how do i become more courageous?i am cripplingly afraid of pushing the bounds of my comfort zonewhen i force myself to, it does seem to drastically improve my life, but it feels like the "gains" from this vanish in like a week or two of not using them and then i turn into a sweaty stuttering coward again.can anyone relate?
so let's pause and take a look at where you're at alreadyyou already know how to force yourself to push the bounds of your comfort zone and have done sothat's already bounds above the NEETs who never even trycourage is effort despite fear, not in absence of it -- which is what you're doing alreadykeep doing it, don't get too hung up on the 'gains' going away -- you're a WIP, not a complete productyou're already on the right track. keep pushing it, keep being afraid. if you aren't, you're not pushing yourself outside of your comfort zone.wgmi anon
>>34898622One thing to remember is that you don't feel the progress, you look back and realize that it has happened. You can of course force yourself through the fear, but it's better to try to do a lot of the stuff that seems normal to you in order to not backslide. One practical thing you could do is to banter with the cashier when grocery shopping. Middle aged men working that type of job love it for some reason so you don't have to start with young hot women. "Oh you got stuck with the closing shift?" is a pretty good go-to line that I use if I'm buying something late and it's a slow night for the cashier. If the person is grumpy or I stumble over my words or some shit I still just leave. It's exactly the same outcome and they don't give a shit because lots of people come in every day. If they remember me it's because I shop there so often that I don't banter even one tenth of the time I go in there, meaning that they haven't categorized me as "that guy who's always trying to talk."All of the above has helped me get out of my comfort zone socially in other situations, but it's a stupidly small thing that I don't really think about except "yeah that felt good" unless I look back and realize I couldn't really do that way back when. Apply the same to your situation. WAGMI Anon.
>>34898622Bet yourself across the face 50 times every night and add 50 for every lack of courage that day You'll be cured before you know it..a new man
>>34898622It all depends on what you're trying to be courageous for. I can't really give you advice without a ball park idea? I will say everyone experiences fear, the people you would never expect too, it's the going out there regardless that matters.
>>34898622Personally I take large amounts of ephedrine, caffeine and whiskey. That combination will allow me to casually walk off a cliff and ngaf

>>34898622I’m in the exact same boatI helped host my sister’s wedding earlier this year, reconciling with family members and old friends I hadn't seen in years. It was hella fun and wasn't as socially draining as I'm afraid it would be, but ever since it ended, my life has been radio silent. As someone who lives a pretty uneventful life, masking as neurotypical always feels performative, like a switch I turn on for specific occasions. People say social skills get easier with practice as your brain rewires itself, but if you don't constantly maintain it, that progress just disappears
