how do people cope with a 9 to 5 being their "forever"? i've had one only a year now at some morally bankrupt security firm in an office position and i genuinely have never felt more like i don't matter.
why bother living out the 40 years or so i've got left? what, i earn money to get to keep doing this? i'm too pussy to ever kill myself so i guess i'll just keep bellyaching about noticing the cycle. i go into work, do my best, nobody appreciates it, ai drove my manager insane and he asks for absurd amounts because he doesn't care how it impacts our team's schedules, i feel like the negative sims interaction appears above my head after every attempt to reach out to my colleagues. i feel like most days im on a rollercoaster between so numb i can't cry paralyzed in my bed and feeling barely good enough to walk around and show myself to anyone around me.
i just don't know how to cope that this is what "the best it gets" looks like, that people live like this and don't feel a twinge like it'd be a relief to have something come along and end it all without me knowing nor it hurting.
i used to be someone's baby boy, we all did. what's the world coming to?

>how do people cope with a 9 to 5 being their "forever"?
We don't, or at least I dont. Every day I sink deeper into depression

Probably 9-5 wouldnt even be that bad if I just had some friends to do stuff with. Too bad all my friends moved to different states years ago, and I haven't really met anyone new who I "click" with
>>
>>34958002
yeah i've not had any friends in years. mostly due to myself, to be quite honest. i wasn't this miserable back when i had them but i did take them for granted and now i've not got anybody but my family, and thank god i have them because i don't know what the fuck happens when i have these feelings and absolutely nobody who i don't have to pay to listen to me.
i never want to hurt them, ever, but my pain just being around so they're not hurt anymore can be overwhelming sometimes.
>>
>>34957977
Take a vacation.
>>
>>34957977
Find a job you like to do and you won't work a day. I know it's easier said then done. I honestly look forward to work we have a blast.
>>
>>34957977
Lose my shit at some point past 3 months in and quit then coast off my savings until I HAVE to find a new one.
I don't recommend this method.
>>
>>34958013
actually got one coming up in a few weeks. the last one was a relief for its duration, but that first week back after it was fucking rough. it'll certainly cool my misery for the time being but it's not an answer, i've been feeling this way for months. i've been in therapy for 2 months because my family grew concerned for me, and its helped in some ways i.e. i don't self deprecate the way i used to, but it hasn't helped resolve these questions of futility and hopelessness circling my mind. there's the concept of a 5 minute rule for me to take a brain break but i feel compelled in my off time to maximize what hedonism looks like to me because the 9 to 5 has sucked the rest of my life out of me. i try, but i get distracted a lot from this trick.
>>
>>34958022
i've been close to breaking point multiple times with my manager throughout this year. he talks to me like dirt and only asks for more and more outlandish ai dreamed ideas because it's not him who actually has to fulfill the promise. everyone in this office environment is so pathetic and opportunistic, just looking for the next chance to gossip on their fellow man or make a stepladder of their struggling body. it's a sickening culture and i feel filthy just being around them, assimilating to their world. i may not see eye to eye with them but i wouldn't use them the way i am used.
>>
>>34957977
My cope was to say it doesn't matter what I do at the job as long as I do what I am supposed to do and it isn't unsafe or illegal. I get paid for my time there. Work stays at work and when I'm off I do what I want. It sounds like you don't have enough of doing what you want after work. You can also bring things to work to do on break. I would read or play on my phone during breaks, sometimes set a 25 minute alarm and nap during lunch having crammed a sandwich in on the way out to my car.

>>34958022
I wouldn't coast until you HAVE to find a new one, but you could absolutely quit and start looking for a new one after a week or two. Or even start looking now and don't quit. Just feeling like you have an option is sometimes enough to help. You do not want to get into desperate funds territory where you get stuck taking the first thing that will hire you.
>>
>>34958041
When you have another job option and you don't NEED this job anymore, you become able to start not taking crap from anyone. You can tell your manager professionally why the things he is asking for do not work. If he is unprofessional you can be unprofessional right back, and if you get fired, so what? I do recommend quitting before it gets to that point but being able to tell them off without going completely postal is good. (Or do and then say the AI told you to do it, even better if you can actually get the AI to tell you to do it.)
>>
>>34958131
>I wouldn't coast until you HAVE to
I repeatedly tell myself I can stick it out longer than I actually can and then it blows up on me, and attempting to get a new job while I'm still coming down from the last one would just make the process of quitting and finding a new one go even faster.
I have like zero qualifications and no car I am pretty much stuck taking the first thing that will hire me regardless, maybe I could hold out for the third. There are only so many things within walking distance and the bus route isn't a reliable mode of transportation past 5 pm in town.
>>34958041
Yeah I for sure would have had a breakdown and left already. If there's any danger of me losing it and quitting while crying and yelling I need to leave before it gets close to that. The worst one was when I worked in a deli and having to watch all the food safety violations happening around me CONSTANTLY I am disgusted and paranoid now.

NEET here with enough money to stay a NEET.

I'm trying to get a job. I've never felt more useless and pathetic in my life than being an unemployed loser. And here you guys are saying how much you hate being employed.

Funny how it works, huh?
>>
>>34958189
People like you will ruin abundance. People will have everything they need, but they will still scream "GIVE ME A FUNCTION" just because they want everyone to pretend they're important and useful.
>>
>>34958189
Get a hobby that requires developing a skill and be grateful for the freedom weirdo
>>
>>34958189
op here. i was a neet for 2 years after i lost the job i had before my current one. i wouldn't be too jealous of the employed if you have a safety net of some generous kind. employment as an escape is swapping rhe misery of an eternal nothing for the agony of an eternal loop. both land your head in a fuzzy, gourmless, practically drugged state despite being sober. in some ways i'd give anything to go back to unemployment but i owe it to my loved ones to fight that to the bitter end.
>>
>>34957977
Alcohol and lots of it. I always go to the bar before I go home.
>>
>>34957977
Normally people get used to the monotony of work in highschool but I guess neuroatypicals never do.
>ai drove my manager insane.
Managers have always been insane.
>I boss people around all day despite not understanding what they do or how they do it, and this and constantly spouting nonsensical jargon is fulfilling to me.
They are literally insane retarded narcissistic egomaniacs. Ai did not make them this way, it just acts as a yes man that deludes them further.

The solution is to job hop until you end up where you want to be or die. Whichever comes first.
>>
>>34958215
i admit i wish i liked drinking, but i have the palette of a child, soft drinks and seltzer water are mostly what i have. what would you recommend as an ale foe me to get into to transition into something that can ease my pain? my fave alcohol if you cn even call it that was hard raspberry cider. not exactly a party animal, i'm aware.
>>
>>34957977
Take a vacation and if that doesn't work out, quit, get some months off and look for a new job.

Don't stay as a NEET for longer than 6 months, it will eat you.
>>
>>34957977
can't post my own thread but this one is similar ro what i had in mind so here it goes.

i'm the only one of my friends with a full time job and it kind of sucks. i recently graduated college and got a job closely related to my major and am pursuing grad school full time. i like the specifics of what i do, probably the profession most suited to me, but goddamn the whole adult work routine is soul crushing. i'm in there day in, day out and between work and grad school so much of my time is occupied.

my friends are all my age or even older and none of them have full time jobs. they all work retail, they didn't go to college like i did, and they're not looking to start careers at all really. and because of this they have so much more free time than i do. they're way more invested in their hobbies, are less stressed, one even has been NEETing around for a bit and gets shitfaced all the time with his friends during the week in the city we live in.

i just feel so jealous of them. i may have more money and maybe more life direction, but what's the point if i don't have the same level of freedom? am i right to feel this way, or should i realize that my friends are a bit rudderless?
>>
>>34957977
>what, i earn money to get to keep doing this?
You earn money to do all the stuff you do outside work.

Had you considered looking for another job?
>>
>>34958241
i was unemployed for 2 years, hundreds of applications, dozens of interviews, im clinging to my current job out of pure fear of the haze in which i was trapped and i have thanked god multiple times i got literally anything, which makes it especily sick that i feel so pained to hold onto it. so as for looking for another job, it'd take losing this one to put my head back in that spot. my actual biggest loser trait is that i've tried for years to learn to drive, 3 different instructors, but i just can't cope with the pressure of driving a big killing machine and i hate the power i feel under my hands as i drive. i want to help people, not hurt them.

anyway as for my money, i just use it to pay rent. all the things i super enjoy are creative and require zero dollars to get going with. i donate weekly to charity because i just want the money to make someone happy if not me.
>>
>>34958014
Not OP but I have a 9-5 doing programming. I love programming, but it's too much. I do not need to be there 8 hours a day to do my best work, in fact it's a detriment. I typically work my ass off, but with a strict 9-5 I have to pace myself. I have lots of hobbies and side projects and no time or energy to work on them. For these reasons a strict 9-5 can be soul crushing even if you like the work.
>>
>>34958229
I don't drink alcohol but I like drinking virgin champagne, so I would recommend starting with extra dry prosecco.

I think it depends on what you want out of life.
I inherited a ton of money, a nice house and a car and I'm not fulfilled. I don't want to rot away in my bedroom playing games all day until I'm too old to pursue anything else in life anymore. No one respects an unemployed fucking loser even if they know he is sitting on money. Family, friends and worse of all, women. I'm living proof of that.

Being a NEET for long will also destroy your discipline, willpower and drive to pursue anything worthwhile in life like starting your own family, a respectable career or a skill that'll earn you money and admiration, because things like that take time and commitment.

If you don't care about any of this stuff, then maybe you won't care, but then again maybe you would realize after being a NEET for a long time, the same thing I realized, that playing videogames or browsing forums all day in the comfort of your house forever is not truly being alive.
>>
>>34958257
>not fulfilled
And you never will be if the only thing you can think of to do about that is get a job.
>>
>>34958251
On the first day I learned how to drive, my dad took me to an unused parking lot and I practiced parking. Once I had done that for about an hour he made me drive back home and it was rush hour so there was a lot of traffic. I don't think there was a moment in my life where I was more freaked out than that.
Never really felt scared of driving afterwards. Though I was still a bit nervous until I got used to it.
>i hate the power i feel under my hands as i drive.
I have never heard of a character trait where someone is afraid of power.
It took me a few times to get my drivers license but only because my father booked appointments hella early in the morning and I never got enough sleep and I couldn't focus properly.
>donating to charity.
Most of that money doesn't go anywhere productive, I would seriously suggest against it unless you know exactly what that charity spends it on.
>>
>>34958289
my driving situation might be hopeless. each of those instructors was a years worth of time and money, im not sinking invesment into a 4th, not until im much wealthier if i ever am anyway. combined j defibitely have over 100 pure instructor hours in a car but god damn me every lesson for hours prior i was short of breath and on the verge of nausea because i just didn't like driving the car. i felt at a moment's notice i could end a life and that's why i hated the power. even if i got through, i haven't a life worth living to invest in a car to go anywhere.

that said, the charity situation i'd like to assess, i don't want it going to dead ends, but i do want to give.
>>
>>34958251
>i just can't cope with the pressure of driving a big killing machine and i hate the power i feel under my hands as i drive. i want to help people, not hurt them.
What a weird way of thinking. I'm an autist and I like driving and even if I'm an anxious wreck I've never had issues while driving and I've never heard anyone saying anything along these lines.

You're driving a shitbox at less than speed limit to the grocery store, not piloting a transatlantic airliner through a storm nigga. Relax.
>>
>>34958255
>Not OP but I have a 9-5 doing programming. I love programming
How do I get into programming? I thought AI was gonna kill all of these jobs
>>
>>34958354
i just can't see it that way i suppose. the moment it gets moving i want it to stop and especially since i took and flunked driving lessons i have to grit my teeth and pretend im mot freaking out when someone else drives onto a freeway since all i can see is the sheer amount of trust that will be required that someone isn't going to turn me into strawberry jam or the other way around. i didn't honedtly expect the driving part of stuff i've said tonight to stick out but yes i do find it absolutely nauseating to control a car even if i can go 60 and control it without issue.
>>
>>34958354
>Relax
I don't think telling someone to "relax" or "chill out" has ever worked
>>34958358
>How do I get into programming?
Get 3-5 years of programming experience.
>>34958379
It sounds like you are having trouble reconciling with your impulses.
As an exercise, can you try standing near a cliff or something and come to terms with the fact you will think about jumping off despite not wanting to.
>>
>>34957977
Why would you ever want to matter hahahahahaha
>>
>>34958189
Different NEET here. I saved a $100k and spent all of it on chilling at home for multiple years. Best years of my life. Wish I could continue this forever but my money is running out.
>>
>>34958890
It could have if you went to a third world country and payed like 100$ a month on rent.

Hi, I never got to work but have experienced crazy burnout, depression and hopelessness when it comes to working on art, chores, electronics, terminally ill or just pain in the ass pets and other things. It helps to do things in a different way or pace, take a break and sticking to a better diet with sunlight. Other adults I've known and been related to cope by being functional addicts. The younger people are sometimes carried by other obsessions and motivations too like living for fandoms and friends. I hope you find something or find peace another way.

What that anon is saying about charities is true and really understated. I can testify to it as a physically disabled person, and others I've spoken to have similar stories. I have reached out to so many charities, almost none will help me even with free information and guidance, or send me elsewhere to ask for assistance. Some did "try" but their sources or info was just irrelevant. Sometimes they have the gal to tell me that they don't know/do anything that I'm asking for when its on their fucking sites and they're collecting money on it!!! Oh you only give money to other charities and causes? You sure don't promote your campaigns and funding requests that way and have no problem duping celebrities for cash.

My mom and I have reached out to so many. Probably at least 40. Asking to either help us get or give us advice on energy weatherization, medicaid, food, section 8, victim compensation. They don't even move their ass to give you a free talk therapist like they advertise!!! I had to find one on 4chan! Motherfucking 4chan!!

We even went to some stupid in person event for disabled people a few months ago where they spoke on stage and all, promoting causes and aid. I asked them about what they do, they said call this number. The woman who answered said we don't do *any* of that, who told you that, why and how did you get my number?

Idk about other countries but this is how it is in the old USA.

Please consider dropping an email if you would like to think about giving elsewhere... Your story about driving has stuck out to me. When I was a teenager, I was forced to take drivers lessons at a school. I was terrified for all the reasons you said and more. I had lost my first dog to a car and never wanted to ever possibly effect or endanger people or animals. I will always regret not fighting back harder and not being able to get out of being forced to go.

My drivers ed instructor was a satanic idiot woman, possibly drunk and definitely mentally fucked. She caused an accident during that lesson and permanently disabled me. I have very bad chronic pain and am going into my 10th year. I cannot even take care of myself, do nessecary things daily like bathing or sleep well at all. Nothing from a nice adult life is in the cards for me anymore. I have deteriorated a lot. I'm not even 30 but have lost a majority of my hair. My mom has heaps more hair.

The school admins and my instuctor covered it up, submitted a lot of fraudulent evidence in court and it seems like they could have bribed or threatened my lawyer. I lost in court. Part of it because my worthless lawyer and the jury not putting together that her actions broke at least 4 negligence laws and that she admitted to breaking 3, but my lawyer failed to recite the law. A no negligence verdict shouldnt have been possible.

I can prove all of this with many years of records.

If you continue the lessons, only go somewhere where there is dashcams in and out of the car. That would've made my case. If I'm ever not drowning one day, I want to try to make that a new requirement by law to protect other people. Don't think you are invincible... I was a healthy normal kid when I went in there. Now my grandma has better range of motion and functionality than me. I probably would've rather been sent to war for 2 years instead. I wasn't built for painful permanent body wide injury and chronic fatigue.
