Feeling completely exhausted and despondent right now even though there's nothing seriously problematic in my life. I feel as though the only thing holding me back is my mood, and the lack of enthusiasm and motivation that comes with it. I have ambitions of what to do for the sake of my future but then think "what's the point in even trying"; and honestly I have a point considering the way I feel.

My relationships are starting to fail because I feel like such a stick in the mud and can't socialise properly. I feel like I used to be more witty and have a good sense of humour but now it feels impossible, I feel like I've lost part of myself.

I literally just want to be happy - I feel like everything else would fall into place if I could have a more optimistic outlook on life.

My son died on a trip with his kids in India, I had the choice of either accepting responsibility for them or leaving them with the Indian authorities. I chose the latter, that was back in the early 2000s. No idea what happened to them and I regretted it for a while but in my heart I know I made the right decision, I wouldn't have been a good father figure as I'd have resented them for cutting my retirement short. It was for the best. Do as I did and make the right decision and don't look back.

As a man, your best bet is to just nut up and power through it. To be successful you don't have to be cheerful or happy or actively enjoying things, you just have to do your duty. Do not isolate yourself, do not show any signs of weakness, just pretend like nothing is wrong. If you do this long enough you will make it. Talking about your feelings with therapists isn't going to do shit. Medication also doesn't work.

OP I'm going through the same thing right now but it goes in waves. Two years ago I was extremely suicidal but these days I want to keep living because I don't want to throw it all away.
You might end up feeling a bit better in a couple of months. Just keep taking small steps towards your goals. Don't overthink that you wasted days because you'll waste a lot of them. The best thing you can do is keep looking forwards and not think about the past. All that matters is the future.

This anon >>34915378 gives interesting advice but the most important part is that you don't tell your girlfriend/wife or just a girl you're interested in. You can tell your friends, parents or strangers online but do not under any circumstances tell a woman you actually like.
Even if they pretend they like a guy being emotional they are either lying or mistaken about what they want. They are absolutely disgusted by guys who are too emotional. Trust me even if the girl appears to be an extreme progressive she will be revolted by what you tell her.
Keep it to yourself and never under any circumstances open up about it. If she wants you to be more open about your feelings just make up some BS and tell her you're tired from work or something like that.

>what the hell dude your grandkids probably got their organs harvested
They were in the hands of the authorities, not random passersby.

>and you barely bat an eyelid
It was best not just for me but for them as well, I wouldn't have been a good father figure anyway.

Sure I technically don't need to be happy and I can just stoically suffer through life like an automaton doing my duty but I don't want to, I just want to be happy

I always ask myself "to what avail?" Even supposing my goals do work out what then? Will I be as fulfilled as I imagine I will be? Will I be happy?

Also I really hope you're wrong about not telling your girlfriend/wife about your problems.

It's a good point but you said that if everything would fall into place you could be more optimistic. But honestly you're right the best things you can do is just wait it out until you feel slightly better
