I live in a college town that is known for debauchery, while its mostly nice, I live in a shitty part full of thieves and demons and fuckery. WTF can I do to best protect myself and my home on a budget? So far I just reputationmaxx so I have backup.
If you have a home invasion, if they are at all violent, kill them. Don't injure them, kill them. They cannot argue that "they were just leaving, they were surrendering" etc when they have departed this mortal coil. I hope it doesn't ever come to that, but I don't know how bad it is for you. Don't invite trouble. Locked doors and closed blinds, don't even let them see anything that might be worth taking. Be polite yet firm with random schizos walking up to you on the street. Make friends with your neighbors, the sane ones at least.

Unfortunately I went through some sort of mental episode/ego death lately that made me way too trusting of the wrong people, I had to learn that the hard way when some kids tried to rob my home. Also there are transient people who are kind yet will steal my shit. Really sent me into a spiral of panic and embittered me so much and it is absolutely true that you should not interact with the schizos other than general politeness. It sucks because I come from a very high trust hometown and this kind of thing has given me some serious whiplash. Going to get a camera, probably going to put chicken wire or some sort of rudimentary setup protection on my windows and remove all rocks and bricks from the area because apparently the people here do break your windows to get in. It would be great to get a guard dog, but then its another mouth to feed. Thankfully I have a lot of very good neighbors and police response time is very good, but the bullshit is so much I don't even know anymore. Definitely gonna fuck off to a different part of town or study abroad because fuck living in the ghetto.
