I want to improve my low mood and generally be happier/better motivated. What worked for you?

Cardio

Exercise, diet and getting outside. All the things a grown boy doesnt want to hear.
Stop caring about world events. You cant change them and I doubt youre gonna he the leader of the zeitgeist. The people that promote this news profit off your attention and emotions tied to worldly bullshit. Go full retard. You have your own life to fix, friends and family if youre lucky and no one else.
Also limit your online presence. Being online is alone time and at no other point in history have people made themselves more alone then accept it as a cultural norm. People are the most motivating thing to be around so find ways to reintegrate.
>>

I find it hard to socialise when I'm feeling low, I feel like I'm miserable and boring to be around and never know what to say.
>>
>>34909860
If you tell yourself you are boring, you will put yourself mentally in a corner and have nothing to say.
A lot of anons have similar issues to yours. I read how to win friends and influence people. Its like a century old book and its words are still true. Most people are just waiting for their turn to fill the air with their tremendous lung capacity of bullshit.
They just want to talk about themselves. If you dont know what to say especially, just be a good listener.
And promote their puffer fishing by asking questions.
If they went to the UK, ask if the food is as bad as people say.
If they rock climb ask if they have any stories or near death experiences?
Its not difficult to do, and you can steer the conversation a bit based on what you are interested in pertaining to the topic.
So if someone is a geology student and went to the UK to study iron age rock formations, I may ask more about iron age history than geological matters.
If you ask a question they will already assume you are curious and interested in them so most questions are valid.
People are so lost in their own head ive head to have someone ask me why I want to know or tell me a question is stupid cause youre still feeding their ability to talk about themselves.
Unless you are an incredible storyteller or found someone with a shred of empathy (rare), most people are only 25%-75% in tune with what youre saying anyways. Conversations just a volleyball game of back and forth and theres a lot of ways to play.
I usually listen more at first anyways because I can assess if this is someone I even want to be friends with or stick to acquaintance with. If I trust them, ill open up more and see how we can bounce energy off one another.
As for feeding low, look back at the first part of my post. I try to keep an open door policy with friends just because I know friends can uplift my energy even as an introvert.

Idk what situation you are in cause you haven't given a lot of info. You sound like youre in a mental pit of misery rn. You have to realize your brain is in self-destruction mode and you have to physically put yourself in different situations to get out of it. It will feel stupid and you will have to reconfront old emotions you'd rather stay buried.
Its not smart or rational to keep your brain like a timing loop falling in the same patterns of depression. You have to find the mental shutdown lever that lets you dismiss reason and take action. This is the difference between people willing to overcome problems vs people that stay demoralized.
I've had enough arguments in my life to realize if someone wants to make up any reason on earth to excuse themselves from something, they will make it up on the spot and the conversation will never end.
It sounds retarded and gay to say something like join a social club and on Saturday morning, wake up at 8 and go hike with 10 other people but you just gotta do it. Fuck your brain cause its poison rn.
I set random mid day alarms on my phone to remind myself to have 10 seconds of consciousness to ask myself what I need to do so im not lost in mental spirals. These tools help to wake you up and plan out of our mind prisons. Theyre gay but necessary from swimming in an ocean of unconscious instinct

Thanks for the advice, and truth be told I am in a pit of misery atm. It's complicated but long story short: I'm stuck in an odd relationship with someone I wanted nothing to do with in the first place (because I knew it wouldn't end well for me) and I fear I've grown too attached. As pathetic as it sounds I can't stop thinking about them even though there's a good chance they don't care about me and are probably seeing other people, it's really affecting my mood around other people. I want to cut them off - I have for a while now - but part of me doesn't, and hopes everything will eventually somehow work out for the better. Besides, if I did cut them off they'd probably still be on my mind constantly and I will be left wondering "what if". I feel completely trapped and like no matter what I do I will regret it.

Yeah so that sounds a bit more than low. It seems like you have so many conflicted feelings bottled up that youre overwhelmed by them without an outlet to express them.
You have a big problem on your hand and you need to confront the person in your relationship.
If I was in your shoes, and wanted to handle the situation in a way that affirmed I did my best, I'd sit down and stream of conscious write every problem I had with the relationship; then after you barf out as much as you can, edit it down in a way it makes sense.
When I did this, I summed it down into 4 points and also had an example or two backing each point as a point if reference.
I then found a place to bring up the conversation with them where we could talk about it. I avoided public but also home since I didnt want an argument. We say in the car in a park.
Then read everything off and discuss each point.
You should get a vision on if the situations are fixable or not. Id give a month to a year to see but if they blow up in your face and it seems hopeless then you have your answer to run for the hills and never look back.
To me this way seems the most honest. Might as well let the rats out of the bag so they can see how you actually feel. Hiding yourself to make it work is going to lead to problems down the road as well as sticking with your status quo hoping it works out.
Why do you think they are seeing other people?
Right now it seems like you are going through a state of despair like the relationship is already over when you are still with them. That is not a healthy place to be fractured in, especially not while you still have some cards still in your hand. Might as well play them and not fold yet.
If you do nothing, the inevitable flop will likely happen and confirm your worst nightmares. Then you really will be out of cards.
No matter what confronting them will not be a pretty situation and not one you can entirely control, but you gotta play and now.

Being bipolar and waiting for the mania to kick in.

Delusion

>>34910097
For me the next day after the mania is kind of brutal. I only sleep for 3 or 4 hours and then i'm just fucked.
>>
>>34910094
I'm probably overthinking a lot of it but at the same time I have this feeling that the relationship is doomed to fail, and that now I've grown attached it's only a matter of time before they ghost me and never see me again; after all if they did, what could I realistically do?

I despise the feeling of being dependent on another person to make me happy, I feel like a passive observer in my life, subject to the whims of fate and the will of others.

I'm not even sure what I'd say since I don't know what our relationship even is.

They confessed to me that they were on a dating site a while ago and that they'd since deleted it (just as we were beginning to see each other) but I'm not sure what to believe. If I'm being fair they have been quite honest with me in the past about their secrets and personal issues so I'm slightly inclined to believe them.

Well, I just lost my two kids, my mom, my only brother, and one of my sisters in the last two weeks. All of them are gone forever. I know what regret is and I know what it feels like. Its the worst mistake I ever made in my life, and the worst thing to ever happen to me. I would give anything to stop my younger self from moving here. I would hold my younger self at gunpoint, and would kill him if he tried to move back here.

Every single day I am completely consumed with hate and regret. I absolutely hate this place, and everyone in it. Can't wait for the asteroid to kill us all. I wish it was coming sooner.

>>34909913 this anon's posts but it can also be a vitamin D/iron/magnesium etc deficiency too. Those supplements are very easy to incorporate into your morning routine and might give you the extra little kick in the pants you need to do other things for yourself like cardio etc.

How did they all die in the span of two weeks? I have no words, I'm just so sorry to hear that, I dont know how you're sane enough to even be posting about it

>Exercise
Is that true? I've been wondering about that today. I feel terrible about myself, anxiety, social anxiety, live in a dirty place because I can't bring myself to actually take the initiative and clean it, my life is a mess, I procrastinate on everything, I'm behind in all areas of my life because I simply can't get out of this inertia, take the first step and be consistent. I've seen a lot of stuff about exercise/lifting weights helping with mood, mental health; feeling physically and mentally better would be a amazing improvement for me, but I have my doubts if exercise actually helps

Living my values
I know things like sleeping consistently, eating well, working out, talking to other humans, staying ahead on school assignments, ect. are good things I should do, so if I don't do them I feel worse because it all compounds.
Start there, live the life you know you should live based on what you genuinely believe is valuable to your life.
>>
>>34910613
Inertia works both ways. Once you get blood flowing to oxygen-starved muscles through strenuous exercise or even a half hour incel walk, that persistent feeling of lethargy fades into the background. No it doesn't make cleaning fun, but it makes it seem like minor effort by comparison.
>>
>>34910423
I'm genuinely really sorry to hear about your losses. My problems seem insignificant in comparison. What happened exactly and what do you regret if you don't mind me asking?

>>34909784
Idk maybe have another drink

Lol if real go into more detail

only coffee helps for motivation, planning to experiment with supplements like taurine or l-theanine or 5htp and vit d, and i personally use a shame method when i go to online places where smart people say smart things and i look up to them shaming myself i'm stupid doing nothing with my life and i get this motivation to do something like read a book

>It sounds retarded and gay to say something like join a social club and on Saturday morning, wake up at 8 and go hike with 10 other people but you just gotta do it.

This is quite literally the worst possible advice you could give someone. Joining a social club to be surrounded by normies is just going to make things worse.
>>
>>34910613
Yes and no. By itself exercise does make you feel better. And especially if your physical unfitness is causing low mood by chemical reasons, the chemical effects of exercise not only abolish but invert those causes and have very dramatic effects. And being fit, strong, and capable simply feels good, psychologically.
But also no, in the sense that it will not solve issues that cause depression and apathy in many cases, it will simply give you a better capability to address those issues and will help break the biochemical rut that one gets stuck in. But if you do not address the issues or remove yourself from their influence, they will continue to affect you. A problem is a problem until you face it head on.
The question for you becomes "why am I negative/anxious/demotivated/etc?" There can be multiple reasons, or maybe there's a primary, straightforward one, e.g. ADHD for many people. There is a danger, though, in getting lost in pursuing "root causes" that are actually just a form of avoiding confronting your life. Basically, it's not always as simple as "just do it", but just doing it has to happen at some point.
