How do I deal with an insecure 14yo girl who has HIV? I'm the homeroom teacher in her class. I need to make her understand that she's normal, and she will live a happy life and future despite her illness. The whole class hasn't found out yet, but I think it's for the best that her case be kept secret as the only ones who knew this are her parents, her family doctors, and me.
>>34911583This is such bullshit. In any western country disclosing hiv/aids status is one of the highest medical crimes out there. They wouldn’t tell the teacher. No reason for the school to know either. In a third world country then everyone has hiv anyway
>>34911589>any western country disclosing hiv/aids status is one of the highest medical crimes out thereWhat are you talking about? Admitting you have a disease is not a “medical crime”. >>34911583That’s not your responsibility. Your role is to make her feel comfortable in class. That’s it. Overstepping that boundary is only likely to hurt her.
Personally, I wouldn’t muddle in her (very) personal business like that. You might make her insecurities and anxiety so much worse just by acknowledging it.If she’s open and initiating conversations about it by herself - that’s a different story. Then I would remind her that HIV isn’t a death sentence anymore and it’s not as highly infectious due to medications the individual with HIV is supposed to take to suppress it. The world is more accepting, and she’s 14. I wouldn’t be surprised that by the time she’s 20, there’s going to be a definite cure. Oh, and don’t treat her like she’s disgusting to you. I know that people do it unconsciously the moment they hear about things like that…
>>34911632Why are you pretending? It’s very obvious you’ve never even met someone with HIV. What a weird troll goal you’ve picked tonight.
>>34911633Anon if someone who has HIV is on medication the virus get so controlled they can even have unprotected sex without spreading it. You should learn more about this thing you’re pretending to be passionate about. Look up U=U.
>>34911644Lmao I do not have HIV you freak, I’m married to my high school sweetheart>>34911639You’re ignorant anon read uphttps://www.cdc.gov/global-hiv-tb/php/our-approach/undetectable-untransmittable.html
>>34911587>>34911632That's just wrong. Can you exterminate a crippled person just because they lost a leg?>>34911589I know and I would never disclose their cases to anybody or to anyone I know - and not just about the HIV alone. Although, I simply discovered she had HIV when she accidentally dropped her pill box in the hallway and helped her pick up its contents on the floor. I then told her parents to be careful about those meds as they contain very sensitive information and I also had them buy a more robust pill box that does not open when dropped.>>34911596>>34911629I admit she is not the first kid I talked to who has an HIV. I told her that her case isn't rare and a lot of people have been through like her and lived very happy lives. She asked me if she can still marry with that kind of illness, "yes" I said and told her to hold on to hope as most people will accept her and also I told her that someday vaccines will be available for HIV so don't worry about it and keep on living. I almost forgot to mention that she's in a mental phase already where she's thinking about leaving this world. I'm not letting that happen.
>>34911655You’ve got this dumbass in the thread but HIV is highly treatable these days, 95% of people who have it and are being treated are clean enough to have relationships without transmitting it. It’s a single daily pill for most people. More manageable than diabetes.
>>34911662>>34911667Anon I don’t have HIV nor does my wife. This is a stupid troll. I know you can come up with something better.
>>34911633Treatment is able to reduce viral loads to undetectable levels by modern exams. They are not able to transmit it.You're just ignorant.
>>34911583>How do I deal with an insecure 14yo girl who has HIV?On the whole, don't bring it up. Obviously for you to tell anyone else about this, or even hint at it, would be a serious ethical breach at best, and possibly an actual crime. If she chooses to tell people herself, that's her affair. But assuming she is properly medicated, it's impossible for her to infect anyone else, so there's no reason anyone else needs to know. The medication has side effects, so a certain amount of raised tolerance for her being ill or tired sometimes would be helpful, but don't make a big thing of it. If she wants to talk to you about it, then your attitude should be "Well, obviously that sucks, but all it really means is that you have to take a pill every day, so it's not that big a deal. But if I were you, I wouldn't go around telling people; some people can be very stupid and prejudiced about it." Otherwise treat her just like anyone else.
>>34911596It actually is a crime in the US. It violates HIPAA
>>34911583Is she black
>>34912058>It violates HIPAAThe student telling her teacher she has HIV is not a HIPAA violation. That teacher telling 4chan about it *is* a HIPAA violation.
>>34911583There are many "living with HIV" charities and support groups. Point her toward them.
