So I used to see a therapist, but I turned 26 not too long ago and I got kicked off my parent's insurance. Realistically I could get medicaid or Obama care or whatever it's called and go back. But I'm not so sure I want to. I felt like my therapist never listened to me, it just felt like "ignore all your bad thoughts and keep going forward", like I'd try to talk about my doubts and fears and he'd just shut me down. I mean I understand shutting down negative self talk and all that, but aren't they supposed to try to help you understand why it's happening to begin with? I just felt like I wasn't listened to. Should I go back? Should I go to a different therapist? Or should I not even waste time with this?
>>34954154A lot of people are going to tell you different things but really what no one ever talks about is that “letting go” is not as instantaneous as it sounds. You have to remind yourself that you let it go. Eventually it gets less frequent reminders and years from now you really will have let it go.
I know this sounds insane, but massage therapy is a form of therapy. Having someone do body work and get all that stress out of the body would do a lot of good. At the same time you can talk about anything in that room.
>>34954185It's not so much stress as it is crushing depression and hopelessness.
>>34954154If you do go back, you should go to a different therapist. Gotta find someone that is right for you. Also, you should get on Obamacare. Even if it is just an emergency plan, it is way way better than going into medical debt if you get hit by a car or smth
>>34954208Then definitely, bodywork is great for depression. It's like they beat up all your depression out of your body. It's weird, the amount of endorphin release is pretty wild.
>>34954154>Should I go back?Yes.>Should I go to a different therapist? Also yes.Finding a therapist you are compatible with can take time and effort. You need to keep in mind what you need and how you want to be treated and how to work through it all. e.g. do you want a gentle person or someone more assertive, do you want to just sit and talk at them or work more actively and so on.>>34954185Not insane at all. Just a massage on its own can help mentally as well as physically.
>>34954250I don't know, I don't really like being touched.>>34954258> e.g. do you want a gentle person or someone more assertive, do you want to just sit and talk at them or work more actively and so on.I don't know I just want to feel like I'm being heard. And I feel like part of that is someone actually engaging with what I'm saying and not just redirecting.
>>34954154>I just felt like I wasn't listened to.That's not a problem with therapy, it's a problem with an individual therapist. Separately from that, for God's sake get yourself some health coverage: if you don't have any and you end up seriously ill or injured you will be FUCKED.
>>34954581Nah man I don't get sick. Have you gone to therapy? What was your experience?
>>34954154Fuckin Obama. Don't remind me of him, dickhead.
>>34954154Get a different one. Out of 4 I ever saw there were only one that was really good, two that were terrible and I left and the first one was a woman I should have asked out instead.
