Is fencing a lame hobby to get into? I thought it sounded fun but idk if it would be the equivalent of the fat Star Wars kid flipping around with the stick
>>
Who fucking cares whether it's lame? It's badass to be good at something. There genuinely aren't enough days left in your life to spend them thinking about what's lame or not

it's fun, but expensive and filled with nose-in-the-air types with the best daddys money can buy.

HEMA and the like might be better but then you have some of the above AND try-hard spergs, but you'll get hands on with more than just 3-types of the same sword that you will with fencing. as well as the historical aspect of poking through ye old medieval combat manual and putting it into practice

but as >>34901656 says who cares what others think? if it's a group activity then it's really the people there that matter

Took fencing in HS and college and had a blast. I'd say go for it.

Fencing is cool, however avoid saber as it’s for faggots. Fencers also tend to be autistic but less so than HEMA

dont do HEMA without wrestling experience

generally it a middle-upperclass sport, probably a good way to network

This. Foil is fine, epee is fantastic, but saber is rife with the most flamboyant faggotry you could imagine.

Saber:
>two retards clash and one person cheers

Foil:
>how people imagine fencing looks; more swordfight-y

Epee:
>slower, more methodical and strategic

I do hema and have 0 wrestling experience here in the Netherlands.
We don't do cqc it's not legal in most tournaments here so we don't practice it unless you specifically seek it out. It's probably different where you live, Poland and Czech republic and Ukraine absolutely love getting their hands dirty in cqc

I think you're still in the indoors thinking where your peers really influence your world view.
You'll come to find, and I know that this is SHOCKING, but you'll come to find that the people who practice those things with you actually think it's cool and don't find it cringe at all

I did dancing, from the outside I felt like I'm going to die, but from the first lesson it felt so normal and even good. Now I felt amazing.
Same with hema, same with joining a choir or acting and any other activities you choose to do
