How do I stop sweating money?I’m too responsible with money. Have a good career with a few retirement plans building. Always saved heavily and invested throughout my life (32). Money is not an ‘issue’ for me. I’m just stingy as fuck, I can really sit there and argue with myself back and forth about a $5 video game or treating myself to a meal when I have shit home.I recently have ‘gotten’ a social life, and have been spending a lot more on social activities and the gf. I’m normie enough to just spend it no questions asked and not say anything either, so its not like I’m sperging out to people about it.On the inside, it drives me nuts to a degree though. For the most part, it’s not like my accounts are going down, just going up less on a month-by-month basis.I’m not foolish to think I can have my cake of newfound normie-ness and eat it of spending nothing. Its logically sound, just emotionally painful almost. How do I learn to loosen my white-knuckle mentality, for my own sake?
>>34906827It's better to be stressed and saving than stressed and broke because you were a spendthrift. Your mentality let you build the habits and discipline to save a lot of money in the first place, I don't think you should change anything. If it's really that much of a problem for you to let go and spend any money on fun shit just budget that in. Give yourself $50 or $100 of "play money" every week for entertainment and consumption. After everything else is taken care of including savings, of course.
>>34906827Buy stuff below $100 with no restrictions. The only purchases you have to worry about are things that cost $1,000+.
>>34906929Terrible advice. I had this mentality and one day decided to take a total and found I was spending like $1000/month on bullshit like beer, gas station snacks, buying little bullshit items I used once and forgot about, etcI don't care if you make $250k a year, no one can afford to burn $1k/month in this economy. It's the big 26, either you're on the top side or the bottom side of this K shaped economy.
>>34906941>I don't care if you make $250k a year, no one can afford to burn $1k/month in this economy.Yes you can. When you make more money, you can spend more money.
>>34906827If I was in your shoes id make a chart with 4 boxesNeed/want (interests and sometimes hobbies because it seems like youre neglecting this as well)Need/dont want (work)Dont need/want (hobbies and sometimes shit)Dont need/Dont want (bullshit you should omit from life)Then id give yourself a budget for each interest/hobby since it seems like youre already good at managing money on certain hobbies or interests youve neglected The reason I include the chart is so you dont feel guilty funding bullshit like the anon above me mentioned such as gas station food.this seems like it would settle any anxiety to wasting money on useless pursuits. Good luck
>>34906944>When you make more money, you can spend more money. What happens if you stop making money because you get laid off, or your company is outed as a scam and collapses, or there's a recession? I'll say it again. It's the big 26. If this year didn't teach you that everything is absolutely fucked and that you need to be moving like disaster is on the horizon (which it is), there's no saving you.
>>34906975>What happens if you stop making money because you get laid off, or your company is outed as a scam and collapses, or there's a recession?Nothing because I already have enough savings using my method.>I'll say it again. It's the big 26. If this year didn't teach you that everything is absolutely fucked and that you need to be moving like disaster is on the horizon (which it is),That's retarded because economists predict like 12 collapses every year and they are never right.
>>34906982>Nothing because I already have enough savings using my method.Ok, so you have at least a million dollars, liquid, right? If you have less than that, at least you're living in property that you bought and own outright, in full, with no other expenses besides taxes/maintenance? Right? If the answer to either of these questions is "no," then you do not have enough.>That's retarded because economists predict like 12 collapses every year and they are never right. It's not the 12 collapses that fail to manifest that are the problem, it's the one that does. And I'm not even talking about a recession, anyone who's paying attention even remotely can see the systemic collapse of the US dollar is coming. Whatever you're holding in USD will be worth half of that in a few years, and it's only going to get worse.
You have no asshole while greedily hoarding money like spending loose change would kill you.
>>34906996>If the answer to either of these questions is "no," then you do not have enough.I'd rather enjoy my youth than to scrounge and save and have a shitty life.>it's the one that does. It's a nothingburger. Everyone thought Covid was the end. Then nothing happened and the market went higher than before, like it always does.
>>34906996A collapse necessitates hitting a rock bottom and getting better afterwards. There isnt going to be a collapse because we aren't going to hit rock bottom. It is just going to get worse and worse until society itself can no longer function. If protesters try to revolt, the government will just start killing or arresting people. And any organization for this purpose would be infiltrated by the FBI.Whatever event you are waiting for will not happen.
>>34907867No it hasn't. The cost of some things has risen and the cost of other things has decreased. Besides, if you buy more of the things that rise in value, you can sell them later.
>>34906827I'm definitely similar with my money, I'm struggle mealing myself at home, refusing to buy anything i want but will have no issues dropping money when going out with friends/ etc. I have no idea how to fix this or if it needs to be fixed, honestly. life is too unpredictable and thousand dollar charges come out of no where. So i don't think its a bad enough habit to fix.
>>34908235>You must be b8ing me, because surely you know how that worked out for the Weimar-era Germans. You're meming on me for referencing data from 8 years ago while you're referencing data from 100 years ago.
>>34908251Common sense looks like trolling when you're overthinking.
>>34908160>its not that much worse, some things are going downWhy are you actively downplaying how bad it is?
>>34908468Nothing bad happened to me.>>34908484No it isn't. If someone is 50 IQ then they will never be able to understand Mozart.
>>34909189Imagine you are born in a shithole third world country. Your life sucks. But since nothing out of the ordinary for your country happened to you. You become complacent and act like everything is fine and normal. That is you right now.
>>34906827Trust me buddy. This is a good thing. Lot of people would kill for that level of autononous self-regulation.Easiest way is to get a friend to say "yeah Dave, you deserve that $100 steak dinner after that big promotion" so you don't feel like ass. Looks like someone had good parents.
>>34906975>What happens if you stop making money because you get laid off, or your company is outed as a scam and collapses, or there's a recession?you spend less money, isn't this common sense?
>>34906827This is a good way of thinking and when you find a wife who spends too much of it, you'll be glad for your frugal ways
