>possible lifelong undiagnosed adhd

Going to see a shrink tomorrow. Anyone else realise late in life, after it’s all gone to shit, that you have been playing all this time with a handicap you never knew about.
>>
>>34871970
yeah me, same boat, almost same age.
been wasting my entire life thus far.
walking past the mess in my apartment everyday for years. years passing like the snap of a finger.

self medicating with cannabis, as it turns out, is typical for adhders, which lead me down that path.
still not sure if i have it but like 70% sure
>>
>>34871976
Why don’t you seek help anon?

I’ve been told my whole life I have potential, but I just need to focus and pay attention. I’m not going to waste the next half of my life. Don’t waste yours either.
>>
>>34871992
I am seeking help and I have newfound motivation recently. but a lot of damage is obviously already done, including physical. bad teeth for one and considering how much of a failure I am, crippling RSD.

>I’ve been told my whole life I have potential, but I just need to focus and pay attention
same. since pre school I have been told that I am smart and can achieve great things but that I am too lazy.
it was between that and adultsl ooking at me like im retarded (scored an IQ of around 128 on cognitive metrics) because I may be socially slow sometimes or spaced out.
>>
>>34871970
don't take ritalin or any of the adhd meds. everyone i've met on them is fucked
it's for college tests and that's it
>>
>>34871970
>>34871976
Emphasize that your life is falling apart in multiple aspects and say that your parents didn't believe in neurodivergence and never got you any testing as a kid. They need to hear how it affects your life in a lot of ways.
Been trying to get an actual test for like over a year and not just the guaranteed denial questionnaire. I wish you guys luck, if this next try for my diagnosis fails I might have to KMS. I can hold down a job but the entire rest of my life is a shambles.
>>
>>34872068
Blatantly false. Ritalin, Adderall, etc are so you can actually clean your place, mealprep, do well at work and meet deadlines, and take care of yourself + not abandon projects halfway through.
>>
>>34872100
I took 30mg of ritalin (retard variant so 15mg with 15mg offset) and it allowed me to clean my kitchen for 1 hour, and after that I unfortunatelky got distracted writing down symptoms from childhood to now to make sure I actually have adhd, and then made some plans and called some people and got stuck on youtube.
>>
>>34871970
Still gonna be the same handicapped afterwards

No point in regretting anything. I'm younger than you and I am well aware that it won't last long so the life that remains to be lived is short in both our cases
I recently got convinced I have ADHD. A part of me still doesn't believe in it, but it's like toxic positivity. You just benefit from it even if it's fake because it changes your behavior, you do stuff like printing out a big calendar, journaling, taking meds
>>
>>34872106
Stimulants aren't a silver bullet that magically make you into a normal person, you still have to put in the work of fixing your bad habits
That being said I'm unmedicated because stimulants unmasked my autism
>>
>>34871970
>Anyone else realise late in life, after it’s all gone to shit, that you have been playing all this time with a handicap you never knew about.
That isn't how diagnoses work. It's not a genetic defect that you didn't know you had until now. ADHD describes a set of behavior. That behavior is what's being described, not an underlying condition. You aren't at some mysterious disadvantage, you've just got bad behavior and now you're trying to excuse yourself from the consequences of that behavior rather than be responsible for yourself.
>>
>>34872075
these are great points anon. however my parents did get me tested as a kid but the landscape was completely different back then. it is entirely possible that both the professional and me downplayed symptoms or misreported or misjudged them.
>>
>>34873045
>it is entirely possible that the professional downplayed symptoms
Not likely. They get kickbacks based on the amount of drugs they prescribe. Professionals frequently overdiagnose, they almost never underdiagnose.
>>
>>34873064
im not from america, doctors here are incentivized to do their job, not take bribes from big pharma.
also it was over 2 decades ago.
>>
>>34873001
......how bad is that to deal with? I don't mind being a robot that's blunt with people if I can go to the gym, cook consistently, and keep my spaces tidy.
>>
>>34871970
Yeah, except replace ahdh with autism. Only realized this by 31.

for me its
>adhd
dont think so, i can focus on a 3hr long movie
>autism
maybe a high functioning one, but i can tolerate things i dont like for a while
>anxiety
i dont give a damn most of the time and can function, just a bit sweating in certain situations
>depression
i can laugh at funny 4chan posts or a good joke, and can smile, and often feel neutral
>ptsd, past trauma
things come up sometimes but they dont cripple my daily life
etc

i just dont care to maintain friendships, and dont know what to do with myself. but im hygienic, groomed and keep order around myself, and follow the law. i dont have weird hobbies, dont have much interest in anything. well past the point of no return in age. there is not even a diagnostic i fit in. feeling like an alien sometimes desu
>>
>>34874142
>dont think so, i can focus on a 3hr long movie
that doesnt mean you cant have adhd.
>feel lik an alien
can be typical depression, but can also be a clear indicator for undiagnosed ND.

see what I posted in the other thread:
signs for tism
>taking things literally
>sensitivity to noise or other sensory input
>routine driven
>very specific interests

signs for adhd
>getting called lazy, potential not aligining with achievements
>lack of motivation and planning, disorganized
>restlessness
>steady race of thoughts
>exceptional pattern recognition
>excessive dopamine seeking (sugar, interesting books/movies, video games, sex, achievements, novelty)

>severe social struggles, anxiety and depression for both
>>
>>34871970
>"Erhm yes go... I mean friend, you have been playing with an invisible handicap you're whole life! It is a very real disease we call ADHD"
>"Here are your over the counter amphetamines, those will perk you right up and treat your disease!"

You're pretty old and sheepish so you'll probably end up on SSRIs too
>>
>>34874163
you are sheepish for your asmongold level dogpiss take. adhd is a proven genetically inherited disorder
>>
>>34874166
>adhd is a proven genetically inherited disorder
No, it's not. If that were the case they would test for it genetically. They don't do that, though, they just diagnose anyone who vaguely alludes to being distracted sometimes.
>>
"adhd" is fake. in adulthood you just find a job that suits your attention style. people with "adhd" are often very good at attention cycling, i.e multitasking, and excel in jobs that require that. therefore isn't a disorder. makes you think why they tell people it is? they don't care if you get the wrong job and have to take meth to work, just as long as they can sell you drugs.
>>
>>34874170
>they just diagnose anyone
ah, le evil doctors.
maybe corrupt americans do.
this is not the case at all for european doctors in a free healthcare system. you need to take multiple standardized tests and score highly in most of them to even get considered, and thorough psychiatrists will require indept evaluation of your childhood and parents perspective on top.

>No, it's not.
yes, it is. there is verifyable differences in brain structure and activity.
>>
>>34874197
>there is verifyable differences in brain structure and activity.
No, there's not. Correlation isn't causation.
>>
>>34874217
your a retard and get your opinions on adhd from asmongold. cant take you serious until you do some research
>>
>>34874244
I don't even know who that is, but the fact that you have to randomly invent strawmen to attack reveals you for what you are without me even having to rebut anything.
>>
>>34874257
cool story, and the fact you reurgitate some shallow utter nonsensical dogshit takes about adhd reveals how dumb and clueless you are, no further questions.
>>
>>34874166
>>34874244
>>34874265
get a load of this nagger. hope a nigerian doctor shoves his fist up his puckered anus.
>>
>>34874265
The reason why you're so emotionally defensive of this diagnosis is that you're leaning on it as a way to excuse you from your own personal failings. You should try fixing your problems instead of relying on drugs and labels to mask them for you. It will lead to a better life, I promise you.
>>
>>34874283
your advice is worthless considering you know nothing about the topic at hand. worry about yourself little rightoid chuddy.
>>
>>34874318
I'm a physician and you sound like the type of patient who takes a lot of work unless you get the script you want.
>>
>>34874387
cool you are a doctor, that means you can read.
here is some sources so you can educate yourself, retard-kun.
https://www.medicalnewstoday.com/articles/adhd-brain-vs-normal-brain
https://www.addsolutionsnj.com/differences-in-brain-structure-for-children-with-a-d-h-d/
https://pmc.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/articles/PMC6871159/#abstract1
>>
>>34874406
okay so you are retarded? of course there are different brain types. doesn't mean it's a disorder.
>>
>>34874406
men and women have brain differences that are easily observable. who gives a shit? you're probably a tranny on estrogen and that's why you're so fuzzed out.
>>
>>34871970
I knew that i probably have adhd since i was 20. I am not seeking help for it. Getting adderall is pretty much impossible here. They give it liberally only in us/canada.
>>
>>34874387
I'm a physician, and I diagnose that you are utterly delusional and require medical attention for your madness.
>>
>>34876181
>>34876176
>Bringing up tranny out of nowhere
My diagnosis was correct, not only are these guys mad, they're trannies.
>>
man it sucks that close minded IQlets can become doctors these days

ts not my job to explain to you what ADHD is and how well established it is or how it gets diagnosed you absolute mouthbreathing retard

just know your colleagues probably laugh at you
>>
>>34876310
Doctors are often closed minded. They're procedural, not philosophical.
>>
>>34876323
any doctor worth their while doesnt outright reject other medical fields. hes just dumb. or its a halo effect.
worked his ass off to get a doctorate and now he thinks hes above things.
>>
>>34876310
it's not well established.
>>
>>34876195
Did you change your life in any way to mitigate negative behaviors?
>>
>>34876503
shut the fuck up you uneducated troon. try reading something thats not a fox news article for once
>>
>>34876334
They don't reject other fields because they're cabalistic. But they usually also have a narrow focus, they follow algorithms and flowcharts a lot.
>>
>>34876565
I just play video games and drink coffee. I don't get into any of the more destructive behaviors like alcohol, gambling, drugs.
Being aware that i may have a severe attention disorder helps me understand why getting things done is so difficult.
>>
>>34877981
hm, can you expand on that
>>
i just started ritalin recently and while i do feel like it's helping me focus, it's also making me more restless. like i am already pretty hyperactive, and its making it worse, which is kinda weird. i thought it was suppossed to make me more normal. but then i also always was sensitive to drugs, so they would start faster and stronger than for other people.
