I feel like I am on autopilot a lot of the time day to day and I want to break out of it. For context I work 12 hours a day with 80% of it on my phone and I am Sertraline. I have been on Sertraline for almost 2 years as I originally had a seriously bad psychedelic trip on mushrooms which gave me insomnia and panic attacks for a few months afterwards. I also experienced for the first time true disassociation which was terrifying.

I sleep well enough now and I don't get episodes, nor the intense feeling of disassociation. But there are times where it's like clouds in my mind part away and I become hyper aware and present of the current moment. It's few and far between and I become numb again, which I think is "autopilot", but I want to be present constantly. I have heard sertraline can create a powerful sense of being autopilot so I have lowered my dose of 100mg down to 75mg for about 2 weeks to prepare to go down to 50mg to see how I feel then.

Am I on the right track here? Or is what I am describing shit everyone deals with but I am just more aware of it since I experiened what true disassociation feels like?

I think that's normal OP, pretty much the same situation as you work-wise 12 hour shifts nothing to do 99% of the time. It's just how the mind copes try looking for a different job if you can or maybe bring a book to work

and I've never been medicated in any way close to yours nor have I had any mental issues or episodes most work days I barely remember anything that happened or that I even was at work

Thanks anon. I do think it is probably just me being far more aware and considerate of my own reality after losing touch with it for some time

I think you are. Had similar experience on sertraline and other meds + drugs at different times, just wanted clarity and to feel what my baseline was.
Quitting them and also reducing screen time helped massively. If you can, switch to a PC/laptop.

For me it was the same, lost the real me in substance abuse and meds. You are definitely more aware once you lose that awareness and then regain it again.

Welp, what the hell do I do?

It's certainly worth trying coming off the Sertraline slowly to see what happens. If you feel better, great; if you don't, you can go back on it again. I'd give it 4 weeks between dose levels rather than two, though, and be alert to the possibility that a lower dose might be a better compromise than nothing at all. (Or it might not; you won't find it out till you try).

Try the Sertraline for two months and see how it goes. If you decide you felt better before, then stop. SSRIs are actually more effective against anxiety than they are against depression, it's definitely worth a try.

You might not need a lot. 25mg to 50mg provide a mild effect and don't fully act on all of your serotonin receptors. When you dose between 75mg and 100mg that's when all of your receptors are effected, but the emotional dulling I think OP is talking about only comes full force when you have been on them for years. Depending on how you got anxiety it might just be a short term thing anyway.

25mg is what he prescribed me. My depression isn't severe but my anxiety has basically made it impossible for me to do anything in life.

Are there any side effects? I don't want to turn bald or sexually impotent, even if it's been ages since the last time I saw a pussy that wasn't on my computer screen.

Dreams will be the big one but I don't know if it will much of a thing at a dose that low. Shit will be more vivid than what you will be used to. You won't go bald and you will be errect just fine. 100+ increases the likelihood for premature ejaculation, but that's all it is, a likelihood. It happens when you're already nearing the top of climax but you can actually supress it from happening by stop thrusting, giving it a few moments, then go back to pounding to climax. It's something you can actually anticipate once you know what it feels like to go through with it with your dick. But again that's if your dose is even high enough to impact sex drive like that

>Are there any side effects?
I assume you read the leaflet when you are given a new medication? That will answer that question. But, as with almost any drug, the side effects vary from person to person, so it's impossible to predict which ones might affect you. That's quite a low dose, so possibly none of them. All you can do is try it for a bit and see how it goes. If you find the benefits outweigh the side effects, great; if they don't, stop taking it.
