Im a 22 black autistic woman and became interested in orthodoxy last year and I want to attend a church but my parents are against it. My family lineage is mostly pentacostal or Baptist. What are ur guys suggestions? I rlly want to be orthodox :(
>>34870823you're an adult. you should have left home 3-4 years ago. you have bigger problems than listening to monk mumble rap
>>34870823The two things most essential to orthodoxy are detachment and virtue. You can cultivate those qualities wherever you are in life, even if you're prevented from ever stepping foot in an orthodox cathedral. If what you're interested in is joining the community and following the outward forms of worship at church, then I'd say you don't actually want to be orthodox as much as you want to appear orthodox. But if you genuinely respect orthodoxy and want to follow the heart of the tradition, then that's something you can do anywhere, because it's an attitude that informs every aspect of your life. I'd suggest reading the Philokalia and other desert saints like Saint Isaac the Syrian, so long as you want to join with the tradition inwardly and not just outwardly.
>>34870823 Don't, and don't be baptist or pentecostal either. Read God's way of peace by Horatius Bonar
>>34870823If you like it then just do it. Find a way to go there and do whatever you like and if they dont like it then who cares. They shouldn't make your interests, only you do. If you need a ride there as long as you have some money or a friend it should be fine.
>>34870823Do they have specific theological concerns like Sola Scriptura? Or is it more of an identity thing?
>>34870823You should stay with your people's faith and not change it. Also, don't marry a white guy and make some black guy happy, and stop browsing racist anime boards run by white supremacists who want to exterminate your kind.
>>34870823You need to write thecafee on the friendly thing on discord so i may help ya
>>34870823Just stop using religion as a crutch
>>34870823Listen to your parents, Orthodox and Catholics don't respect the bible. It's all form over function.
>>34874882orthodoxy is literally the only one of those three that does listen to the Bible and doesn't have an absolutely retarded notion of original sin
>>34874891"Original sin" means a few different things to a few different groups, so I must ask for clarification:Are you asserting that the Orthodox don't believe we inherit a sin nature from when our ancestors Adam and Eve ate the fruit in Genesis 3? I skimmed Sepharim Rose's book recently at I was pretty appalled to see you guys believe in "Aerial Toll Booths". I was even more appalled to realize despite influencing so many of you, he was a known reprobate, being given over to vile affections as described in Romans 1, and therefore should obviously not be consulted for any spiritual matters, being a "son of Belial" as was the Old Testaments word for reprobates.
>>34870888>don't be a baptist either >recommends secondary literature instead of the bible typical>>34870823Read the bible and be a baptist
