Can anons share their experiences with ssri's (antidepressants)? I had a medical assessment today and after an hour of divulging my symptoms and counter intuitive coping mechanisms, I was prescribed Zoloft and to take half a tablet initially every morning to mitigate depression/anxiety. The doctor mentioned you'll have anxiety fluctuations and side effects at the beginning but which will dissipate as you return to equilibrium, I was also prescribed 1mg of lorazepam to take up to 3 times a day to treat anxiety/panic symptoms. I have an appointment next week where I'll ask for zopiclone for initiating sleep, my questions are has Zoloft personally significantly helped you with mental clarity, and combating overwhelming depression? Has it also allowed your anxiety to subside? I believe it takes 2 months to reach desired effects after diligent routine dosing, lastly, how bad was the initial side effects before your brain adjusts to the chemical reaction? I've heard horror stories about ssri's and positive benefits too, it doesn't have to exclusively be Zoloft although it does pertain to what I'm starting tomorrow morning. Just experiences with antidepressants in general are welcomed and how it impacted your livelihood, the benzo is a relatively weak dose but isn't a long term solution anyhow, if it prevents anxiety/panic attacks as I get accustomed to the antidepressant I'm all for it, would it also be wise to attend therapy as I take these medications? I've had a dark and troubled past with severe addictions because of baggage and live as a shut in so this approach is probably warranted
Never taken them. I have devoted a ton of time to trying to figure out how to lower my anxiety and these have some theoretical promise to them but I have basically never heard a good report on them anecdotally. Never heard of someone say like "once I started SSRIs I started a successful buisness or got a hot girlfirend and I owe it to the meds". Just literally never heard that shit one time in my life. You always just hear that it makes you a docile good boy and okay with living a shitty life.

>>34867280I know doctors have a proclivity of handing them out like candy, but I'm out of options. I have no motivation or will power, heavily isolated and have no quality of life, I drink liquor and use substances to cope with monotonous, mundane dreay existence that is my life. I also have suicidal ideation fairly frequent, I know obviously you gotta exercise and diet, pick up a hobby and seek employment yadda yadda but I literally can't find the strength to get out of bed in the morning. This isn't the typical meme mental health that teens spout. I just want to feel normal
>>34867337who is funding your rot?tell them to stop
>>34867337If you have money you can get ketamine treatments online. It costs about 100 dollars a dose and you would do a 5 week course dosing once a week so 5 hundred fucking dollars. I think it has a lot better odds of actually helping you but its probably better ROI to just go get a script for zoloft and try that out and then move on to more expensive shit. You can also grow magic mushrooms for like 200 dollars and try that. Its more powerful than ketamine but frankly I find them just a bit too scary I think "ego death" would send me into a massive panic attack. And I realize starting a mushroom farm in your closet is a bit of an undertaking for a depressed faggot
>>34867376Free gibs sustain me for now >>34867386I've done ketamine recreationally before but never in a treatment setting, it goes beyond my budget as of now unfortunately but something to consider. Yeah I don't fuck with weed or psychedelics because pot makes me delusional/suicidal/severe anxiety until the high wears off and I have this inkling that I'll be stuck in a bad trip if I pursued that avenue, I won't even tempt it if I can't even handle weed.

>>34867257SSRI's dont work. Stop taking it, get off of it. The side effects aren't worth the nonexistant positive effects.
>>348672572 months for desired effects is cope because people normally stop being depressed by then. You are being prescribed useless bullshit, 2 months for a drug to kick in is retarded nonsense it doesnt work. Straight up.
>>34867439Do 50mg of nortriptyline a day. 25 in the morning and in the night. This is my routine and it works perfectly with no side effects or withdrawals.
Being a NEET is hurting you more than anything else. I will actually chime in to play devil's advocate: For someone who can't change their situation but is extremely unhappy, SSRIs are a life preserver. They dope you up a bit, and numb you a bit. That job a guy hates but needs to pay his mortgage becomes a job he only mildly dislikes. At the same time, the garden he tended is going to get less effort put into it, and the tomatoes he grows won't taste as sweet or provide as much satisfaction. >>34867386DO NOT fuck around with psilocybin if you're in even slightly a bad place, ESPECIALLY alone. Shrooms can be amazing or they can be a nightmare. I don't want OP locked in hell for a hundred years with his demons without a support person to help him out of that trip.
This same fucking thread was made a few days ago with the exact same fucking question and I replied to it. Ffs just take the ssris.

>>34867257>got diagnosed with depression twice>both times I decided to fuck the meds that I got prescribed (ssri) after buying it one time and reading about them>wife got prescribed zoloft because she had bad time and few things just added up>she knew my stand but she wanted to try them anyway>decided that she needs to learn it herself/hard way and I wont gonna forbid her because I really couldnt make her try different approach>she takes 1 dose and have serotonin attack>she always was very weak when it comes to all drugs that change brain chrmistry, but this is another level>she had panic attacks, was sweating like a mf and overall felt terrible for 2-3 months and it lingers another 2 months with brainzaps anterward>ive to babysit and care for her for like 4-5months and it tested our relationshipI was sure of her so I didnt even thought about separation, but man, it was hard time. All because I didnt stuck to mu gut and let her take it despite my knowledge.Dont take ssri, even if youre not as easly fucked by it like some people (really, reaserch support groups of people that got their lives fucked up because they are geneticly prone to have similar reaction, people that take one or couple doses got their life fucked for few months), they just mask your emotion/feelings so you can become a npc. They dont improve your life, theyre just a cure for submit to current society.Ssri have their place, when we talk about clinical depresion, you know like 10% of the overall cases, but doctors decided that prescribing them to anyone, just because they have bad moods is totaly fine. Ofc its money-related and anyone who will tell you otherwise is lying, ignorant or just using mental gymnastic.

>>34867257You should not use benzodiazepines regularly for more than a month unless you know for certain your condition is chronic. The problem with taking them as needed is that you don't know when and whether you develop a dependence because that comes down to your unknown individual predisposition. If you're going to take them irregularly as needed you should reserve it for situations that are exceptionally bad or unbearable. Why am I emphasizing the possibility of dependence? Because this is a physiological dependence. You might think and feel like you can quit whenever you want, but depending on your level of dependence you can die by abruptly discontinuing your benzodiazepine. You should taper very slowly and carefully after developing dependence to give your system time to acclimate. Other medications can have bad withdrawals too so you should probably taper them as well, but benzodiazepines are one of the worst ever. It's worse than heroin. That would be my advice, but keep in mind we are all strangers on 4chan.
>>34868711>Being a NEET is hurting you more than anything else.It might be his best alternative, or maybe not. How would you know?>DO NOT fuck around with psilocybinThe problem with psychedelics is that people usually start of too strong. Shrooms are often considered less risky than DMT, but that's because of how they are typically dosed. I would argue it's better to start of with a very conservative dose of DMT than psilocybin because of its shorter half-life. If you're somehow overwhelmed or simply unfond of the effects you can at least take comfort in knowing it will end in 20 mere minutes instead of 8 continuous hours.

>>34867257SSRIs are poison created by elites to ensure you are an obedient, compliant worker bee. They are overprescribed beyond severely mentally ill people to just I was on them for the better part of two years and regretted it, paid 2,000 dollars to an out of network provider to help me taper off of them. Seriously, read up on the Therapy-Industrial Complex. The therapy industrial complex is particularly fucking insidious because it's convinced people that their natural responses to an insane world are pathological. Someone's depressed because they're trapped in a meaningless job in a society that offers no authentic connection? Let's give them SSRIs and teach them breathing exercises instead of acknowledging that maybe, just maybe, depression might be a rational response to irrational circumstances. Someone's anxious because they can feel the existential void where community used to be opr becuase thier entire fucking life and safety net is tied to some soulless fucking job? Let's call it generalized anxiety disorder instead of recognizing that their nervous system is correctly identifying that something fundamental is missing.Get the fuck off those drugs as soon as you stabilize yourself, OP. Those fucking drugs are not a long term solution. They are band-aids.
fun fact, the serotonin reuptake transporter has a distribution of genetic variants, some of which cause lower serotonin activity, some higher. the higher people are naturally more impulsive, and the lower people are more passive. they studied prison inmates in denmark and found that all the serial killers and violent criminals had an impaired reuptake protein, i.e more serotonin in the synapses. this is why they work for depression, but also why it occasionally makes people kill themselves or other people. take at your own risk.

>>34867257I've been on setraline (zoloft) and fluoxetine (prozac) before for anxiety. It worked by numbing me so much I simply didn't care. Didn't care about my anxiety, my job, my girlfriend or anything really. It felt like my entire world had be dialed down, I even ended up dissociating a bit. This is called "emotional blunting".Worst part was it messed with my cock and killed my libido, basically zero random erections and absolutely no desire to have sex, orgasms became dull. In the end, I decided to quit them because it made me so numb that I would have destroyed my own life through apathy, we as humans are meant to feel all the high highs and the low lows of existing, it's the human condition. It took me a month for the emotional blunting to go and almost two months for my libido to come back, for some poor souls it can take YEARS, sometimes decades to recover, even from a single dose.
Your mileage will vary. I found Prozac to be a slow working drug, and most of these things take literal weeks to actually fully work. It made me.. it didn't make me happy per se, it was easier to be happy. It also made me last forever in bed which is both good and bad. The downside: it worked too well for me. I started sleeping less because I didn't feel tired. I stared to think faster but in a bad way. I would jump topics to the point I couldn't have a conversation. It got worse from there, I felt a need like I had to speak so I rambled for hours, to nobody, in my apartment. I started to realize something was wrong so I ended up researching for days on what it might be. Turns out if the drugs work too well you're bipolar.
>>34874341>finding out you're bipolar through an SSRI-induced maniafeels fucking bad man>>34874193my most intrusive thoughts about SSRIs right here. the main effects are productivity and emotional blunting to get you through current-day absurdities without complete agony. If it helps you shower in the morning, jog, and then enroll in classes or send 400 resumes out, that's fine. If you are not able to process your partner's emotional needs because your emotions are flatlined, that's when you might be in a good spot to taper off.>t. former lexapro + auvelity user, going back on them when i have health insurance
need /adv/ guysi'm diagnosed with asperger's, but my country provides no benefits on the basis of having ASD alone, so i need to work (family's mad), but i also don't want to live like some slave earning next to nothing, saving 100€ a month tops if the wind blows the right way. and i'm gonna be able to find nothing but some minimum wage carpet cleaning or dishwashing garbage after NEETing for too many years. i used to be a software dev back in the day but that was too long ago to matter now, and thanks to AI that's mostly over now anyway.so i need to get a job. but i have no desire to wageslave and it's starting to cause me problems. i figured i could get on psych drugs to power through this but i have some questions:1. can i get hooked on pills and think that my life is "so great" while i'm going to be working some retarded pointless job not even trying to find a wife or anything like that, then wake up at 60 realizing that i wasted the past thirty years on drugs rather than confronting my problems and dealing with them in the moment?2. if you took them, has your life changed in a way that allowed you to stop after a while? for instance you managed to find a support network while being on these drugs or made enough money to not care anymore. i'm worried that i'll just become a literal slave just working terrible minimum wage jobs, and never manage to get out of this pit.3. do these things even work for people who are vehemently opposed to the entire psychiatric system as a whole? like, i don't believe that any of these "disorders" like depression or GAD or adhd exist in the way that the public is told that they do (i.e. "it's all chemical imbalance bro just ignore the horrific conditions, pay, and society dissolving around you man!!"), excluding vices it's all environmentally caused and i don't think there's anything that anybody could tell me that could convince me otherwise at this point. i just need to numb myself enough to survive lolthanks
>>34876066So, you're a NEET right now? Then shut up about the idea of disorders not existing, you don't have the education to make that claim, and don't even go outside. Your opinions are basically worthless compared to those who actually contribute to society.1. Nobody gets "hooked" on SSRIs, they're not a euphoric drug. They make the constant negative ruminations quieter and strong emotional states much weaker. 2. Yes, they can absolutely be used as a crutch to make life more tolerable while someone goes to therapy/establishes a routine/otherwise improves their life, and then you taper off. 3. ANY change in mentality has to come from a willingness to give it an honest god damned try and accept it. You are a leech on society right now. You don't get to be opposed to the system when you don't even participate in society.
>>34872505It was when we were like 2y into relationship, its 10y+ past that now. I loved my then gf, but life wasnt just about her as my partner back then. i can only speak from my experience, i didnt understand what they did until i stopped taking themthey made me into a kind of zombie, i could not feel emotion, positive or negative, i couldnt process the deaths of some loved ones who died during those 4 years, but at the same time i was not unhappy or depressed. im severely socially anxious and that went away completely, the fear of impending doom ive had since childhood disappeared but it didnt make me happy. it gave me erectile dysfuntion, and took away all horniness, like i usually wank every day and i could go months without even thinking about it let alone doing it. it gave me, and left me with severe brainfogwhen i stopped taking them i became really really depressed and understood what they did, and how they helpedso i wasnt depressed while on them, but i couldnt feel happy or cry or didnt really find comedy funny. a living zombie
>>34878068btw i took sertraline for 4 years, started on 25mg and maxed at 100mg, i didnt taper off them, just ran out one day during covid and stopped taking them since i didnt wanna go out anyway
>>34867257I mostly found SSRIs had both negligible side effects and negligible benefits, but I was taking them for depression, not anxiety; I can imagine they would be more effective for anxiety. I remember it took me longer to cum while on them, but that was actually desirable!Do be very careful with alcohol, though. The only times I've ever been completely out of control on alcohol was mixing it with SSRIs.
