Ok, I'm 21 now, and I've always felt weird or different from other people, especially in social situations. I thought it was just anxiety, but I think I'm neurodivergent now. I went through some self-improvement and actually got myself a girlfriend 2 years ago, but she was way too much, and I got really attached. I was normal for a while there because I had some confidence; I actually looked good, and other girls showed attention to me. We broke up in May, and I was dissociating and spacing out in public. I started having short-term memory loss, and I got way too skinny through the relationship cause i wasnt eating. Is dissociation normal for everyone going through a breakup? Or am I neurodivergent cause there is something seriously wrong with me? That shit is scary when it happens, and people notice it. My friends noticed it too, and they abandoned me cause they think it's permanent, and I just feel so lost right now. Something is happening with my mind, and I can't understand it. Maybe neurodivergence can explain it because even without this stress, I always felt and acted somewhat weird. I remember when I was in 10th grade, I was in school and it was the daily prayer in the morning. A friend of mine told me a joke before the prayer started, and the joke kept replaying in my head. I couldn't stop myself from laughing in the middle of the prayer, and our class teacher saw it. I really don't know what to do. I used to be so much better at academic stuff, but now I can't keep my focus straight for 10 minutes. Has anyone else gone through something like this?

>Is dissociation normal for everyone going through a breakup?
No.

I'm not being unkind, anon, but you need to talk to a doctor, and quickly. You may be neurodivergent, but it's also possible there's something more serious going on. Spacing out is one thing, but actual memory loss can indicate any number of unpleasant things like mild strokes or early onset dementia. Get yourself checked out soon, please.
>>
you care way too much man, try smoking weed or doing benzos or something
i never liked benzos because they just make you docile but dont change the thoughts
weed just makes you worry about trivial shit like whether you should clean the house or if youre masturbating too much

seconding this, get tested for neurodivergence.
you can do self tests for autism and adhd online for example. I can send you some links of decent ones.

but generally here are some pointers that may give you a hint.

signs for tism
>taking things literally
>sensitivity to noise or other sensory input
>routine driven
>very specific interests

signs for adhd
>getting called lazy, potential not aligining with achievements
>lack of motivation and planning, disorganized
>restlessness
>steady race of thoughts
>exceptional pattern recognition
>excessive dopamine seeking (sugar, interesting books/movies, video games, sex, achievements, novelty)

for both
>severe social struggles, anxiety and depression
>very strong emotions/ emotional reactions
>>

>get tested for neurodivergence.
OP should definitely do that, but he should be ruling out things like brain tumours, vascular dementia, and Parkinson's first.
>>
>>34877938
Yeah, I thought about that as well, and I got a blood test. Everything looked normal. The only physical symptoms are excessive sweating and weight loss; that's about it. God, I don't even want to think about dementia cause im only 21.
>>
>>34878119
Are there accurate ones online? I didn't try any cause i heard they aren't very accurate.

I always had controlling my emotions but I never saw that as neurodivergence. I think it might be inattentive adhd thats where most of my symptoms match.

I really dont want to go to a psychiatrist if I can get a credible diagnosis without that I could start to get better.
>>
>>34878269
You need an MRI scan, not a blood test. Go to your doctor.
>>
>>34878278
>Are there accurate ones online?
No. Diagnosing a neurodivergent condition is a job for a medical professional, not a website.
>>
>>34878283
Fuck me. I guess there's no avoiding it.
>>
>>34878278
accurate in what way?
their point is to give you a rough idea. high in symptoms, low in symptoms. they are perfectly fine for that.
you can even do the same questionnaires that professionals will have you do. look it up.

do you relate to anything I wrote?
>>
>>34877917
you watched way too much tiktok, you're completely normal. You're applying these labels like neurodivergent to yourself and then start interpreting normal reactions as some sort of extreme pathology. Many such cases among young people.
Yes, it's normal to feel like shit and stay in your head a lot when you broke up. Yes, it's normal to suffer.
>Maybe neurodivergence can explain it
No, it can't. You're not. You're normal. Everything you experience is normal.
>A friend of mine told me a joke before the prayer started, and the joke kept replaying in my head. I couldn't stop myself from laughing in the middle of the prayer, and our class teacher saw it. I really don't know what to do.
This is also completely normal. It's funnier at the time because you're not supposed to laugh during prayer.
>Has anyone else gone through something like this?
Yes. It's normal. You're normal.
>>
>>34878269
also this guy >>34877938 is trolling you and you swallow it whole because you're a panicky retard who believes everything they read on the internet, including the tiktok diagnosis of your non-existent neurodivergence. I swear every single young person is walking around proclaiming how special and broken they are when they are completely fucking normal
>>
>>34878307
I found this. https://add.org/wp-content/uploads/2015/03/adhd-questionnaire-ASRS111.pdf

According to it i have symptoms of adhd.

I relate to the adhd symproms they are all on point, but I don't know if I have exceptional pattern recognition. Social struggles and strong emotions were present throughout my whole life.
>>
>>34878403
I don't even have TikTok on my phone. I watch Insta Reels sometimes and YouTube, but that's it.
The dissociation or spacing out I don't even know what to call it has been going on for over three months now. I don't think spacing out and people actually noticing it is normal. I also have difficulties controlling my facial expressions. I just don't know how to explain it, but it's kinda like a tic. Whenever I talk to people, I have to consciously keep my face neutral.

I only started suspecting neurodivergence because I heard that undiagnosed adhd adults go through something like this that gets them diagnosed.
>>
>>34878407
He could be trolling, but this isn't just in my head. I've thought about dementia, parkinson's, and autism cause ive always had trouble understanding people. I only looked at symptoms, but getting an MRI scan can put so much worry to rest if everything is fine.

>According to it i have symptoms of adhd.
time to seek out a professional :)
are you able to do so or do you live in a country where health care is inaccessible?

hopefully yes. in that case you could do more self reflection or even tests (I can send you some) to prepare. that will speed up the process.

>but I don't know if I have exceptional pattern recognition.
thats fine. adhd exists on a spectrum.

the usual route after diagnosis is medication.
medication isnt a silver bullet, but it locks you in to whatever you put in front of you, like unwanted homework or chores.

there is also a lot of youtube videos that give you great pointers or can just help you recognize and understand yourself better.
like this one https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=olZKL7UbRZ0
>>
>>34878494
>I don't think spacing out and people actually noticing it is normal.
It is completely, utterly normal to space out and dissociate when you're processing trauma or grief. It's the most normal, human thing there is. You've let yourself get gaslit by the internet that you're neurodivergent because you have a healthy reaction to suffering. Fucking stop you idiot.
>>
>34878500
yeah just ignore that you felt different and didn't fit in your entire life.
shut the fuck up you clueless rightoid incel
>>
>>34878502
>yeah just ignore that you felt different and didn't fit in your entire life.
You're the most normal teenager there ever was.
I'm sorry to burst your bubble. You are not special. You are normal.
>>
>>34878504
you are trying to give advice on shit you know nothing about. try spending that energy on something constructive.
>>
>>34878497
I don't know if my family will agree to professional help. they're old fashioned and don't want to get me a diagnosis.

I've watched YouTube videos, but professional help seems to be the fastest way. gotta save up some money to do it alone.
>>
>>34878525
why would your parents deny you something that may very well be necessary for your well being?`that's just evil. like valuing appearances over whats best for you.
for me it would be enough reason to move out and distance myself, if they do completely shut it down.
>>
>>34878500
is it normal if it persists for over 3 months with short-term memory loss, and even my friends are noticing it? They even asked me if I have dementia. You're probably trolling, but I don't feel normal anymore.
>>
>>34877917
>. I thought it was just anxiety, but I think I'm neurodivergent now.
2 things:
1. get a diagnostic.
B. that is just two ways of saying roughly the same thing
>>
>>34878537
They are worried about appearances, and I understand it to some extent. They're not evil; they're great parents, but they probably don't want me to get a label cause they have tried to make me feel normal my whole life. I can do it alone and keep it a secret if it does actually end up helping me.

Also, what other tests can I try to understand this better? Can you send me some?
>>
>>34878541
Yeah, just worrying about it won't get me anywhere, I guess.
>>
>>34878554
They will deny you necessary medical treatment excludes "they're not evil."
>>
>>34878554
>they dont want me to get a label
sounds like they need to convince themselves.
your well being matters more than "appareances". its extra silly because noone has to know of your diagnosis or medication. you dont have to tell strangers anything. your parents are selfish. they should want you to get better above all else, instead of maintaining their image of you.

you should really talk to them about this and convince them to help you. the sooner you get it sorted, the faster your life will improve.
anyway, thats just my two cents.

other tests
>https://www.advancedassessments.co.uk/resources/ADHD-Screening-Test-Adult.pdf
>https://nichq.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/09/NICHQ-Vanderbilt-Assessment-Scales.pdf
^ this one is important because for an adhd diagnosis you must confirm at least to a degree that symptoms were present in childhood.

this one is from an influencer, its still a decent pointer if you still have doubts. https://adhdvision.typeform.com/to/ejRtgCu9
>>
>>34878561
I don't know; they support me in their own way, and I know I can beat this on my own and live a normal life cause I did that before, after months of working out and improvement, but I think the relationship and engineering lessons burned me out cause i really can't act normal anymore. I pulled it off before, and I have to do it again. I just have to accept that I can't handle relationships.
>>
>>34878614
It's hard to talk to them. i brought it up to my mom one time, and she dismissed it and changed the subject. I should just do it myself; it's easier that way.

Thanks for the tests; they were really helpful.
>>
>>34878785
yw. sorry about your parents. good luck anon.
