this is a book (writing on 4chan, not a book right now) for helping people in their 30s who have a problem with scriptlessness. lack of support from conventional narratives can debilitate people, preventing them from finding work and subsequently other important things like friendship, fulfilment, happiness. there are two aspects of modern life that are important for people: spirituality and technology. basically, if we have control of these two, we can optimize our happiness. however, if we lack control, we can lose a great deal of happiness. spirituality, religion, offers the clearest roadmap for success, fulfilment, etc. in the world. in other words, if you are a religious person, there is a high likelihood you are competent in several areas. for example, you would have a good moral character, literacy, etc. it's true: it might not help with the finer aspects of living like making a living, meeting people, etc. you could be a spiritually attuned person, but immature in other aspects of life. so, the two balance each other out. if you have technological ability, you are more likely to be well-off, sociable, etc. somebody who is technologically competent might be good at computers, but they could also be very comfortable with shopping malls. technology involves modern things. Although, I would recommend having a strong religious foundation, you actually need both religion and technology to be a successful functioning member of society. Religion is like a science of the mind. It gives us insight into how the world works. I notice that people on 4chan tend to be more technologically-oriented. They might be more comfortable with mechanical things, arts and culture, etc. which would explain why when I go on 4chan I feel amused, happy, accepted, educated. But there are spiritual things that I would not go to 4chan for, i.e. to feel calm, understanding, fulfilment. So yeah... I have some topics in mind that I could write in more detail about.
basically, the goal or best case scenario of someone on this website is to be a "functional member of society," which is not as easy as it looks. society in other words keeps people down in numerous ways. it's run like a prison, technology and nearly other facet of society exploits you, and humans in and of themselves do not tend to be very happy. so, being functional is A good thing. it means getting along with other people and, more importantly, getting along with yourself. This is different from telling you to hit your exercise goals, brush your teeth everyday, etc. If the goal is to be functional, the skill is happiness. I'm not probably the happiest person (I'm in my 30s) but I like writing about problems we all face. Whenever I think of self-improvement I get the impression like it's about happiness, a vague sense of being limitlessly happy. Like, I agree that it's important to hit exercise goals and dress better, but I could also see a drawback in aspiring to "limitless goals." Now that I'm in my 30s, I see life more about living from day to day. In my 20s, I thought I would be a huge success or something by now. which goes to show that "limitless" happiness is great, but it's also important to recognize our strengths.
