yeah just give me the exercise suggestion instead, I'd rather not look at my pillow and think about false timeline #4,317,332 where my cleft lip firstborn I had with my girlfriend at 40 kicks a soccer ball into a Vermont backyard (his mother died in childbirth)

I remember junior year of high school where I made literal pamphlets advocating for all sorts of psychoactive substances. I know better now, because I lived it. do you?
>>
Retardery all around me.

Look, everyone. SSRI's were designed SOLELY to allow people who were not stable enough to respond better to psychotherapy. That's all.
Looking for a cure with drugs is gay and retarded. The fix comes from building a mental environment where your idiot impulses and thoughts are immediately tempered by reality and can be identified as unreasonable. This, therapy, and possibly the use of SSRI's if your condition is such that you need mood stabilization, is how depression is addressed.
Not being motivated to actually fix yourself is a common problem. However, there is no solution without addressing that.
>>
>>34872663
I was just throwing it out there. if I was desperate enough Id seek out a way to make it happen. pay an empathic service worker for a day, find a nice airbnb with greenery. there is ways.

again tho all research and evidence suggest that for 9 out of 10 people, its a healing experience.
you were either the 1 in 10 or you had a wrong dose, a fucked up environment or were too psychotic at the time of taking it.

either way, what the fuck are you doing? its like if someone with lactose intolerance told everyone else to stop drinking milk.
>>
>>34872709
yeah true your post reeks of "retardery" or lets just call it retardation.
what are ssris? they are fucking drugs you dumb cornball faggot.
psychoactive drugs are to the brain what painkillers are to the body. there is nothing wrong with trying them.

that said the easiest and healthiest solution is daily rigorous exericse, which is proven to work better than any anti depressant or mood stabilizer ever did.
>>
>>34870864
>and give people bad advice.
theres solace in knowing others will be as terrible as you
>>
>>34873218
>that said the easiest and healthiest solution is daily rigorous exericse, which is proven to work better than any anti depressant or mood stabilizer ever did.
how can you do said rigorous exercise when you dont want to? are you too stupid to understand that wanting something, and being able to is not the same

its like asking someone w psychosis or ocd to not act upon their thoughts or feelings. do you realize how stupid you sound?
>>
>>34873449
>how can you do said rigorous exercise when you dont want to?
Nta but if you‘re serious you are really leaving zero room for personal responsibility which is circular logic. It is the easiest thing in the world to put on running shoes and just do for 30 minutes what your body evolved to do for several hours per day. Just do it
>>
>>34873449
trust me I know from personal experience how hard it is to get started.
which is why I fully endorse using drugs to do so.
cannabis turns me from a near dead corpse into a hyperactive jumping jack for example, and the dopamine from the resulting workout usually lingers for at least 24-48 hours. you are telling me thats not worth something? meanwhile y ou are sitting here calling drugs retarded and telling people to take OTHER DRUGS (ssris) and consult a therapist for 20 sessions first.
fuck off retard

I know thag its a fucking obvious statement but its all in your head. In our times people just rely on meds and someone else to treat/cure their problems when in reality you are the one person that can canquer them.
Meds are for clinicly depressed, while you should seek some help (preferably from friends/parter) so there some positivity in your life, the one that can change the status quo is you.
Dealing with it without meds is hard work, but after you manage to overcome this by yourself, you get some sort of immunity, like when you conquer the sickness.
I dont know if it last for the whole life, I dont think so, but as of now, after like 10y after Ive beat it, I didnt expirience anything like it despite being in bad times numerous times.
>>
Not sure it was "proper" depression since I never had it diagnosed, but I had a period over around a year or two, where my mood would plummet for hours every day. The reason I think it was depression rather than just feeling bad, is that it had no obvious cause, my life was great all things considering. And it didn't feel natural, my mood felt forcibly suppressed, like the opposite of how drugs make it feel forcibly elevated.

Anyway, yes, I did get better. One advice I can give is to avoid vices that make you feel good for a while. Like alcohol, drugs, porn, doomscrolling etc. Yes it sucks to avoid them if you're used to it, but it does help. You don't have to quit cold turkey, just gradually reduce your exposure.
