Give it to me straight, /adv/. What careers are gonna be in demand in 5 years?Don't give me wageslave bullshit like nurse, doctor, handyman. If someone had to choose today, what should they study? And don't give me fad bullshit like Prompt engineer, webdev, AI designer etc. What are the people making bank gonna be?I suppose Scammer as in Lawyer, Accountant, Marketer will keep taking advantage of the perpetual growth of capitalism and get limited by field saturation only. I guess Electrical Engineer will always have a job as long as people have money as well. What else? Small parts manufacture and robotics servicing?
I could say cameraman, but the issue with that is the competition is vast and ominious.
Also, I think within 10 years medicine will start getting reforms of one or other sort to break up training and specialization. The shit is completely unwieldy with how much knowledge there is, most of it that ends up being trivia shit on some genetic disease found only in 2 out of 100,000 jews, Once AI decentralizes in some form, they're gonna have to offload some of the minutia on it, otherwise training will just keep lengthening and lengthening, and students will kill themselves more often. Because of that I don't think medicine will keep its current prestige.
>>34956500Cameraman in what sense?Stuff like cameraman also relies a big fucking lot on purchasing the hardware. Cameramen and video editors have also lost market because AI can shit out slop, and people watching the news or waiting to skip an ad can't be assed to notice whether it's AI or manmade.
I'm gonna add chemical engineer to the pile.Shit man, How come only Engineering and Finance seem to have future in this god forsaken world?
Who cares what is in demand, find something you don't mind doing regardless of ai boogeyman
>>34956529>you don't mind doingGotta break that down. Because I seriously can't be assed to hold ANY job right now. I am burned out and I got left with perfectionism and anxiety. I need to feel like my work actually matters, maybe not in the sense of matters for people's lives, but in the sense of it gives me more than others take from me.For example, what good is medicine if I have to spend 80 hour weeks and every two weeks some Hot Potato patient comes that could lead you to jail for foregoing some detail in the book or in his history? I'm sick of that landmine shit. I want to live and not just work, and I want to interact with a team if possible.
>>34956556Also, I'm looking for the market because, back when I had to choose, my dad was the family's paragon, he was a doctor so everyone was aiming for doctor, everyone else in the family was a public servant of some sort. I never had the chance to have a look at how the world worked. The world works with money on the line, with investments, with new shit where there used to be hills, with people being told what they're allowed and not allowed to do, with people consuming and reproducing. In such a beehive of a world, how am I supposed to believe helping one single bee matters? And I don't want to be one that has the weight of the impossible on his shoulders anymore.
>>34956556Break down a role in simplistic tasks and identify which actions you are okay performing for money to a client. In your hypothetical example not every role in medicine has to interface with the client-facing aspect like that, the patient is the client. If this is a concern ask why you want to do that role in the first place. I had this same problem in wanting to contribute a bit in something to a team, it is an illusion to chase that your work actually matters, if you and that job was suddenly removed from the world it just makes space for someone or something else, so that is why I say list out the tasks you don't mind doing, and if it can be enjoyable even better.
>>34956581Bruh, from medicine the only thing I can do is translate a complicated text for dumb people. The big problem is, in that field you're not trained to do anything else. I don't have many tasks to think of because I have never done them. Where I live they don't teach you to analyze shit with calculus, setup a health establishment, do your taxes, manage people, build solutions, write for others, sell shit. All you do is pattern recognition and recall. It's as if an artisan guild was bought by some corpo and turned into a sweatshop.
>>34956647Well that is the problem with academia funneling into business, you drop off at bachelor or masters to be employable by an existing entity, some people go all the way to doctorate and then are stumped in how to make money from their dedicated studies, which profitable service is pattern recognition and recall to apply to problem had unfortunately, and isn't unique to medicine most jobs is having a whack at the problem. Do you currently have a medical related degree or still looking for a prospective path?
>>34956679i graduated medicine, worked as a resident in a program that didn't teach shit, I lagged behind and dropped out. I'm tentatively looking for kinesiology masters to 1. pretend I'm a scientist, 2. Narrow down on focus without doing residency. I have no idea what those guys work as, I visited a physiotherapist once and they have the most chill job in the world. A part of me wants to be praised by patients, back then I didn't have the time to appreciate whether I was making a difference, and the thought crosses me that If I become some kind of personal trainer people will look up to me somewhat.Everyone tells me that I should become a drug sales rep. I read a book once that mentioned medical communications but I have no idea what they do, kinda like marketing or journalism, but I don't think my country has any company in that business. I don't know how to self employ to start seeing clients freelance if I aim towards that.
>>34956709Masters is likely non-negotiable, no one hires medical science degree holders unless it is menial lab work as you said. Drug sales rep sounds like a bridging position between manufacturers and pushers, likely you can't start this freelance without a contact list built up, also sounds soulless if you care for that, but everyone wins when everyone makes money. If you are after the appreciation aspect, physio works, those are franchised a lot in small teams too, operations are the same as commercial gyms, but get medical backing usually so general practitioners will send them in, maybe you can at least have a pathway goal of running one of these one day?
>>34956490You will be on Universal Basic Income. The people on welfare will be fast tracked onto UBI everyone still working will be made increasingly redundant. Careers are already over for the majority of people. Most people just move from crap job to crap job now. In 10 years time AI and automated robots controlled by AI will be doing 30% of jobs. In 20 years it'll be 50%In Western economies where the majority of careers are desk jobs it'll be felt even harder. If you haven't bought a house already or started a career I wouldn't even bother. Because by the time you reach a point in your life where you can ascend some kind of career ladder, the AI will just take your job. No matter how much better you are at a task, a computer that works 24/7 for basically pennies an hour is the more financially viable choice. My genuine advice is to get on welfare and monetize a hobby if you can, so you can supplement the welfare with some more income. The welfare sponges will get first priority on UBI because the governments will want to say >Look! UBI isn't killing jobs, it's taking people off unemployment benefits!
>>34956740Look it is advice from 8 years ago, I was on welfare and I monetized my hobby now I have a job from it because UBI is taking too long to kick in, we will sooner have another source of body tenderizers than useless eaters on UBI.
>>34956730Running one? I wonder, actually that sounds more appropriate for someone who jumped careers. I could live with that. They're niche, legitimately helpful, specialized, have a large business side to it. I can look forward to that, thanks anon, all this time the only thing I was missing was to envision myself at the goal rather than being another demoralized drone.
>>34956745In one sense the giant welfare state and prison system is already a kind of UBI. Some people live their entire lives without working. The UBI would make it official. What's the alternative? Let the masses starve so they resort to crime? Degrading the country into a broken society full of violence, prostitution, thievery, murder and gangs? Then you move them all into the prison system and you're paying UBI anyway...often it's far more expensive to keep them in prison than it is to just keep them on welfare. Welfare is given with the intent that the person receiving it MUST be seeking employment, but there's already a job shortage. The automation isn't going to make that any better. I think it's pretty obvious that instead of condemning the useless eaters to the more expensive prison system they'll just take the path of least resistance.Unless things go full totalitarian communist/fascist, then you're correct and death squad will be a viable career option.
>>34956490Honest answer: any Liberal Arts subject - English, History, Philosophy, etc.The future belongs to the adaptable, not the specialists. Study CS (just as an example) and you can walk into a good CS job - IF there are any CS job. Have a general background and the supposedly "useless" skills like researching, writing, group projects and independent working, and you can legitimately apply for any non-tech job (and probably have the non-nerdy social skills to fit in and move up).
It's a shit answer because the pay is crap, the societal respect is crap, the stress is crap, and the work hours are crap, but if you are a humanities person, there will always be a need for teachers. The system is collapsing because of both devices and forcing morons/special-ed into mainstream classrooms, so the quality of education is falling rapidly. But the pandemic really showed that people and society are completely incapable of taking care of their kids or spending any time with their sex mistakes. Even if most things are outsourced to AI (unlikely for education), a warm body is necessary to take care of the kids who aren't potty trained and to throw themselves in front of school shooters. I am hopeful some kind of reckoning will happen over the next decade, before tech gets complete control of zombified Gen Alpha and their votes. It might actually become a dignified profession when people realize how utterly low the US public education system has stooped, and that society needs some place to put empathetic people who will cause stress for upper management of big corps with their constant whistle-blowing.
>>34956490I would think a hitman will always be in demand
>>34956514>FinanceAI is massive in finance.Real answer for AI-proof is electrician, doctor, oil rigger, plumber, construction. Anything that has limited actual computer use.
>>34956962It won't get better because teacher is a regulated profession in the first place thanks to pedo scare. People willing to put the work, who can't get a foothold on their careers, see going highschool as the worst kind of failure, like literally going nowhere from there. Remember the Hail May movie? Same thing. But I guess I should try teaching english or something just to learn to work a room.
>>34956974you are ignorantyes finance at entry level is just excel manually typing stuff into exceland of course these jobs are all going mgtow soon (and most of them gone already)but the real money in finance is made in positions where you don’t even look at numbers to begin withthat being said the most important trait to have in finance is preferably being a nepobaby
>>34956490>What's 2+2?>And don't tell me some bullshit like 4, give me a real answer
>>34956490case working and car management. the mental health crisis is exploding. children need it more than anyone else and it's paying a solid bag starting. ai is a low threat, however, you should learn how to use it and make it a tool to future proof your position. it's not going to replace you, but companies are going to demand it supplementing the workload in various ways. major in social work, minor in fields like psychology and family/human development. If you want to earn the highest amount, perhaps a clinic you own, operate and hire staff for would be incredibly lucrative and sustainable. but that's possibly hyper idealistic.... merely not impossible.
>>34956490Pathology. There will always be demand for this profession.
I hate to lay the shit on you but medical and firefighting may be the only stable careers that always need bodies and actually care about their workers enough to pay them above the waterline. You could join the military to get slimed though that could be funny. unless you have passion for engineering i wouldn't pursue it, all the non passionate goobers who are book smart are getting slapped by ai rn.>> the better question you should be asking is what do you want to do with your life, not how much you want to make or how stable you wanna be. >>Stable people can be bitter too
>>34956510This. Cameramen make shit money outside of news studios where you’re literally just pressing record on a preset rig and the news is absolutely fucking dying because they all put out propaganda slop and forensic photographers taking photos of suicides all week which has to be the most depressing job on the planet. Photography is the most oversaturated media/art and just about everyone with any interest in actually making money off of it is resigned to school, graduation, family, baby, and wedding photos. Wedding productions have the highest margins but are the shittiest to deal with. No bridezilla you don’t look fat in my photos because I suck at photography. You look fat in my photos because you’re 200 lbs. You can still go out and nightcrawl for B roll and try to sell it to news stations but the earnings are shit. You would unironically make more setting up a porn studio if you don’t mind being sleazy anyway and even that’s being replaced by OF models and cam girls with an iPhone.
>>34956974I am in finance. At the end of the day it pays well, it’s really just sales, and it’s protected by licensure and regulation. Yes robo-advisors are a thing but jobs are predicted to grow as a result not decrease. Making the sale is what they need you for. Rebalancing a portfolio is what the AI will be doing.
>>34956490>small parts manufacturethat's kind of what I'm leaning towards. If you could somehow setup some sort of mostly automatic process you pretty much have a money printer as long as you can deal with the marketing/selling shit
>>34957160Lel, pathology was my favorite subject back in school, I just didn't choose it because I didn't want to be inhaling fumes and fiddling with dead children guts and literally depending on the hospital all day.Looking back, choosing it would have set my life course, but I believe somehow it's a bad end of sorts for me.
>>34957148But it's true, matter of fact is that the best rewarded jobs are people skills, and those will forever be untouched by AI. However the more regulated a people skills job, the less rewarding it seems to become. Pink collar and blue collar are gonna spend your body and you shouldn't look for that unless you're literally retarded and desperate, while only intellectual work and tech technicians have taken the big L thanks to AI.
>>34956490>WageslaveHaving a nigger mentality is a ngmi flagSherry is where you don't get paid or get to choose to work there Stop being a nigger first
if europe:operating crematoriumsoperating heavy machineryoperating on (a)live peoplecourier/driver for frontline ressources/information/food and ammoif americas:UBI>>34956740ubi will be tied to mandatory spaying of your ovaries/balls and or vaccination and or other rather uncomfortable things, so i wouldnt count on that except your a peak blebbitor that hates its life with a passion
>>34956490you bitchin, but basically every kind of nurse and medical tech is in super demand, including laboratory ones that just run tests and take pictures, and will need more of them.webdev is also in demand as people still need to figure out out AI is going to affect webdesign for at least a few more years.yes people always need good accountants, almost nobody wants to watch the money, they only want it to be there when they spend it.>If someone had to choose today, what should they study?best to start with something you find interesting at least, so it could sustain you through the bullshit that al jobs have.
>>34956490You could always go HVAC and work at AI data centers.Them shits are going to be popping up all over, and you'll probably be on the ground floor before it gets too saturated. Plus everyone likes air conditioning.

SalesAI might drive a lot of the decision making, but people, especially in B2B, still want a human touch point. The main issue is because of AI, companies might stack more companies on you, because of "AI efficiencies".
>>34962853How come businesses haven't all consolidated by this point?
>>34956490the more Biblical the better so for example they say lawyer because the Bible says law a lot
